Title: Review: Infinite Crisis(Spoilers)
Marx - October 15, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
For those who've been following Infinite Crisis and for those who could care less because it's just a ploy to get you to buy more comics and for those who want to know more I've made this section lol. I'm pretty much going to give the bare basics of what's happened and then if I feel like it, my opinion of awesomeness. Let's start with the preludes.
The Return of Donna Troy: Basically...Donna Troy returned. Really...that's like the basis of what happened in the 4 issues. She was originally with the Titans of Myth, who wanted to use her as a way to get out of this dimension because something was going to happen. She was brainwashed at first but broke free from it with help from the Teen Titans/Outsiders and ended up either sending the Titans of Myth to Tarturus, having the Sun Eater eat them, or letting them watch over the Titans in Tarturus. And with Donna Troy back, she looked at the future and was all "...crap...so that's why they wanted to leave so bad..." In short, the universe...is screwed.
Moving along!
The OMAC Project(w/Sacrifice): Actually a good bit happened in this one. As you know Maxwell Lord had Blue Beetle killed, and has completely taken control of Checkmate. But unknowingly to him, his right hand girl Sasha is actually Batman's girlfriendperson. Anyway, turns out that Batman made a satellite because he was all paranoid about the other heroes and Max was able to take it from him and make these OMACs which are badass robot things that are basically nanobytes taking over a human host.
Apparently for years Max has been screwing with Superman's mind and finally did it enough that he could control him, and had him beat the living hell out of the JLA, most notedly Batman (I reeeeeally want to get that issue, I only have the last two parts of Sacrifice). Superman and Wonder Woman go at it awhile before she goes to Max and puts him in the lasso of Truth. And she's all "Stop this madness, Max!" And he's all "You gotta let me go eventually, and as soon as you do, it's on." And she's all "How do I stop you?" and he's all "You gotta kill me, beotch." She thinks about it and SNAP!, his neck's broken like a twig.
Meanwhile, the satellite(Brother MK 1, something like that) has become completely self aware, and even though he was only made to watch and spy, he's all "Screw that. Max only wanted me to watch and spy and look where that got him. All metas must diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie!" So it goes and activates all the OMACs, which number over a million to attack every meta they can find. Some heroes and villains in up dying (like Firefly and Red Rocket) but I don't actually know the majority of them. Long story short, between Batman and Sasha, they were able to shut down the majority of the OMACs buuuuuut, there are still over 200,000 left as well as Brother, who coincidentally broadcasted Wonder Woman killing Max to the world. In short...the metas...are screwed.
Moving along!
Villains United: And so with it being public or so knowledge that Dr. Light's head was screwed with to make him an idiot "Lex" forms a society of supervillains pretty much on the ideal that it's our way or the nuh uh way. Such as with Catman, never heard of him before but he was apparently a total joke and he's become a badass, so badass that Talia even admitted that he reminded her of a certain someone. He turned down the Society and next thing he knows all his cats were shot. Back to the story, a team called The Secret Six is formed by "Mockingbird" with the members of Catman, Deadshot, Parademon, Ragdoll, Cheshire, and Vandal Savage's daughter whose name escapes me at the moment.
Anyway, the Society saw them as a joke at first since they're numbers were in the hundreds while the Secret Six were just...well...six. This turned out to be quite wrong since the Six totally kicked their butts. Along the way you find out that it was actually Deadshot that killed all of Catman's cats(cats as in lions in case you don't know) not Deathstroke as we've been lead to believe. Also you find out that "Lex's" apparent plan is to mindwipe all the heroes. Also you find out that there's apparently 2 Lex's, the original one also goes under the name of "Mockingbird" while the other one's leading the Society, hence his quotation marks of doubt(trademark Jim). And "Lex" is apparently going to betray someone. Also Cheshire betrays the team to the Society because "Mockingbird" threatened to kill Lian if she left. Of course she didn't care because she got Catman to get jiggy with her and she'd have another baby anyway. Of course...that was until she ran into Deathstroke, POW! But most importantly we find out that Knockout is bi and currently dating Vandal Savage's daughter. HLA! *clears throat* In short...the heroes...are screwed.
