Description: best characteristics

so what is the best thing about Jed, his best trait?
I think it's his morality and his abstract and bizzare sense of humour

I quite enjoy his sense of humour its slightly twisted but in an innocent way... like the time in season one where he kep talking aout the fjords to CJ or the time with josh and the National Parks... lol
Makes me laugh. ;)

Yeah Bartlet has the best sense of humor around... He is quite possibly the best president the USA never had!

I was watching the season 4, 'game on' and I think one of Bartlett's best characteristics is the incredible writing in the show, I love the speech when he is facing Richie and he says the following:
QUOTE
There are times when we're fifty states and there are times when we're one country, and have national needs. And the way I know this is that Florida didn't fight Germany in World War II or establish civil rights. You think states should do the governing wall-to-wall. That's a perfectly valid opinion. But your state of Florida got $12.6 billion in federal money last year-- from Nebraskans, and Virginians, and New Yorkers, and Alaskans, with their Eskimo poetry. 12.6 out of a state budget of $50 billion, and I'm supposed to be using this time for a question, so here it is: Can we have it back, please?

That's good writing, although still prefer the 20 hours in America speech, 'this is a time for American heros and we reach for the stars'

Yes but is this writting really a characteristic of Jed Bartlet or the writter? ;)
ama - February 3, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
yeah, because if it wasn't for the great writing then he wouldn't be such a good character, without that it wouldn't be anywhere near as good.

I think Sheen could hold his on if he had to, don't you?

The script writers do a great job, but without the strength and depth of the actors to carry it throgh the scrips would not have such an impact.
Sheen does a great job, and makes such a believable President.
Reminds me of Bush so much (oops British sarcastic humour slipping in)
:)

He does do a good job even surpassing the writters.
I wonder if he'd ever want the job for real? I'd vote for him.

Saw an interview with Sheen and he said he couldn't think of anything worse than going into politics as he has friends in politics and he sees the stress they are under. Real shame though as everytime I watch The West Wing I cant help think what a perfect President, or head of state of any country, he would make! I'm sure life is a little tougher in the real West Wing anyhow?
Locutus - February 8, 2005 12:49 PM (GMT)
I saw that too, but he might change his mind... I think we should all host a massive write-in vote in four years! And yeah I'm REALLY sure it's harder in real life as I've said many times here. How do Bush and Chaney do it!?

Do you think it's a coincidence that the actor who plays president Bartlet also has the initials "MS"?
Granted, it's not his birth name, but still...

I saw an interview in time out magazine that said that the green party in the last election put Bartlets name on the ballot and they got 7% of the vote - the best the green party has ever done in an election in the us.

Nobody's arguing that Martin Sheen is a great actor, and nobody else could embody Jed Barlet like he does. Having said that, he is also prone to the occasional case of overacting, like these examples:
QUOTE
They were huge contributors! How the hell am I supposed... They were huge contributors!
I always cringe whenever I see that scene. And the following discussion about how the businessman does not want any help from the White House despite having helped the Democratic party financially might exist in the utopian world, but not here, sadly. It's a very nice dream, but not at all realistic.
QUOTE
Oh, for crying out loud, Tom. I open my mouth and say, “Somebody get me the Pope.”
Now, he may be the President of the United States of America now, the most powerful man on earth. But certainly Bartlet still has a sense of decency and respect in him to call his priest "Father" instead of "Tom"? And why does he have to get so annoyed at a normal question like that. After all, it's very justified. How many percent of people have called the Pope (as the priest later pointed out too).
