Description: Rachael Leigh:Insert Clever SubtitleHere

Hey guys, girls, and fruitcakes. Just thought I'd let you know that I started up a new blog over on blogspot and to tell you to check it out. Or I'll my minion army of Gorilla Zombies hunt you down. B)
Rachael Leigh: Enter Clever Subtitle HereThere's not much up yet. Just two or three posts(which is still longer than most blogs I've ever kept on blogspot. :P ), but still feel free to look around, drop me a comment, and lemme know what you think. This next week I'll be taking suggestions for sketches, so if you want me to draw something for ya, leave me a comment. This monday will be probably be a Wolverine sketch, but past that, I'm open. :D
And just to discuss the above drawing...
The Impulse sketch above is the most fun I've had on a drawing to date. I have a great love for the character and have been meaning to sit down and draw him ever since I heard that Mike Wieringo(Who had a hand in creating the lovable speedster) passed away about two weeks ago. Wieringo is one of those guys who really wanted to get away from the whole grim and gritty fad and just get back to making comics fun again. He was understandably upset when he read that they had killed off Bart. He was always a fan first and a professional second.
Drawing Impulse was fun. I really want to draw more of him. Maybe do some sequential samples of em'. I can't write scripts though, so anyone who can throw me an idea for a three pager or who can write out a script or plot for me, it would be greatly appreciated. :D

Well if you have any ideas that you'd like made into a script, I'd gladly do it. I love drawing but I know that I would have better luck at writing in the industry. If you want scripts for anything, I have a few ideas, dealing with the energizer bunny, one with sailor moon, and a few others. They are all short, funny parody things that came to me and my friends in the cafeteria one day. they are funny as hell but need to be illustrated to get the point across.

Gorilla zombies...very nice. :D And as for Bart, as usual it's totally awesome. So great seeing him as Impulse again. Totally love the hair.

I miiiiiiiss Baaaaart!
And well, if I ever get a short comic idea i'll script it up and send it on up to ya heh.
Oooooh, and d'you do comissions? (even though I have no idea how i'd pay you or with what...mostly it's 'do you do requests')
I'd LOVE to see how you'd draw either Shinobi (in or out of costume...although out gives you more creative freedom lol) or Teen Lantern.
It's always fun to just have an artists rendition of your character on hand aye?
P.S.-On the subject of loveable speedsters, i've been considering at least one way of bringing High Velocity back: Assuming the identity of his creator. That means I simply need to ask for his password heh...
So...would anyone COMPLAIN about that?

Mad-libb: Hey, that'd be cool. Feel free to IM to me. Right now, I'm just looking for a good Impulse short, but I'd still love to read em' over and see if I could do something fun with em from a pencilers perspective. :D
Marx:Thanks! I have a love/hate relationship with Barts old hair now. It's fun to draw at a small size, but I had a hard time drawing it on the head shots without it looking like a big mop up on his head. Barts just not Bart though without the big feet and big hair. :D
Shin:As I told Mad-libb, feel free to email me a script. I'm greedy when it comes to good writing. >:D And sure, I do commisions. Suggestions for what to draw on my blog are free, but for actual, original commisions, I'll probably charge 20$ each. I'm going to be setting up a P.O. box and paypal account for just that sort of thng later.
And I'll draw Teen Lantern first for fridays sketch. Should be fun. :) Then I'll do Shin for next mondays sketch.

Wooooooo!!
Shin and TL will finally have artistic recognition! Thanks Rachael!

