Title: New This Week..
Description: Comicolos!

Marx - December 17, 2007 04:06 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, actually been thinking about doing a section like this for awhile now. The basic principle is to have a sort of 'Best and Worst' of the week, comic listing similar to Chris's Invincible Super-Blog which I totally suggest checking out. Anyone who has any comics they'd like to add to the list feel free and as always comments are appreciated. So lets start off with last week's!

I have to say if there's a theme for past week it would probably be twist endings lol and yeah I know I'm one to talk with all the Farewell twistage.

Wonder Girl #4

Well first I gotta say I'm not the hugest fan of the art or the new costume but to be honest, the Wonder Girl series has been having so many YJ references I'm definitely willing to look the other way. Also, she's not all that emo now, which is always a good thing, seemed like she was in the first issue but she's been pretty likable and definitely less whiny. And kicking ass! Loved her fight against the Female Furies, definitely shows her amazon training didn't go to waste. But as I said before, the real kicker of this was the twist ending. Knowing Cassie couldn't take down all the furies herself she enlisted some help. The Titans, you say? Not completely.

Yes, those two are who you think they are. *geeks out*

Alright, moving along.

Teen Titans GO! #49

I know this came out 2 weeks ago technically but I just read it this week so I figured it deserved a good mention. There were quite a couple of parallels between this and the actual Teen Titans comic, including Wintergreen getting throttled right at the beginning(sure technically in TT he was killed but you get where I'm going with here). You're led to believe that it's Slade whose trying to get all his resources back but it's none other than
Ravager! Sure technically that makes no sense considering they've blatantly said that this Robin is Dick Grayson, but Ravager's badass in this issue so once again I can look the other way lol.
And of course the art's done by Todd Nauck, so it's frickin awesome.

Green Lantern #25

For those of you who haven't been keeping up with the Sinestro Corps...READ IT! NOW! Really, I've loved just about every issue of it and as far as crossovers go I give it a thumbs up. Certain issues I love more than others but overall it's definitely a good read. And GL 25 marks the end of it so all the questions you have about exactly why Superman Prime's ripping through the multiverse and why Kyle's not Ion anymore are answered (though the Ion thing is more answered in the Ion special). Like World War Hulk(another crossover I fairly enjoyed), you don't actually have to read Green Lantern(which I don't) to follow what's going on, but dammit, you can't go wrong with having insanely powerful people completely depowered and fighting each other human to human, or in this case 2 humans to whatever race Sinestro is.

Also you find out a little more about exactly what's going to happen in "The Blackest Night", that the Green Lantern Corps and the Sinestro Corps are just the beginning. In the end there's be a rainbow corps more or less (Green-Willpower, Yellow-Fear, Violet-Love, Red-Hate, Indigo-Compassion, Orange-Greed, and Blue-Hope) in the near future. Personally this has the potential to be either really awesome, or really lame. But anyway back to the story. It's awesome, Coast City is frickin hardcore, and once more with the twist ending. One of the new rainbow colors is formed, and one that isn't a rainbow color is formed from the remains of the Anti-Monitor. A frickin black Lantern that controls/brings back the dead! Once again, possibly awesome...possibly lame. We'll find out in 2009 when "The Blackest Night" starts. All I can say is...Superboy better not be one of the Black Ring bearers or I'm gonna be ticked...we already have an evil Superboy/man.

Okay, here we go with one of the more unexpectedly awesome titles.

Booster Gold #5

I gotta say, as much as I despise Johns, he and Katz have done really good with this series taking a character I don't really care about and making him awesome. This is another title if you haven't picked up yet, I suggest you do. A good bit of this issue is Booster trying to stop Batgirl from being crippled by the Joker. That alone had me intrigued since without Babs becoming Oracle, a lot of $#!+ would hit the fan considering how much of a help she is to everyone...and Cassandra being a way better Batgirl. :P I'd say this was handled really well and it'll definitely keep me reading it, especially considering another-frickin-twist ending.