Moving along!
Day of Vengeance: Ah the age old question. What does the Spectre do without a host? You're a mass murderer? HE KILLS YA! You cheat on your wife? HE KILLS YA! You steal a few bucks from your mom's purse? HE KILLS YA! You yell at your folks? HE KILLS YA! Get where I'm goin with this? But alas, all he wants is a little love, which Eclipso seduces him into...oh, and she also convinces him that all magic is evil so he should destroy every being who uses it. But fear not, for a new magic team formed in a bar by a talking detective chimp is on the case!
Enchantress, Ragman, Blue Devil, Nightshade, a Knight guy, whose name also escapes me, and of course the detective talking chimp form the Shadowpact.
One of the best lines in the comic:
(Enchantress)-You know what Ragman did, over there? He kissed me! He actually thought we shared a moment! (Blue Devil)-Burned! Ah, totally awesome. Anyway, continuing with the story.
I know what you're thinking. Spectre is like an ultimate power, what do 5 random magic uses and a chimp have against him? None, right? Wrong! They wipe the floor with both Spectre and Eclipso, not once, but twice!...kinda. Okay basically the first time, Blue Devil speared Eclipso, taking her out, while Enchantress pulled all the power she could get from the magic users of the world into Captain Marvel who effectively beat the snot out of Spectre. The second time, they recruited Black Alice who can temporarily steal the power from any magic user for a short time, and did just that on Spectre, while Nightshade teleported Eclipso into the Sun putting her into a coma. But there was a problem...without Spectre's powers, he was just a ghost and despite the fact that Black Alice had the powers of a god and could concievably cut off the Spectre's ability to get his powers back or should have somehow been able to destroy the spirit, she had no clue what to do and shortly Spectre got his powers back.
After which, he went after Shazam who was prepping this whole time for the Spectre's return. Fight fight fight, Shazam smacked him down! And and was all, "Yeah! And what?" And Spectre was all, "I can absorb magic, punk! Even yours!" And does just that, not only killing Shazam but also destroying the Rock of Eternity, setting free the Seven Deadly Sins. In short...the magic users...are screwed.
Moving along!
The Rann-Thanagarian War: ...yeah, this one I could have cared less about and so I didn't read it. I'm pretty sure that in short...the universe...is still screwed would pretty much cover it.
Moving along!
The moment you've been waiting for!
Infinite Crisis #1: I just read this yesterday, and I gotta say so far it's pretty cool. In case you haven't been paying attention to the preludes, everyone is screwed! Everyone! The magic users, the metas, the heroes, the villains, the gods, everyone! We go to Donna whose taking a few people to help her "save the universe", while Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are talking in what's left of the Watchtower(beats me what happened to it), the war's still going on, some more heroes died, yadda yadda lets get back to the trinity, which isn't looking very trinityish at the moment.
After beating the holy hell out of Mongul, Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman pretty much ...well...verbally assault the Hell out of each other. But the award for the best zinger must go to Batman! Lets see that replay!

...Wow...that was just...well...

Well said, Bart...well said. On a completely unrelated note. You do realize that you've become almost completely boring since you became Kid Flash?

Sorry Cass, but I do blame the Titans, and so does Bart. Nice to see you're coming around, fight the power! Anyway getting back to the story, the main JLAers have called it quits, hell, one of em's a fugitive. The world's in total chaos and four people, two with capes, are watching with a high and mighty attitude. But now they've grown tired of watching, it's time to get it on! And breaking through the glass! Through the very fabric of our reality! The only ones who can save this universe from going to Hell! Out from the darkness comes...Superman...with gray hair...and possibly pre-Crisis Superboy...and two other people....
