Title: The Fire Still Burns
Description: Hellfire's Origin

Marx - September 20, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
Okay, so this isn't actually Hellfire's origin as much as World Without Young Justice's Secret Origin. For those unfamiliar with the storyline, basically Bedlam sent a bunch of Impulse's scouts back in time to mess around with Young Justice's origin so while YJ did still form, it was much different. This story will make slightly more sense (at least understanding where it's coming from) if you've read In The End. But it's not essential. Basically this story's going to start right when Billy is first donned in the Harm outfit and is going to make his first sacrifice for his demonic powers. Enjoy.

"Come on Billy, you don't have to do this..." James pleaded as he could see the points of Harm's sai, and could almost see his life flashing before his eyes within their reflection. "You're right. I don't have to." Harm replied, the anticipation rising in his voice as he made a dash for James who let out a shriek. The only thing that stopped Harm's intended stroke was a blur of yellow that he saw out of the corner of his eye. He knew it wasn't his imagination because both him and James turned to it. "Whose there?" Harm growled but there was no answer, nor could he see or hear anyone else in the room. Turning back to James, Harm once again went for the swift stab but seemed to have trouble with his follow through.

The distraction had fortunately given him a little more time to think about what he was doing. You'd be amazed how one second, leading to one single thought can completely change an action. And the thought was...'What if that was Greta?' While he knew full well it wasn't Greta, the thought that she'd be not only disappointed in him, but terrified, wouldn't let him thrust the pointed blade into it's intended target. Harm let out a sigh as he pulled back the weapon from a confused James. "T-thank you..." James let out, obviously breathing a sigh of relief. "I almost killed you, James. You shouldn't thank me because I had a change of heart." There was a flash of lightning and the room that once had both Harm and James now only had a teenage James who'd never take his life for granted again.

It wasn't long before a frustrated Harm returned to his house. "Funny. It doesn't...seem like you did any sacrifices. It just seems like you started to do one...then ran away like a little $%&*# before you could even draw any blood." A familiar English voice said from behind Billy who didn't even have it in him to glare. "Buzz...I'm not in the mood. Go away." Billy growled. "Maybe I didn't make myself clear before, this isn't some kind of fad. You don't just choose that you don't want to do it." Harm looked back at Buzz with a glare. "I just did. Now leave." This time, Buzz was the one who glared. "Boy, you have no idea what you're dealing with." Maintaining his glare, Harm made a swift motion and put a small disc on Buzz's forehead. Buzz recoiled and went to attack but was sent away, literally as Billy said, "You are banished." There was only a slight trail of smoke where Buzz had been. As soon as he saw that Buzz could come into his room at any point, he had begun studying ways to banish him if need be. Not that he wanted to use it so soon, but as he said, he wasn't in the mood.

Getting changed, Billy made his way to bathroom to get the paint off of his face before he ran into Greta. "Oh! Billy! What happened to your face?" Billy blinked a bit before he came up with the first excuse to come to mind. "It was just something I was trying out. Don't think it's really me though." He replied with a shrug as Greta gave him a curious look. "You know...you're really weird sometimes..." Greta stated blatantly, causing Billy to chuckle. "You have no idea." The corner of Billy's lips curled up into a smirk as his little inside joke which went over Greta's head. "I was about to take a bath but you can wash it off first if you want." With a nod, Billy went in to wash off his mistake while trying to figure out what he'd do when James told the others that he was a thought away from killing him.

Billy looked into the mirror with a sigh. "What am I doing?" He muttered to himself. With what he almost did, he could only wonder what would have happened if he'd gone through with it. Couldn't really say he wasn't slightly relieved he wouldn't have that weight on his chest anymore. Billy soon remembered that Greta was waiting for him to get out and snapped out of it. "Thanks." Billy said doing his best to give a warm smile as Greta went in for her bath. Getting to his room, Billy laid down on his bed and turned on his radio, letting the music lull him to sleep.

"You're really not going to tell them aren't you?" James jumped as he heard the voice behind him. It was the following day and James had been hanging out with the rest of his friends in the band, trying to figure out who could take Billy's slot. James had been a little reserved until he nearly popped out of his seat from hearing the voice. "Whose there!?" James demanded as the others looked as well before seeing the familiar face. "Buzz? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be teaching the gothtard to be immortal or something?" Rip demanded, seemingly to Buzz's amusement.

"Oh, nevermind about that. He betrayed me as he did you. So I have a vested interest in you knowing just what he did last night if James won't tell you." Buzz's eyes had a soft glow to them as he circled the boys. Rip gave James a look before he pointed out an obvious fact. "Funny. If memory serves, you're the reason he 'betrayed' us." Buzz shrugged and started to walk away. "Well fine. If you don't want to know how lucky it is that James is even here sitting with you then..." His words began to trail off. "What's he talking about, James?" Goth spoke up. Buzz stopped walking as he heard James sigh.

"I think...Billy tried to kill me last night." James mumbled, looking down. The others looked at each other before turning back to him as Buzz's smile grew. "Maybe you should explain that from the beginning." Eddy said as James did just that, explaining how Billy snuck into his room and seemed like he had every intention of killing him but had a change of heart at the last minute. Rip in particular seemed quite annoyed as he looked at Buzz. "Any clue why he'd want to kill us?" Buzz continued to smile and gave another shrug. "Sacrifice." Goth turned to Buzz this time. "Wonder how he got that idea in his head." This time Buzz let out a loud laugh. "If I wanted you 4 dead I'd be convincing Billy to finish what he started, not warning you about it." The logic made sense, though they couldn't have known that this actually worked into his plans as well. A backup plan in fact. The reason that Buzz didn't only train Billy in the first place. "So...what do we do now?" Eddy asked as he leaned back. "Unless you want him to try again once he gets his guts back, there's only one thing you can do isn't it?" Buzz said matter of factly, knowing that this group wouldn't think about calling the police which did actually only leave one option.

"I hate to say it. But he is better than the four of us..." James pointed out with got a glare from the others but did get an eventual approving nod. "Well if you can't beat him fairly. You'll have to attack his weak point. And I do believe we all know what it is...or should I say...who she is." Buzz stated as his eyes were practically flaming with anticipation.