Nightwing #139 (The Return of R'as Al Ghul pt. 6 of 7)

While I have actually been keeping up with this (mainly because I read Robin monthly and the storyline was started in Robin), not all of the issues have been spectacular but it's a good enough read. Personally I rather liked this issue because despite it being a Nightwing title, there was definite focus on Robin's logic of wanting to use the Lazurus Pit to bring back his loved ones. Though I did find it interesting the ones he wanted to bring back were his father, Stephanie, and Conner. Where's the Bart love, huh? He's a speedster racist! But seriously I'm totally going to steal some of this logic for Harm's recent change in attitude.

user posted image
Countdown: Arena #2

As I said before in the Final Crisis section, this is a pretty interesting title so far. They are making things really cool with the different versions of the heroes. I'm liking how some of them are more than willing to fight each other while others actually can work together to try and mutiny, regardless of how hopeless the situation looks. This comic's definitely worth at least a browse, and I said it once...I'll say it again...it's hard to go wrong with Vampire Batman, especially when it's part of a twist ending.

user posted image
Salvation Run #2

I...love...villain...based....comics... It's true. The fact that you can have a preteen boy threatening to skin the Joker alive, followed by The Joker beating someone to death with a rock is just incredible amounts of awesomeness. There was a lack of the Flash killers in this issue but it was still pretty fun, though I am a bit confused by Lex apparently arriving there...twice. Not sure if that's a Superboy/man Prime punch or not, unless I'm missing something. But anyway, definitely a cool issue...and The Body Doubles...awesome.

We now deviate from DC to Top Cow.

First Born #3

I'm not sure how many people read The Darkness or Witchblade, but I've read almost all of both volumes of The Darkness and I'm totally psyched that the end of First Born is leading to a third volume. This is basically a Darkness/Witchblade crossover though I think First Born's a good place to start if you haven't read either. And let me say this, you know how picky I can be about the art and I don't usually give props but props are definitely deserved here, the look totally fits the style the comic's going for(I mean, just look at that cover. It's gorgeous!), and I definitely suggest reading all three for both art, story and a badass baby. And if the have the time/money I'd definitely suggest giving volumes 1 and 2 of The Darkness a look.

user posted image
Angelus: Pilot Season #1

This one's a direct spinoff of First Born, but I have to say while I don't know if Top Cow does this every year, the idea behind the Pilot Season is genius. For those who don't know Top Cow brings out 5 titles, in this case Ripclaw, Cyblade, Velocity, Necromancer, and Angelus, and they give them a 'pilot' issue under the same pretense of a pilot tv episode and the fans vote for which one they'd like to see get a series and the top 2 are given a monthly series. Why doesn't DC do this? I'm sure Secret Six would have probably been picked up instead of Suicide Squad but anyway.

This issue was pretty much the classic formerly evil person trying to live a good life while having a symbiotic relationship with another entity. The thing I find most interesting about this is that the Angelus has always been ironically evil and the Darkness which should be evil is ironically good...more or less...he's pretty morally gray but he is the 'good guy' in his comic. So having someone with a power that's always been depicted as evil becoming a 'hero' in pretty interesting(ie. Harm becoming a good guy, :P). For those interested I'd definitely give the titles a browse and put in your vote, maybe DC will do something similar if Top Cow gets a big enough reaction.

And there you have it, my minions. For this past week at least. Let me know what you think.

Marx - December 23, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
And here we go with the comics from the week of Dec. 19. Not as many this week, which means less work for me! Woo!

user posted image
Shadowpact #20

Okay, the reason I picked out this issue was that it was a pretty fun issue. You won't know what's going on unless you read the previous couple but there are still some really funny bits. Or at least I found them funny. The art's a bit eh, but it's not horrid and the story makes up for it. I'd say the shining moments of the issue are Ragman and Nightshade's semi flirting(I swear that guy has the funniest moments with the females of that team), and the ending of Rex the wonder Dog and Blue Devil's conversation. Just hilarious.

Detective Comics #839 (The Return of R'as Al Ghul 7 of 7)

And here's the end of The Return of R'as Al Ghul saga. You'll never guess who returned at the end. :P Anyway, as far as the comics as a whole go...total browse. Short of Robin genuinely being tempted to use the Lazurus Pit to bring back his loved ones, I didn't really care about the majority of this. I mostly saw the 7 issues as a way of saying "For those of you who don't know! Hey you! The one who doesn't read Batman on a regular basis! He has a teenage son now! Yeah! With Talia!" And I just said it, so there you go. Um...that's about it really...