....
....
....
riiiiiiiight. Maybe if I read Crisis on Infinite Earths, I'd get that part...whatever...
Okay, I'm not completely bored anymore so I'll give my short opinion on the Crisis so far. With the exception of a few parts in The Return of Donna Troy(like almost the entire first issue), as the first crossover event that I'm actually going to follow, this has some total potential. The preludes have totally rocked, (as in if the Shadowpact get their own comic I'll probably buy it) and did a great job of leading us into the first issue of IC. Though I'm still not quite sold on the two Lexes thing...that seems kinda stupid...but I could be proven wrong. As for IC itself, it did a great job of showing...pretty much that the universe is totally screwed at the moment. I give the thing as a whole, 4 out of 5.
The Chris - October 16, 2005 09:56 PM (GMT)
~Wow, well done Mark, was a very detailed summary which basicaly told me that the DC universe is wel... screwed!
Anyway, alot of these mini series and cross overs have been royaly crap. I mean it, the story lines are really great, the DC universe is screwed and everyone is going to hell, but it takes a year and millions of comics to go from one thing to the next. Basically the story lines are slow moving. Things are in 6 parts when really they could only be in 2 or 3. Although, its better than rushing everything like the Teen Titans series does. It gets confusing trying to follow Infinate crisis, coz whats happening with one character is really happening in 5 different comics with all the cross overs there doing. basically DC are wanting everyone to start reading more comics to follow this huge complex story line, so then the DC executives can wipe their arses with our money. But it is a good story line, just wish it was more basic and easier to follow. Also if yuo've been missing any of the mini series, there releasing them all indvidualy as TPB like next month or something, and am only guesing, but soon I recon the Infinate crisis along with all the other cross overs, mini series and any other preludes, will only be released soon in TPB's which will make it more easy to read an follow.
And I think (from 20 years ago) that their bringing back the multi verse. For those of you who have read Crisis of Infinite Earths and read comic before 1986, (SPOILERS) Donno Troy was returned and giving ALL her memories back, because when the crisis happened back in the 80's, all the different heros merged sort of, so she remebers all the Donno Troy's form all the other different Earths, and the Titans of Myth used her as a key which opened some gate, in the nexus zone for the Multi verse. They wanted to use her to escape our universe for another. But the crisis twenty years ago should have erased the multiverse and fused all the different realities into one, but again, at the end of the crisis, Silver Sids Superman, his dear old Wife Lois, Alex Luthor from another reality, and Earth Prime Superboy all walked into some portal were they disappeared to who knows were, to never be seen or heard off again (SOME MORE SPOILERS) Untill in Infinate Crisis, pissed of from watching the DC universe get screwed, Superman got fed up and punched his way back into our reality.. so please, what the *beep*s happening there, and please dont tell me their bringing back the multi verse that the Crisis 20 years ago worked so hard to get rid off.
Marx - October 17, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
As someone who never read Crisis on Infinite Earths, I thank you for posting that because I had no clue what was going on at the end there lol. I agree it does look like they'll be bringing the multiverse back which would be pretty stupid since I've seen the TPB for Crisis on Infinite Earths, the thing's huge. It's as big as...well, Infinite Crisis will be after the 7 issues, the crossovers like sacrifice, the countdown and the 28 count 'em, 28 preludes.
I totally agree with you though, the stories were totally awesome but they did take their sweet time. The only reason I've been following it as well as I have is because I've been getting the comics, and lately I've been getting so many comics that I have to go to my comic book store every 2 weeks or the box'll get stupidly full. Darn you DC! *shakes fist*
deathfromwithin - October 21, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
thanxs for all the info..i'm lost in all of it cuz i haven't gotten a comic in like 5 months, it sucks that there's so many to collect. In other the news the bit you did with impulse was yust awesome
Marx - October 21, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
lol Why thank you, I thought that Impulse part was pretty cool too, and so true.

