Very little to report, sadly. It's bill-paying day, which is a chore nobody I know seems to like. On the plus side, night school got cancelled last night due to bad weather. Considering that I totally blew off my english comp assignment this week... I got veeeeery lucky, didn't I?
I suppose I ought to at least attempt to comment on the Oscars.
Keep in mind, I did not actually see the entire program through. Unfortunately, attempting to label unmarked VHS tapes seemed to rank higher on my interest level. Having seen Ben Stiller in green pajamas pretending to be invisible, did nothing to change that opinion. Even Jon Stewart was willing to fire off, “Well, at least now we’ve seen proof that he’s Jewish.” He was referring to the fact, that the green thermals did little for making him… invisible, in certain areas.
Though I’m uncertain if little is the word to use… but anyway.
All over the newspapers, there is endless speculation about why ‘Brokeback Mountain’ didn’t win more awards. A lot of people are VERY quick to assume, that “Hollywood still isn’t ready for gay cowboys”. That’s a load of bull crap.
The simple fact is, Brokeback simply couldn’t ‘rise to the occasion’, when put against some of the other nominees. Having seen both “Brokeback” and “Crash”, I can honestly say it’s a well-deserved win for “Crash”. And it’s just as simple as that. It was a fair choice, and that’s only sad that people can’t be happy no matter what. If “Brokeback” had won, there’d be just as many critics panning it as there are now, since it didn’t win best picture. Or they’d be panning “Crash”, etc all.