user posted image
Batman and The Outsiders #3

This one came out last week...or at least it should have, I'm not sure. But anyway as some of you know, I was really looking forward to this issue. Mainly because Batgirl, whose been written out of character so much this past year that I was sure they were going to kill her off, is a member of the team. I'd even go far as to say her use in this issue would decide whether I bought it monthly or not.
...
Eh, I might buy it anyway. It's still a pretty cool comic and I love the art. But if you're a Batgirl fan and that's the only reason you're getting the issue...save your money. She's in one page. You can just read it in the comic book store and move along...Hell, I'll save you the trouble. Though as far as one page appearances go, at least she was in character and not randomly monologuing. And if I wanted to be really picky I'd say they forgot the bullet holes. :P

Now we move along to Marvel!

user posted image
What If? Civil War #1

For any curious, no I didn't actually read any of Civil War. Didn't really interest me and I was already pretty crossover'd out. Heard it wasn't all that good anyway. But hey, compressing the majority of that into one issue in What If form? Totally awesome. As someone who didn't read any of Civil War it was pretty easy to follow and storywise and is a great read. Though I will admit I'm a bit of a sucker for alternate realities. I totally loved both stories within it and do actually recommend this one. Also if you find it hilarious to have Stark find out that words that can be contained in 3 speech bubbles would have changed the way the entire war went down, then it's beyond awesome.

And moving along to Top Cow!

user posted image
The Darkness v3 #1

Now as some of you might know, I'm a total fan of "The Darkness" and even last week was geeking out like whoa about a new volume starting up. My rating for the new issue thus far? It's okay, but it's also the first issue so there's a lot of setup. And I swear the guy gets insane promotions! In the first volume, he's a mafia hitman, in the second volume, he's leader of the mafia, and now he's the leader of a country. If there's a "Darkness v4", he might end up ruling a continent, after that we're looking at "World Ruler: Jackie Estacado". Anyway, the art's great and totally fits the style, and it looks like it could be a great story as well. I'll give it a couple of issue before I make a final judgement.

And there you have it! Was a little more broad in comic book companies and even had a don't buy on there. See you next week! ...Well...in this section anyway.

Marx - January 6, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
For those who want to know I actually did have a review for the past two weeks. But in the process of previewing my post I lost the whole thing and it's too much to be bothered typing it all again so here's a really blunt version.

Countdown Arena 4: Rocks
Green Lantern/Sinestro Secret Files and Origins: Also rocks
Teen Titans GO 50: Might be turning into a JLU like series which could be really cool.
Supergirl 25: Is seriously confusing and has been for the past 3 issues, giving it one more shot before I drop it.
52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen (5 of 6): Incredibly meh, only keep reading it because I'm curious how it'll end.

Amazing Spider-Man 545: Done well and will have you yelling at the comic. "PETER YOU'RE A #%*&ING IDIOT!"

Angel- After the Fall 2: The continuation of the series finale of Angel, definite recommendation for any whose a fan of the show.

Oh that reminds me I was going to add another section.

From time to time, I read random back issues of things that pique my curiousity. Originally I loved Gen 13, so when I heard they were cancelling the series and making a new team, I didn't bother to give it a chance as a way of boycotting the idea. Now that the original 5 is back, I was reading Wikipedia and the third volume caught my attention (Volume 1=Origin, Volume 2=Ongoing series, Volume 3=New Team, Volume 4=Reboot of the original team)
user posted image
Gen 13 v3

Okay, so I was wrong with this one. The series is actually pretty cool. I'm up to issue 12 of 16 I believe and I read most of those throughout two days which I wouldn't do if it was actually sucky. I'm apparently a sucker for teen superhero books and this is a pretty good addition. Though I will say having identical twins is a little confusing when you get the fact that one girl likes one twin but is connected by her powers to the other twin. And another girl is starting to like the other twin and it's just gaaah, the confusion. But other than that the art's great and they use new takes on some powers(which is always a good thing in team books) so it's definitely worth at least a browse. I know I'll be adding it to my list of comics I want to get.

Marx - January 13, 2008 05:32 AM (GMT)
And here's hoping I don't lose this post as well. Here are the reviews for Jan. 9.

Salvation Run #3

Yes, Salvation Run's on the list again, because once again it was awesome. The basics of this issue was are you gonna side with the Joker or Lex(still no explanation of how he arrived there twice). Though what really did it for me in this issue is the effect the planet's gradually having on most of the villains. You take people who are for the most part insane and put them in a hopeless situation and you've got a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Also, a line so great I made it my screen name:

"Psimon? But he was so obnoxious! And that visible brain of his made me anxious. I always felt like it was...throbbing at me."

