This is the BEST Charlie quote. It comes from the third season.
| QUOTE |
Ambassador Ken Cochran: I want to speak to your supervisor. Charlie Young: My supervisor? Well, I'm personal aide to the President, so right now my supervisor is kinda busy looking for a back door to throw you out of. But I'll let him know. |

I love Charlie, it's always a shame his character has never really been developed!

| QUOTE |
CHARLIE Good morning, Mr. President. It’s Charlie. I hope...
BARTLET What could you possibly want right now?
CHARLIE Sir, it’s 6:30 a.m. and...
BARTLET In the morning?
CHARLIE Yes sir. And I wanted to remind you that...
BARTLET I mean, what in the name of everything holy could you want right now?
CHARLIE I wanted to remind you that you have a 7:00 a.m. at the Oval Office with senior staff, followed by your security and intelligence briefings, and a meeting with the Chairman of the Fed. Would you like me to have the stewards bring you some coffee and the Washington Post?
BARTLET Who the hell is this?
CHARLIE Sir.
BARTLET And what could you possibly want?
CHARLIE Sir. I need you to dig in now. It wasn’t a nightmare. You really are the President.

That is my favourite Bartlett Charlie moment, it's from Celestal Navigation, makes me laugh everytime!

I think Charlie, at least till you get to know him, comes off as a little arrogant... but then so does Bartlet... well he's the President so... Charlie is the BEST!
xShockwavex - January 17, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
to me charlie comes across a bit snobby - i dunno thiers just something about his character although his heart is in the right place hes a tad too arrogant at times... but all in all awesome guy.
Locutus - January 18, 2005 12:29 AM (GMT)
I think that's the whole point with him... he's smart but never had a lot of schooling and he knows it!! hehe.

Charlie is obviously very intelligent. He goes toe-to-toe with Bartlet every day without fear and has earned the president's love and respect. The only thing I have beef with is that his romance with Zoey looks like it was tacked by the writers just to speak about racial issues and religion fundamentalists. It started too suddenly, where she met him in the kitchen while making chili, and I feel there has never been any chemistry between them. I mean if they are going to have an interracial couple then at least explore the story a bit more.

I tend to disagree with their realationship feeling forced. I think it went over well... and about the writters doing it JUST for the issues... hmm... that's the main reason for doing EVERYTHING on the show... For the issue. And as to them following the stoy more... I think they did it well. And as with all stories on the show, what they don't show is left up to your own devices...

I think at one point after the shooting at the end of first season Zoey said to Charlie "We haven't gone on a date for 9 months," and later Charlie apologized to her and they made up again. That made me thought that they were going to appear more often on screen. But nope, Charlie is still more seen with the President. And Zoey disappears.
I know that Charlie's job has crazy hours, and with Zoey going to college it's almost impossible to meet that often. But still, if you show a couple having a lover's quarrel and then apologize to each other, you expect to see the result of that. I'm just sayin'

Yes, yes, I know you have "just said it." Yes Zoey goes away... the reason behind this is because she isn't in any way part of the main cast. (nor was Charlie for a time for that matter.) She is a secondary character that only appears in a script when and if she's needed. Or she is only seen in the backround or leaving a room just as the main character(s) enters... or with just a one line in an epi... this is done simply to fullfill the contract the studio made with the actress. Why do you think Mrs. Bartlet mysteriously went back to NH and people just mentioned her. This is because her contract was fullfilled. She didn't need to\couldn't appear. But the writters still use her character to remind you she still exists somewhere. If we went by what you're saying about Zoey we'd have to have whole episodes dedicated to what happened in NH when the First Lady just happened to go back there... but no we don't. It is left up to our own devices as to what happened there. We imagine. Yes just like the purple dino said we should. Now. Since the thread has gotten wildly off topic (as have a lot of threads here [some of which is my fault but meh.]) I want to get this thread back to it original topic... IE Charlie quotes. So.
This is one of my favorite Charlie quotes... Which isn't as good as the first one I posted but it still get a laugh from me.
It comes from s4 (I'm sure that is right but correct me if it isn't) from the show "The Red Mass."
| QUOTE |
CHARLIE Yeah. Can you make a run to the staff's secretary office. Ellen's not there, but someone should be. Make sure you just take what needs to be signed today. They're going to try and give you a whole stack, and right there is where you become a man, Emily. |

I really like it in season four when he takes over Simon's big brother role for Anthony
| QUOTE |
CJ Anthony, I'm so sorry. Thank you for waiting. This thing came up at the last minute. A bomb at a swimming meet. You probably... I can take you home now. You probably saw it here on the television sets.
C.J.You know... I really miss Simon, too. That's... probably something we can talk about. I asked around today. I wasn't able to find anyone, but I'm not done. There are more people I'm asking tomorrow I'll take you home now.
Anthony mumbles something.
C.J.I'm sorry?
ANTHONY I said I don't need a baby-sitter, bitch. Are you deaf?
C.J.I don't think you do need a baby-sitter...
Charlie who was walking by C.J.'s office overhears Anthony. Charlie walks into C.J.'s office, slams Anthony up against the wall and gets in his face.
ANTHONY What the hell is the matter with you dawg?
CHARLIE This is Ms. Cregg. She's the White House Press Secretary and senior counsel to the President. And if she wasn't, she would still be Ms. Cregg! I don't mind you not respecting people. I mind you doing it out loud. I mind you doing it in this building. You wanna be a punk, fine, but I don't think you've got the size for it. You wanna go to juvey, get out, deal, and kill cops? Okay, but every time you do a crime, you get caught, so I think you're gonna have to do something else.
9:00 on Saturday mornings, I eat breakfast at Cosmo's on Delaware. I come here for an hour and do office work, and then I go to St. Jude's for an hour to play basketball. You can go to juvey, or you can be at Cosmo's 9:00 on Saturday morning. It's entirely up to you.

One of the best Charlie quotes comes at the end of the prank war he and CJ are having in "Hartsfields Landing" episod. After Loe tells them both to calm down and CJ throws some papers on her desk and the desk falls to the floor (after Charlie had been leaning up against it, always wondered about that)
CJ: how long do you usually make someone your bitch?
Charlie: Depends
