Title: Your life depends on this poll
Description: Seriously.
Jakazul - June 21, 2005 09:32 PM (GMT)
Alright, as you all know, YJUTT is aproaching it's third year and we have been discussing making a few changes around here. One of the things we've been wanting to change are the rules.
At the bottom of this post I'll put a copy of the full set of "new" rules that we're considering, but here is a list of the major changes:
1. Three character limit. Two cannon, one original.
2. Slightly more leniency on some minor issues.
3. More frequent posting in storyline.
4. More clarity. The rules are easier to read and understand.
***
PROTOTYPE:
1. INTERACTION:
Respect all players. That means respect other people's race, sexualtiy, religion and/or other people in general. If you disrepect anyone, Administration reserves the right to ban you. No questions will be asked. You may or may not be warned ahead of time.
2. BEHAVIOR:
This site is for all ages, however we can not gurantee that it will always be 100% appropriate. If it's disgusting, blasphemous or blatantly pornographic; use common sense and don't put it on here, but we will be reasonable.
2b. We want to be fair and will respect your sexual orientation no matter what it is as long as you respect ours, however we do not allow slash in any shape or form. If the character is straight in the comics, he'll be straight here. If he's gay in the comics, he'll be gay here. That's just the way it goes.
3. ADMINS:
The admins must follow the rules. Granted we make them, but we are still not above the law. Believe me, there's a hidden Admin section and we argue about this stuff every day so that we can keep everything fair.
Do not defy administration. If you have something you wish to discuss with us, do so with a Private Message (PM). But if an Admin makes a final decision, that's it. If you post a message on the board to the effect of "So and so admin is so stupid 'cause of..." expect to be banned by morning.
Also, the Admins are like Gods. You don't argue with God do you? If they say it, it goes. You can ask, you can make requests, but you can't defy or argue.
4. CHARACTERS:
Players may have up to three characters. That's it, don't bother asking for more. They can be from any group of DCU past or present or other DCU Characters or they can be Original Characters. But PLEASE only apply if you are absolutely certain that you wish to be involved in the RPG. You may have two DCU characters and one original. NPC's are minor characters used for story development and my be used temporarily by anyone as needed.
If you are playing an canon character, keep their personality and quirks in mind when posting as them. We don't want to see, for example: Martian Manhunter doesn't behave like Plastic Man. This includes behavior, character history and sexuality. Characterizations are a must.
4b. You can reserve a character. Just PM an ADMIN or a MOD and tell 'em which character you are reserving. Then you'll have one week to apply for it. If you fail to do it, your reservation will expire and the character will again be available.
When applying for a character here, remember, we want quality role players that will put effort into there RP's, and keep up with the board. We expect more than a few lines per post. One liners just won't be accepted and we might even delete the post until you give us more. (You've been warned)
5. POSTING:
Post regularly. If you go missing for two weeks, then your character will be taken over by the RPG Gamemaster. If you go missing for more than 3 weeks, you will loose your character completely.
A bit of advice, though not actually a rule: Don't join a bunch of storylines at once or you will be confused and overwhelmed and leave them hanging.
If you disappear for more than two weeks without letting us know. You'll lose your character and are your player account will be deleted from the site.
This is a common rule to all RPG boards know to man. Do NOT permanently kill off other people's characters. Do not control other people's characters. If you do you're banned. If you feel like having power over all the characters, then write a fanfic.
Post every time it's your turn. DO NOT leave a storyline hanging. If it's your turn, then post. If you can't keep up, get out of the storyline.
And of course, have fun. That's the most imporant thing.

Well they honestly seem exactly like the rules we already have. Not much different than before.
And we need a BIGGER mention about NO AUTOING characters, because players often forget that what they want another character to do is NOT always going to be what the other players want their characters to do.
And after we decide on this NO MORE please. We can't keep altering the rules all the time because a few players are unhappy. This is what? The fifth time rule changes has been brought up in the last few years? Most sites don't even do it twice. If one or two people have a problem, they should get over it.
Marx - June 22, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
Sure I'll go with the new rules, I don't think it's that big of a difference either besides the extra character. But being honest, while I totally agree with Admins following the rules(which makes total sense otherwise what's the point in having them)we're going to be more lenient on the people we know which tend to be admins so there will be some slight biased because some of us have known each other for just about 2 years now lol.

Query: I'm assuming that the rule of "each character must be on a seperate team' still applies, right? Keeps us from having all our characters on one team.
NutiketAiel - June 23, 2005 10:10 AM (GMT)
And what's wrong with blasphemy? I LIKE blasphemy!!! <_<2
Jakazul - June 23, 2005 10:23 AM (GMT)
Characters per-team'll... Oh don't get me started. It probably should be in affect, but at the same time; when not a lot of people post, sometimes it's better to have a few full teams...