Joker, you are the man.

user posted image
Infinity Inc. #5

This one's the end of the "Luthor's Monster" storyline. And after reading 5 issues of this title...all I can say is...meh. The art? Meh. The story? Meh. The characters? Meh. Really, besides a few points, nothing really stands out about this comic to me. Like 4 Horsemen comic (note how that's not even on the list this week) it's not horrible, but it's just not really jumps out at me. Total meh.

To Wildstorm.

user posted image
Gen 13 #16

And the first time the 4th volume of Gen 13 makes my list. Now I can't say I wasn't ecstatic when I realized the original 5 in Gen 13 were getting rebooted, but I do think the original series was better. Though this volume is pretty good, just doesn't have as much of the fun that I really liked about the original. But to this issue. It was a little meh-y, but unlike Infinity Inc and 4 Horsemen, I am intrigued enough that I want to read the next issue. The premise is cool enough. Following superheroes around with cameras without their knowledge. You know it's going to hit the fan once they realize what's going on. So I'm cool with being patient enough for the you know what to hit the fan. Oh and the art's great.

Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash #3

A horror comic? Reviewed by moi? It's true. Picked this one up originally because I was just curious if it was a sequel to Freddy vs. Jason. Turned out it was, woo for my awesome deductive skills. This story's staged after the movie. Don't know who Ash is. Doesn't really matter. If he did exist before this comic was made they did a nice little summary about him. The basic premise is Freddy's trying to get the Necronomicon to get his body back and using Jason to do it and Ash is the good guy(with a chainsaw hand) stopping them. Is this scary? Nah, read it close to midnight and I think I'll be sleeping just fine. So if you want to be scared, not really the comic for you. But if you find a guy being killed by getting his head shoved through the grates of a shopping cart funny? Totally the comic for you.

Onto Marvel!

user posted image
The Amazing Spider-Man #546

Now we move on to the idiot, Peter. Of course he's already made the idiotic decision and reality's gone through a reboot because of it. At least in Peter's case. *cough-COPOUT-cough* *cough-SERIOUSFRIGGINCOPOUT-cough* *clears throat* Sorry about that. Need some cough drops. But anyway, due to Peter's deal, he now literally has a new life (and needs webshooters again *thumbs up*). I read this one out of sheer curiousity and as someone who didn't actually read Spiderman until the "Back in Black" arc, it's pretty easy to catch up on from here. They even give you a 2 page summary of everything at the end. As for how good it is? If I was a fish I'd definitely be giving the worm a hard look. Not quite biting it, but I might. Also, there's a nice little twist at the end. So I'd definitely recommend this as at least a browse.

PS: Aunt May rocks.

user posted image
The Hulk #1

This one's also a first. My love for World War Hulk's well documented so like Spiderman, I got this one out of pure curiosity. You know how if you wanted to actually see Batgirl in Outsiders 3 there was no real point? Well if you heard about the red Hulk and want to see him...just look at the cover...he's not actually in it. But you know what? The selling point for this one is Hulk using a gun. I don't know about anyone else, but I personally find the thought of Hulk using a gun hilarious. Not "YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!" hilarious but still pretty funny. And once again, I'm giving that worm a hard look.

And finally we look at Image!

user posted image
Dynamo 5 #10

I do believe this is the only Image title I read and it's because the idea behind it piqued my curiosity. For those who don't know, think of it this way. Superman is a total playa. In fact he sleeps around all the time. That's even how he dies. Lois finds out about this and realizes that he has a couple of kids, each with one power that he had and she makes a team out of them. That's basically what Dynamo 5's about. Switch Superman with Captain Dynamo and Lois with Maggie Warner. Wasn't disappointed with the title either. It's pretty entertaining, and I like that they didn't do the usual body type matches the powers deal(as in the physically biggest member is the telepath and the girl is the super strong one). As for this issue specifically? Not too much happens, but there's a lot of good interaction between the characters which is just fine by me, especially since it's leading into a new storyline.