Yeah, I know, I've been totally neglecting the reviews but to be honest...I didn't feel like it. But after reading Infinite Crisis 4 I figured I could give a pretty good summary of exactly what the fudge is going on. And I do mean summary because I refuse to get every comic that has "Infinite Crisis: Tie in" on the top because I don't have that kind of money nor do I care. So this is just what's happened in Infinite Crisis and the Day of Vengeance Special(I can't wait for the Bloodpact Series! Oh and reading what I typed before I was able to get the first two issues of Sacrifice and kinda wish I hadn't. The only reason I bought the damn things was so I could see Superman beat up Batman which they never actually showed. Total jip!)
Infinite Crisis #2: We start out with "Superman" (notice the quotes, trust me it'll make things a lot easier to understand) helping Powergirl with the Society of Supervillains, and telling and eventually helping her remember that she's actually the Supergirl from Earth-2 I'm assuming and when the realities merged she became Power Girl which is why she gets all messed up when she's around Supergirl(as seen in Supergirl's series) because they're more or less the same person. Long story short, "Superman"'s "Lois" is dying because they're not in they're reality or something like that. And since our heroes are really screwing things up lately, everyone's thinking the Hell with this, let's bring back Earth-2.
Funny note, every single villain is wanted for the Society except Joker, he's the only one they don't want, personally I find that damn hilarious. Oh and OMACs are attacking Themiscira like whoooooa!
Infinite Crisis #3:: "Superman" goes to the Batcave and tries to convince Batman that bringing back Earth-2 would be the best bet and it'd be cool if he could get his help. To which Batman asks, "What about Dick?" who apparently didn't go so well (kinda curious about what happened to that Robin actually, but I digress) and Batman pulled out his chunk of Kryptonite...which didn't work because "Superman" isn't from this dimension so it...doesn't work, "Superman" simply destroys the ring and goes along his merry way.
Meanwhile a little boy finds the blue scarab thingie which is all glowing with power, so we know we're looking at the future Blue Beetle. And in Themiscira, it's decided that the more the Amazons fight, the more like Barbarians they look as opposed to peace keepers, so the whole island goes into another plane which Wonder Woman won't be able to find again which makes her officially alone.
Meanwhile (gotta love that word), the two Lexes meet up and it seems "Lex"(whose actually Alex Luther) is the more powerful of the two even with Lex's super-robot-suit thing. And this isn't helped by the fact that "Superboy" shows up and helps to throughly kick Lex's bootay. But Lex is able to teleport away before getting fried. While this is going on, Power Girl's able to find a huge machine(the one "Lex" was using to supposedly mindwipe the heroes) with a bunch of heroes tied up to it, like Martian Manhunter, The Ray, Black Adam, etc. and like all curious cats, got hers as "Superboy" knocked her out.
At this point I'll take a slight Infinite Crisis break and go to the Day of Vengeance Special.
Day of Vengeance Special #1: Basically the Spectre's still killing all magic users(including the gods of Chaos and Order which depowers the current Hawk and Dove) he can find and the Bloodpact is still doing what they can to stop him. Though at the moment the Bloodpact's a taaad bit bigger than usual. Remember issue 50 of Young Justice with the shizzette load of teen heroes. It's like that, but with magic users, magic users including! Duh duh-dah duuuuuuuuuuuum! Empress! Sure she was on for like 2 panels but she was still there.
The extra Bloodpact members helped to gather the pieces of the Rock of Eternity while the core members were each given a tiny tube to catch the 7 Deadly Sins, who'd taken over some of the magic users. Meanwhile Nabu(once again, I know I read what happened to Dr. Fate, but I've forgotten.) is fighting Spectre, putting up a pretty good fight while pissing him off at the same time. And being the last guardian of the 9th age of magic this fight would be pretty significant. Unless of course there's been so much damage to magic that letting the 9th age linger would do more harm than good...hmmm...