And I'm SORRY Jim, I know you like blasphemy, a LOT of people like blasphemy, but a lot of people hate blaspehmy too. It's like the porn. A lot of people like porn. In fact, most people like porn, some of them more than others, but we want to keep the site so that younger memebers (like Rach' and myself for example) can still come here. So no blasphemy (atleast against God, now Marx and Fab consider themselves gods and you can blaspheme them -as long as it doesn't disrespect them- all you want) or porn or old people in boxers running around atleast for now.
Robin - June 23, 2005 10:28 AM (GMT)
I thought of something... What if we had third character use as a reward? It was something I saw at another RPG site once. Players who join are initally allowed two characters. But if they prove to be good players, then we reward them by allowing them a third character if they so desire?
Its might be reaching, but it might also help us from having the less than grande players take on more than they should.
Marx - June 23, 2005 12:40 PM (GMT)
Well, until we get more members we could always say no more than 2 per team but then that would mean changing the rules again...meh, we can always do joint stories when we have a lack of posters. Oddly enough I think "Aloha" was timed perfectly, we actually don't have that many posting Titans at the moment.
And I like the idea of newbies getting 2 characters and then three as they prove themselves, that seems pretty fair.
Jakazul - June 23, 2005 06:11 PM (GMT)
Third as a reward actually does sound like a really good idea.
And we have 166 members, that's enough that we should be in a place where we're actually worried that there's too many to have everyone involved, the problem is that out of those 166 members there's only 20 or 30 tops who actually post regularly or really at all. That's one of the reasons we keep bringing up this stuff and everything else, is to make the site more appealing.
There's been several people that have talked to me that want the entire application system removed, but we need good posts too. I mean in YJUTT 1.0 I can remember a couple of times where there were characters that switched users three times per. story... At the same time, I also remember more stories that were finished and successful.
Robin - June 23, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
Yeah I've heard from those same types of people before asking that we abolish the Application system. But you wanna know something? Several of those people are the ones that had their applicaiton reject becuase they seemed unable to follow the directions in the applicaiton processs and are over all pretty bad writters and got all kinds of petty about it. They are the ones who simply post a half-done bio in the accepted characters area without sending it to an admin for approval, because they don't want to bother with it.
I'm not saying this applies to all of those who have complained but it true since I've gotten complaint letter as well.
Besides, you'll remember that back in the old site it was the same people (Jake, Rachel, Chris, Fab, Matt, Lani, Marx and myself for starters) who finished all those stories, while those who switched ever other day, only wrote on line posts that didn't help the story and sometimes disappeared after one post.
And how many times did we complain about that bringing down our stories?
Part of what made this site so popular was the quality of our writing. I've gotten a lot of compliments about how many of you guys write and how impressive your skills make the site look.
Quality over quantity and all that stuff kids.
Jakazul - June 23, 2005 10:03 PM (GMT)
You... You and your... Logic...
lol Honestly I agree with everything you said. I wasn't brining up their complaints as a suggestion, I like having applications, I was just bringing it to everyone's attention. And you are right, I had kinda forgotten our complaints then also.
And yes, I've gotten a lot of compliments too, our site does look more proffessional, I just want to keep it that way. Quality over quantity is certainly true (one of my favorite expressions) but it's a little less true when there is NO quantity.
Robin - June 28, 2005 08:54 PM (GMT)
So... I'm going on a limb here and saying a majority says to use the new adaptation of the rules...
Entropy Aegis - June 28, 2005 09:15 PM (GMT)
I dunno...it's still pretty close...
NutiketAiel - June 28, 2005 10:03 PM (GMT)
We shouldn't leap to conclusions.
Can we get some UN Elections Monitors in here please?
Entropy Aegis - June 29, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
Not after what happened last time.
NutiketAiel - June 29, 2005 12:51 PM (GMT)
Entropy Aegis - June 29, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)
Yet another reason why you're still the Newbie, Jim. :D
NutiketAiel - June 29, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
Thanks, but that doesn't answer my question. :P
Robin - June 29, 2005 06:46 PM (GMT)
you REALLY don't want to know. >Shivers< The Horror... The Horror....
Jakazul - June 29, 2005 06:51 PM (GMT)
I think he's old enough now that we could probably explain it to him. Just leave out some of the more... gruesome details. And the whole part with the Vatican.
Robin - June 29, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
Jake, I'd rather we all not go back to court again. We can't afford it this time.
NutiketAiel - June 29, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
...?
Will no one tell me what went on?
Entropy Aegis - June 29, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
For your own safety it's probably better we didn't.
We're thinkin about you here, Jim, we don't wanna warp your delicate and fragile mind...yet... ;)