Marx's Random Read
If anyone has a better idea for a better name for this section (<.< Assuming anyone's reading it) let me know and I'll consider it, but for now I'm sticking with this. As some of you know Infinite Crisis is the first crossover I bothered reading (I read the year One Million one but that was way after it was over because the tpb caught my eye). Last Laugh's one I just read out of curiosity as well because the Joker's one of my favorite villains and I just wanted to know what happened in it.

user posted image
Last Laugh

Ever wonder what the Joker does when he feels like he genuinely has nothing to lose? Well after finding out he has a terminal tumor in his brain he does just that. Figuring he's going to die anyway he wants to take as many people with him as possible and breaks out countless villains after making sure they get gassed and made into mini Jokers. Like any Joker based story there's a lot of laughs in this (His 'To Do' list had me in tears), as well as a lot of serious intense bits. After all it is predominantly a Batman and co comic. It's also gives a nice sense of nostalgia seeing Blue Beetle still alive and all. Tugs at the ol' heart strings. I'd say a definite read for fans of the Joker.

NM Savant - January 13, 2008 08:38 AM (GMT)
You............don't know who Ash is?!?

YOU MUST BE REHABIBILATATED!!! TO THE SCREENING ROOM WITH THE CHAINS AND CRAP!!!!

Marx - January 13, 2008 12:43 PM (GMT)
So...you mean he wasn't made specifically for that comic? ;)

mad-libbs - January 13, 2008 02:03 PM (GMT)
*dies a little inside* HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO ASH IS!!!??? EVIL DEAD! ARMY OF DARKNESS! BRUCE F***ING CAMPBELL!!! Why do you think Sam Raimi gives him parts in all his movies!! Cuz Bruce Campbell is THE MAN! *goes off on a rant ripping her hair out and screaming about the injustice of it all*

Army of Darkness!!!!! click or DIE!

And just because I find it hilarious, click here too!

Marx - January 13, 2008 06:06 PM (GMT)
Ooh I know him. Or the actor anyway. Mainly knew him as Otolocus on Xena/Hercules and the random guy in the Spider Man movies. Never seen the movie though. Is definitely on my list, looks hilarious. I always wondered where the "This is my boom stick!" line came from.

NM Savant - January 13, 2008 09:08 PM (GMT)
Go buy it now or your gonna suffer what happened to Sinestro, Arkillo and Paralax.

Justin knows of what I speak.

Marx - January 13, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
lol I'll see what I can do. Should be able to find it online somewhere. Very rare that I buy a movie without seeing it first.

Marx - January 19, 2008 07:57 PM (GMT)
And the week of Jan. 16 wasn't actually that comic heavy. For me anyway. In fact this week's going to be almost all DC.

Countdown to Final Crisis #15

Despite the fact that I do read this title every week, you might have noticed that it's never on the list. And that's because I usually try to stick to exceptionally good or bad. And Countdown, like 52 for the most part is very meh. And I define meh by if I'd want to read it repeatedly...which I wouldn't. Originally I was going to get the tpbs for these but after reading them once I didn't actually care anymore. Which I'd say is the problem with having a comic come out every week instead of once a month. You have to stretch out the stories so long that you basically get a...well... Dragon Ball Z episode. Where nothing really happens for most of it, and then a lot happens in random issues.

With that said, it's nearing the end, so a lot of the storylines that have been boring me for most of the year are starting to come to a head, so they are starting to get better. But over all...I really can't give this more than a browse so you'll know what's going on.

user posted image
Justice League of America #17

Okay, first thing I'll say about this issue is, you know how in Outsiders 2, Batgirl joined and was only in one page of Outsiders 3? Yeah, Firestorm, who joined in JLA 16 isn't in this issue at all. That seems to be a trend lately in the DC team titles. They keep having people join teams and then not actually having them in the book. Anyway, enough of my mini rant. There's nothing...exceptional about this comic, though I do rather like the art. But the stories are pretty entertaining. And I'm liking the format of not just having the whole team together beating up the bad guys all the time. It's basically multiple stories involving 2 or 3 members.

And it seems like it's going to be crossing over with the Salvation Run storyline, which I'm pretty cool with. Also, another thing I'm cool with. The use of Vixen. When I saw that she was going to be on the JLA roster, I figured it was rather pointless and they did it purely because she was in the JLU cartoon. But with the power change she's going through it's rather intriguing. Considering Animal Man's going through issues with the 'morphogenic field' as well, I'm curious if it's going to be explained exactly what's going on with it. But anyway, I'm intrigued in the title and do recommend it for at least a browse.