Zatanna's able to pull the rock of Eternity back together, the 7 Sins are captured(but so is Nightshade..ooo mysterious) and Captain Marvel will be forced to stay inside the rock, which I guess would make him like Shazam, not sure. But back to the god-brawl! Spectre has to get totally souped up, but he does kill Nabu. Have you ever gotten beaten but you were still able to taunt the guy afterwards? That's what Nabu did. Basically he said that now Spectre'd crossed the line, and even though if he'd been more patient Nabu, Shazam and the others would have gotten him a perfect host(who'd have been a ladyyyy rrrRROOOWWRRRrrr), now he's just gonna get stuck with whoever's at hand again. Sucks to be him.
Anyway, before Nabu croaks completely he gives the others his helmet which doesn't have a universe in it anymore but it still has some power and says that the 10th age of magic is about to start. Captain Marvel throws the helmet so it's up to fate who the next Fate is, witty ain't it?
Infinite Crisis #4: Well, back to the Crisis. Bludhaven get's bombed like a mutha#$%# with these glowing green thingies. Booster Gold's looking for the Blue Scarab and finds the boy who found it before. But the scarab fused to the boy's spine so it'll be kinda hard to take it back. Curiouser and curiouser. And we see Spectre's new host, wooooo. Also Power Girl's added to "Lex"s machine thing while being told that basically he was behind all the preludes. He gathered the villain society, he got Psycho-Pirate to help set up Spectre getting all pissed at magic, he was the one who reprogrammed Brother Eye, which means he's in control of the OMACs, and he got "Superboy" to smash planets together or something that caused the Thanagarian war thing which from what I can understand made an opening that could be used to bring back Earth-2, which is what the machine actually does! *gasp*
Basically, Alex is evil, and is using "Superman" to find a perfect Earth, wow...a Luther being evil, never would have seen that one coming. Anyway, "Superboy" meets up with Superboy(told you those quotes would make things easier later on), "Superboy" gets all pissed about how Superboy isn't the real Superboy and the two fight. Well not so much as fight as "Superboy" beating up Superboy and Krypto(Kon really doesn't do that well against other Superboys...). But then Superboy starts laughing and we seen find out it's because he used his T-Terminal to call the others, and by others I mean the Titans, The Doom Patrol, and the JSA.
Now this is where the story gets funny. Apparently "Superboy" doesn't know his own strength because he kept accidentally killing people, even ripped of Risk's arm. It was like "Get off me! Damn I didn't mean to punch off your head! Get off me! Crap! Now I punched a hole through you! Get off me! Damn I'm sorry here's your arm back! Why do you keep making me kill you like this!?' Pretty funny right? Anyway, Bart, Wally and Jay start pushing "Superboy" seemingly into the Speed Force but apparently it isn't the speed force. Jay couldn't keep up, and wherever it was Wally tried to say goodbye to Linda and her twins(as in her babies you sick sick people ;) ), but Linda went with him and Wally disappeared. Bart seemed to be all alone but out of the portal thing that "Superboy" was going into, came Max and Barry and Jesse(wait, aren't they dead? Yes! Yes they should be!) helped to pull "Superboy" in and Bart disappeared with them. Which left Jay alone and speedless since speed force is apparently gone.
Back to the machine-thing. Getting Black Adam to say Shazam activated it and wooooo Earth-2 is reformed. *takes a deep breath* And that's it so far.
The Chris - January 22, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
~Wow, I have to say IC #4 Is the shizzness, an now makes everything thats been happening for the past 6 months suddenly kick arse and make sence. It brought everything together an showed how everyone has been manipulated an how evrything that happens fit into whats going on. Alex and Superboy Prime have been playing EVERYONE, And I mean everyone, they are mean bitch's!!
To begin with I didn't really like the series, or knew what was the relavence of half the things going on, like day of vengence, or the Thungarian/ Rann war, but now they have fallen into place an everything makes sence, make me kinda wish I was paying more attention to the other mini series and cross overs.