Haven't posted these on my blog just yet, but I thought I'd go ahead and post these here. :D
Teen Lantern:

Rachael/Falcon/"Ella" post OYL

On the first, I didn't have a pic with me at the time I drew TL's mask, so sorry if it's a bit off. I can't ink or color it now since I don't have any inking supplies with me and since I don't have a wacom tablet or Tablet pc with me, so anyone who wants to take a shot at doing so, feel free.
The second is my first ever attempt at watercolor, so keep that in mind. I bought up a nice moleskin watercolor sketchbook about a month ago and I finialy worked up the courage to try something in it.
Lemme know what you think!
Oh! And be sure to check my blog out. I just updated it and there is now some Tim Drake, Wolverine, and Powergirl sketchs up. Any feed back on those would be greatly appreciated, so feel free to leave me a comment on my blog. ;)

Ha, good work! I liked the water colors one of Rachael/Ella. I dunno, I really like the water color method...maybe cuz it tends to give it a sort of rough look, kinda like impressionist art and I really like impressionist art. (or I could be blowing smoke...I dunno)
And as for the ever lovable Teen Lantern:
I really like the pictures. In costume he looks kinda like a more filled out Impulse and the close up of his face he looks a little like the X-men: Evolution version of Quicksilver (maybe a little? Right?)
And the one where he's making the giant fist is amusing, but for some reason I really like the one with the magnifying glass.
All in all I enjoy them...sorry I can't help much with improvements...but i'm rather blind in that department anyway...i'm still struggling along with anatomy and perspective.
By the way: What does her shirt say down in the water color?
Marx - September 3, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
Great work as usual. Love the mask actually, it's kinda like Kyle's original one. Totally might use that in the ADAC Green Lantern if that's cool with Justin, I'll probably be working on him next, either him or Erin...possibly both. And yeah, I think the expression in the magnifying glass one's pretty cool. Oh and last but not least, total respect for the watercolors, I can't paint worth squat, I suck at keeping the same color consistency once I start mixing colors.
Shinobi - September 3, 2007 06:48 PM (GMT)
Heh, I don't have any trouble with that being the mask he wears in ADAC.
kidflash3 - September 3, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
I would love to see one of Shazam and Spirit
mad-libbs - September 3, 2007 09:49 PM (GMT)
mind if i take a stab at coloring as well? i have a tablet and cs2. i just need a color pallet from justin.
Fledgling - September 3, 2007 10:31 PM (GMT)
Shin: Lol. Nah. Rour right. Thats one of the things that I find appealing about watercolors as well. It's really more like sketching with paint than it is like painting and, when you only get the chance to lay down maybe two or three washes before you start ruining the color quality, it forces one to be more loose with how they work. I have seen watercolor paintings that were more on the realists side, but I have no idea how the artist is able to achieve that. :D
Heh. I didn't even notice how much Jay looks like Quicksilver until you mentioned that, but he totally does. At first, I was trying to make him look like a deaged cartooned Justin Hartley(The guy who played GA on Smallville), but then I decided that he would end up looking to much like a male model. :P
And hey, if you want help with anatomy and perspective, then I would love to recommend a few books to you that have really been a help for me.
And 'Ella's' shirt in the watercolor painting says 'Die Hipster Scum'. Sort of ironic since everyone I've ever seen wearing a shirt like that is considered to be 'hip', but ahwell.
Marx:Aw, thanks! And year, color consistency can be a huge pain, as I'm starting to find out. Plus the colors always dry lighter than they are when their wet, so it can be hard to get coloring just right. What I've been doing is trying to mix up enough of each pigment together on my palette so that when it dries, I can just add a little water and get the same color again.
Kidflash: Sure. I'll add em' to my list of requests(as short as that list is) I'll try to have em up on my blog late this week or the next one.
Mad-libb: Sure. Go right ahead. Let us see the results tho' after your done
Marx - September 3, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
Oh...it's a short list then? So...it wouldn't be that big of a pain to add Harm and Supersonic to it? (oh fear my subtle hintage!) Wouldn't mind getting that list of anatomy books as well. Haven't tried to draw realistically in a bit, but once things slow down I'll probably start again.
mad-libbs - September 4, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
if you could send me a larger file, rachael, it would be much appreciated! :D
Shinobi - September 4, 2007 04:46 AM (GMT)
Oooh, recommend away! Recommend away!