Wonder Girl #5

This issue is basically the Teen Titans(with 2 old school YJers) vs. the Female Furies. Is this a Doomsday/Superman level fight? Nah, but it's still pretty entertaining especially if you count the Young Justice nostalgia for the YJ fans. So if you're not a YJ, Teen Titans, or Wonder Girl fan I wouldn't really suggest the title...but if you're not a fan, why would you read it in the first place? O.o Also this is going along with the whole death of the New Gods storyline for those keeping up with that.

user posted image
Booster Gold #6

Yeah, yeah, I know. Good ol' Booster's been on the list every single time it's come out. And you know why? It's....awesome! As someone whose not the hugest Booster Gold fan, I gotta say this title just gets better and better and has me geeking out about characters that I originally was pretty meh over. Johns, you keep this up and I'll really rethink about my hate for you. Anyway, as you can see from the cover this issue's centering around Booster trying to save Blue Beetle from being killed. Whether he succeeds or not, I'm not going to tell you. But this one's a definite, must read for Booster fans, Blue Beetle(any of them) fans and especially ones who think they're meh so they, like me can be proven wrong.

And that's it for DC, we move to IDW.

Angel: After the Fall #3

First and foremost...Illyria fights a dragon. I think that's all I really have to say about this issue. It's not that long of a fight, but it's still pretty cool. Don't know who Illyria is? Most likely means you didn't really watch Angel the show all that much. Considering that this title is a continuation of the series finale of the show, they don't do that well with describing who the characters are if you don't already know. But if you do know who they are, it's pretty entertaining.

The basic plot is that Los Angeles has gone to Hell...literally. Demons control different parts of it. That alone has my attention and curiosity. Might I also say that at the end of issue 3 there's one Hell of a cliffhanger(pun intended). Definite read for Angel fans.

This section was recommended and I'll probably alternate between this section and "Marx's Random Read" and might have another section or two. Depends on how it goes.

Divine Right: The Adventures of Max Faraday

For my first addition to section I add what I think is my all time favorite series. For a number of reasons this one just stood out to me the most. The art's by Jim Lee, so needless to say the details in some of it are mindboggling. And as for the actual story, I can just relate to it really well and because of that I think I've just always loved it. The basic premise is a C average pizza delivery boy ends up accidentally downloading the power of creation into himself and becoming a god. I've been searching the web for years and I've never been able to download godlike powers. *pouts* But other than that small bit, I liked everything about the series. Art, story, characters, and there's even some nice guest appearances by Gen 13 and the WildCATS.

Note: It took me years to get the first couple issues. I'd highly suggest getting the trade paperback which puts the whole story in two books than looking up the individual issues, or even the mini trade paperbacks that have 2 issues in them. Though if you're up for mega searching then knock yourself out lol.

NM Savant - January 19, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
BOOSTER IS THE SHIZNIT!!!!

Sorry. Force of habit when I hear about him. Really though. Booster is being handled great ever since Countdown to Infinite Crisis.

mad-libbs - January 20, 2008 05:48 AM (GMT)
*points and shouts at Illyria* a dragon? A DRAGON!!!? so wait, I remember seeing a dragon in the series finale but damn! she took that thing on all by herself, sweet! I <3 Amy Acker.

NM Savant - January 20, 2008 08:19 AM (GMT)
Spike is better.

Marx - January 20, 2008 01:50 PM (GMT)
Spike's in it too. Kind of Illyria's boy toy in fact(in a non naughty way unfortunately for him lol). And yes that's the dragon she takes on by herself, had me geeking out a little. While I liked Fred better, Illyria's still pretty damn cool.

And yes, Booster does indeed rock.

Countdown to Final Crisis #14

Oh I totally see the irony. Just last week I put a review saying how dull this series is for the most part and a week later they put out a pretty cool issue. <.< I think they read this and wanted to make a liar out of me...or it's as I said, the issues are getting better. There's also a nice little nod to Kingdom Come in this issue. Even Jason Todd's pretty cool. Yeah, you heard me. I said Jason Todd was cool...really...the way he takes out the Superwoman person...niiiiice. He's like...the Raphael of the batclan. Though I did notice that this is the first countdown in awhile that focussed completely on one, single story. Might be a good idea if they stick with it. Also, this is the first Countdown in aaaaaaaaaaaaages that actually has me looking forward to the next issue. Kudos!

If memory serves, this actually came out last week, but I just got it this week. For the most part this is a pretty grim issue but it does have it's gags which are pretty funny. Oddly enough the reason I even got into this title is because of Misfit. Someone told me there was a new Batgirl so I picked it up and kept with it. For the most part I've liked it and it was really easy to keep up with considering I've yet to read any of the back issues and I have no problem whatsoever following the plotlines. Though I will say I couldn't really bring myself to care about the Killer Shark plot because I don't actually know a lot about Lady Blackhawk, but either way the issue's pretty entertaining. But last but not least, BOP is following suit with the Outsiders and having one of my favorite characters (since I read Day of Vengeance anyway) joining the team. Here's hoping she's in the next issue for more than one page!

