Description: This is a time for American heroes!....

The best scene of the whole season is when the President is speaking about the bombing, it is so well written and with Tori Amos' version if 'I don't like Monday's' never fails to give me shivers down my spine!

BARTLET
...restoring abundance amid an economic shortfall, securing peace in a time of global conflict, sustaining hope in this winter of anxiety and fear. More than any time in recent history, America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

44 people were killed a couple of hours ago at Kennison State University. Three swimmers from the men's team were killed and two others are in critical condition. When, after having heard the explosion from their practice facility, they ran into the fire to help get people out. Ran into the fire. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our students and our teachers and our parents and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels, but every time we think we have measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless. this is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes and we reach for the stars. God bless
their memory, God bless you and God bless the United State of America. Thank you.

I was never into the WW when it was on the tv in the UK. My missus was a fan and watched it religiously. I bought seasons 1-2 at the start of January [going cheap] thought i'd watch them and that was it, hooked. Halfway through series 1 I ordered Series 3 and 4 on DVD. Outcome is I watched all 4 series in one month. Few late nights and long weekends. It got so addictive my job really started to suffer. Compelling viewing all round.

Anyway that speech which you are talking about was a favourite moment of mine, my missus was crying.

Cant wait till Series 5 comes out over here as I missed that as well!! The rest of British TV is pants compared to the West Wing.

At this point I think maybe you should hide the DVDs fom yourself.

One of the best parts of the speach and indicative of Sorkin's writing style is how he could string the drama and the humor together. For example at the end of the speach when Bruno and Sam are talking:

Bruno: When did you right that last part?
Sam: in the car, on the way over.
Bruno: Freak (in the great Bruno Ginilli voice)

I loved this episode. Here Bartlet is exactly what a true leader should be - inspiring. The speech is brilliant, from the added emphasis on 'running back into the far' to its conclusion, and obviously proves that Sam is indeed a 'freak'.
