Title: NEW Avatars
Description: That's right kids

Okay gang,

For those who want, I've got a mess-load of new character avatars for the site that I've been making over the past few months. You know how it is, you see a pic and decide to use it. So for those who want one, let me know and I'll e-mail you an assortment of avatars for your character in which to choose from. Some characters I must warn you though are lacking due to the fact they are A.) rare characters who only appeared once or twice B.) a character that has been over-looked a lot.

As always you can also brows my pic-link which has the current Avatars.

ROBIN'S DCU HERO AVATARS
ROBIN'S DCU VILLAIN/DEAD CHARACTER AVATARS

And there ya go.

What're we gonna do when Players have 3 characters?

Robin - August 4, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
We've expanded the designated picture ratio for avatars to include three characters. So you'd get to have three images in a row.

I was thinkin we'd do the above. each character gets 60 x 90.

Robin - August 4, 2005 01:07 AM (GMT)
Maybe. I played around with that same idea when we first agreed to allow certain players 3 characters (including vertical and diagonal versions), but the problem I always found was that the cut it felt crowded. And the 60X90 size feels more difficult to make exactly which character you have. Especially with all the blonde haired blue eyed super heroes girls.

The current ratio size we have is 90*270. It does take up room, but you can make out the characters. But of course its feels really long.

I was playing around with some ideas to alter the avatar. It was going to be made to look like an Oracle file. It would look like a computer window with the three character's pic and name, but so far my design hasn't come out properly. Its still in the works. Another Idea that I had involved the character being set in 180*180 square an the area that has no character have the YJUTT logo in it. I'll post that idea later.

Slight idea.

Its cool. It a might tad distracting, but very cool nonetheless.

That one would take up less room on the side and we'd be able to see the characters properly, though we might need to post it else so it doesn't take up too much space on the site and again... I keep watching it... what was I saying? It might prove distracting when people are reading the posts.

I was wondering about that myself actually. Originally I didn't have them fade before they went to the other avatar and I didn't think it'd be physically possible to read a post with it changing that suddenly lol.

Hm, we could find another image host for them if that's what you mean. I use Imageshack but I'm not sure exactly how long the pictures would stay there. So far there haven't been any deleted to my knowledge but it isn't like I remember the first ones I hosted there.

Robin - August 4, 2005 02:03 AM (GMT)
Laughs. that would have been worse. Grounds for a seazure or something.

I mean don't get me wrong, its really cool, but I keep looking at as it changes while trying to reading.

As for image hosting, the problem I'm worried about excess work. I mean we'd have to either give everyone access to the site (not likely), or the person who owns it would need to constantly alter things to get those avatars up and altered and so on. The ones we host on the site, players can put up and change if they see fit when they want.

Still, it is cool.

I'm toying around with some ideas... I like Marx', but it would be a lot of work wouldn't it? Matt's idea looks pretty good to me. And we wouldn't have to redo the people who only want two characters, which we would with an animated one.

Marx - August 4, 2005 01:41 PM (GMT)
Hm, well the animated one could work a lot better if more than one person could do them. Does anyone else have ImageReady or a program that can do animated gifs? Of course Alan would still have the Avatar part because he just does them so well. :D

Robin - August 4, 2005 08:15 PM (GMT)
I've got image ready... somewhere. I had to re-boot my comptuer from scratch the other day and am still re-loading everythign onto it.

Jakazul - August 4, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)
ImageReady... I don't have. Animation Shop, Corel Animation, Bryce's animator, Harvard Design animator I do.

NutiketAiel - August 5, 2005 03:58 AM (GMT)
I seriously dislike the idea of the changing avatars. Distracting while reading, and takes too long if you really do want to look at the different pics.

Also, Alan, the avatar you have listed as "Brainiac 13" is, in fact, simply the new version of Brainiac 5 as found on the cover of the first issue of the current Legion series.

Jakazul - August 5, 2005 05:19 AM (GMT)
But Jim, you forget. We disregard anything mentioned in Legion. B) (jk)

Marx - August 5, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
Hm, guess the changing avatars could just be an option then.

Robin - August 6, 2005 03:25 AM (GMT)
hehe. I know Jim I wanted to see how long it was going to take you to figure that out. I almost named Invisible Kid, Invisible Boy, but that was too easy. As for the picture, yeah, I decided to use that version over the other one I have, cause I know it would bug ya. lol

Jakazul - August 6, 2005 05:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah! (Eh, I didn't have anything good to say. Don't know why I'm even posting.)