PS: This is the only DC comic in recent memory to have me laugh at the summary for the next issue.

Teen Titans #55

This is a definite first on this list not because I don't review Teen Titans, but because I always post my reviews separately here. But upon further inspection my last review for this issue was more rant than review so I figured I'd do my review for Smallville...er...I mean Teen Titans 55 here. In short...this comic made my brain hurt. Really, I know teenagers are supposed to be moody but come on, how can just about every single Titan have moody issues? I've noticed that I find myself going "I'll be glad once this storyline's over so they can pick it up with the next one."...I think I've done that with the last 3 arcs... Why do I keep reading Teen Titans you ask? *sigh* It's just entertaining enough to keep me hooked...damn them...

On to Marvel.

Amazing Spider-Man #548

I'll probably jump on the bandwagon as far as reviews for Spider Man have gone lately. In case you haven't read any of them, the basic deal is that this title is totally entertaining and everything you'd want from a Spider Man comic...but One More Day still sucks. All the things that I'm liking about the comic could have been done with Peter and Mary Jane still being married. But as I said, this comic's great and sure enough I'll be reading it next issue.

Onto Zenescope!

Return to Wonderland #5

Like BOP, this actually came out a little while ago but it took me awhile to get it since I can only find these online, they're always sold out in the comic book stores by the time I get there if they sell them in the first place. As it's well known, I have an odd sense of humor and I totally love reading violence as long as it's done the right way. And I'd say this title does it the right way. The basic plot is that Alice has gone insane from her time in Wonderland and now her daughter Calie was sent there by the white rabbit, and it is definitely not the happy go lucky Wonderland that's in the Disney movie.

In fact I can't stress this enough. This is NOT a children's comic. This has everything from graphic murder with intestines on the floor to BDSM to Alice petting a dead, rotting rabbit to the Cheshire Cat eating people. It does have it's funny parts though and as I said, I totally love and recommend it...if you're into twisted takes on things. In fact I'm kinda geeking out about what their takes on Sinbad and the Little Mermaid are gonna be.

Side note: For some reason my copy of issue 5 was kinda pixilated...weird.

And finally we go back to IDW.

Zombies vs. Robots. vs. Amazons #2

Yeah...I totally picked this one up purely because of the title. And damn if this didn't make me wish I wasn't so curious. Honestly...this made my brain hurt more than Teen Titans. Not for the same reasons though. First off, I read Z v. R v A 1 so the second issue would make sense and within the first couple pages my eyes were bleeding because of the art. Some people might like it, but me personally it irked me more with each page. And the plot was just kinda...blah...you'd think with a title like that you couldn't really go wrong. Hell! There's a zombie Minotaur! How do you go wrong with a Zombie Minotaur!?(Though I will say that the Zombie Minotaur going "MOOEEEAT!" was pretty funny) But...eh...bleeding eyes and not really caring about the plot. But you know what? The 3rd issue's the last one...so I'm most likely going to pick it up out of obligation and curiosity once more. Oh my poor brain...don't think there'll be enough of it for the zombies to eat after my self induced torture of reading another issue. @.@

And apparently this is a sequel to Zombies vs. Robot...oh the horror...

Kingdom Come

This title was suggested to me by Justin and because of that I'll definitely be ending this week's review on a good note because hot damn, this comic was awesome. How awesome you ask? Well I rate a comic as beyond awesome if at some point I'm reading it and I step back with a pause...take a huge gasp...and go..."...duuuuuuuuuuuude..." And this comic definitely did that. The basic gist of the plot is that its in the future where Superman has given up being a superhero for a variety of reasons I won't spoil for you and the world basically has gone to Hell with metahumans out the wazoo. Between the art, characters, and the story from beginning to end, I was totally on the edge of my seat and considering I just read this two days ago, there are a good couple of references to it in current DC continuity from Jason Todd's new outfit to the Superman that just joined the JSA.

I would definitely say if you have not read this comic, to read it as soon as you possibly can. So you can go..."..duuuuuuuuude..." or whatever your equivalent to that might be. ;)

And we're back for Jan. 30! Do note that with Lani visiting for the next two weeks it's highly unlikely that I'll update until Feb. 20.