Look on the DC comics web-site for the specials to come. In Robin next week, the Titans go to Cadmuss to rescue Superboy, Teen Titans next month Nightwing and SUperboy team up to fight something involving the crisis, in Febuary theres the first Teen Titans annual, were after the crisis Conner and Cassie send Valentines day together! An in Aprill, in Superman/ Batman, their younger counter parts Conner and Tim team up in a IC special! So the months to come really are goin to be heavy on the wallet, but shibby for me, coz the solictors kick anus
Marx - January 24, 2006 12:58 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I have to say I liked IC 4 as well. It did do a good job of saying how everything was relevant. Though I think having Alex be behind Spectre's manipulation was a bit much. He'd have still been just as evil if he'd caused the Rann-Thanagarian War, The Villains Society, and Brother Eye. I just thought it would have been cooler if that just happened, like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman breaking up. Not because it was orchestrated but because it would make it seem like Earth-2 would be a conceivably better option. Though I do have to admit I'm really curious about what they'll be doing with some of the loose ends at the moment.
For example, what will the 10th age of magic entail? Who'll be the new guardians of said magic? If Captain Marvel's gonna be stuck in the Rock of Eternity, does that mean there's gonna be a new Captain Marvel?(Why not? They're makin a new everyone else. Blue Beetle, Firestorm, Dr. Fate, Spectre, Batgirl's about to be replaced with Batwoman from what I've heard, there's probably more I don't know about) What the heck's goin on with the speedsters at the moment? How are Hawk and Dove gonna get their powers back?(If they do. But they were just introduced, I doubt they'd just leave it like that)
And yeah *sigh* DC's really trying to eat up our money. Sure just have SB guest starring all over the place because you think we'll buy it...*buys the comic grudgingly*
deathfromwithin - January 27, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
sounds good wish i was able to collect em >_< ...the only thing i find a bit hard to understand is why is it that no matter what book Kon show's up in he always get his as$ handed to him(unless it was his book or some of yj) i mean with the new power upgrade he should be able to at least get a few good hit's in.
Marx - January 27, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
lol I totally agree. But in this case I kind of understand it. They were having "Superboy" moving planets and making it sound like that wasn't a big deal. to my knowledge not even Superman can just move a planet so "Superboy" probably would have spanked him too. He did take out Martian Manhunter, Power Girl and I think Black Adam. Gotta love those preCrisis power levels lol.
deathfromwithin - January 28, 2006 08:47 PM (GMT)
i'm pretty sure superman moved a planet before, maybe it was pre-crisis?
Marx - January 28, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
I was looking on some of the message boards and they said Superman was able to move a planet with help from some others, I forget who. Pre-Crisis he probably could, but I'm just guessing. It seems like they were insanely DBZ powerlevelled then lol.
deathfromwithin - January 28, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
lol true the dbz char. can yust go on forever there powerlevel's were yust insane...but of topic i yust read on a message board that in the new Robin book Superboy show's up and ask's Robin for help, it seem's that since Kon is half and half he doesn't process the solar energy like SuperMan and SuperBoy prime, in fact he got his as$ handed to him so back that his body is not healing the right way and it seem's he's falling apart a-gain like when he did in 'losing it' and 'meltdown' arc's of his own title, back when he had the bumps and was yust melting away. Anyhow's Robin's convinced that Lex know's how to fix the problem and i'm guessing that he's gonna try to make him cough up the answer.

Marx - February 4, 2006 07:19 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure that's a reference that just went way over my head. I actually did read the first part of that story though. It's pretty good for what it is, it was pretty Robin-heavy but then again it is his comic. lol If it was Superboy's comic I probably wouldn't mind. And yup, he looks pretty much like he did in "Meltdown".

Yeah, the chef thing? Not really a reference.