Trials of Shazam #11

This title is a little annoying due to the fact that there are 12 parts and they rarely come out on a monthly basis. But I will say that when they do come out and you get over the shock, they're usually pretty good and I love the art. As for this issue specifically? Once one statement was said, I knew what was going to happen to be honest. But it was still pretty fun to read and the last issue(whenever it finally comes out) will entail the final fight between Freddy and Sabina. And I think it's pretty obvious whose going to win that fight but I'm kinda digging Sabina so I hope they keep her around. Definitely worth a read.

Countdown to Final Crisis #13

I know I know! 3rd straight week that Countdown's been on the list. But what can I say? This issue's won me over again. Note that once again, they stuck to one single story which they did well. And I won't lie. This issue had me sold from the moment Superman Prime yelled "I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU TO DEATH!!" Oh I died laughing. I don't know whose idea it was to make him more immature as Superman Prime than he was as Superboy Prime but I'm loving it. Once again Jason Todd aka Red Robin was fairly likable and the fight between Superman Prime and Monarch was not only awesome, but it's inevitable conclusion? Sweeeeeet!

Black Adam #6

This has been another comic that I've looked forward to every month. Ever since IC, I think Black Adam's totally been one of my favorite anti heroes. In fact I'd totally say that him and Sabina should hook up and have psycho little Marvel babies. But anyway, this issue's the conclusion and it wrapped up some questions I've been having since Adam gave his powers to Mary. In fact it rather wraps up why he did that in the first place. Also...the secret word...genius! Pure frickin genius! The only thing more genius is if he'd have had to keep that word to transform permanently. I also liked that they seemed to be going a really obvious route but swerved a different direction with it. Looking forward to what the repercussions for this is gonna be.

Countdown to Adventure #6

I'll be honest with you on this one as well. While I did like the main story and it had it's parts (the wives are really badass in this issue. Woo for girl power!), what had me in this issue was the Forerunner story. I've always liked the character but it was shown in this issue that she is so pimp!...Literally! Part of this issue had me laughing my bippy off, which automatically makes me give the comic a thumbs up.

Death of the New Gods #5

This issue's pretty okay. But really the main reason it's on the list isn't so much the story, but because it's finally started answering some questions. While you don't know for sure whose physically killing the New Gods...for certain anyway...you do find out whose the big honcho in charge of it all and why said honcho is doing it. And I'm curious where they're going with this so they've got me continually reading it. Not sure I'd want to read it multiple times though.

Batman #673

A Batman issue, you ask? I know, I'm full of surprises this week. But actually I read this issue because it said that it explored an aspect of Batman's life that hadn't been explained since it was rearranged in Infinite Crisis. Basically how Batman got his revenge on Joe Chill(who killed his parents), which was actually pretty cool. Though while they were telling that story they were blending in things that were currently happening and it was a little...confusing. But still a Hell of a lot more coherent than Supergirl.

This was a DC heavy week but there are some more companies that made the list as well. First to Wildstorm...yeah I know it's still technically DC but still...

Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash #4

The main reason this one's on the list again is once again I love the art style and how well it works with gore. Also, most of the issues have been pretty Jason heavy and while I do love me some Jason, this issue definitely focussed more on Freddy which is always a good thing. And with the cliffhanger at the end, gotta say I'm definitely looking forward to the next issue.

Onto Marvel with another first on the list!

X-Men #207

Normally I don't read X-Men, in fact the last time I did was because of the crossover with World War Hulk. But I heard what happened at the end of this issue and figured what the hey, curiosity got the better of me. And this time I'm pretty glad it did. The issue was pretty easy to follow since I know the more popular characters and they give a nice little summary of what's happened so far in the Messiah Complex arc. Since most of the issue is a big fight between all the teams of X-Men and the Marauders it's pretty cool, and as for the ending it's okay though I was kind of like..."Hasn't this happened before?", but I'm curious what it's going to lead to.

And to Avatar!

Black Summer #5

This comic has kind of been up and down for me. At issue 0 it had me beyond belief then issues 1 and 2 kind of bored me into dropping it, then I heard 3 was way awesome. Which it totally was, and issue 4 backed it up but halfway through issue 5 I was thinking..."Oh geez, they're doing it again." but it picked up on the second half of it. For those who haven't heard of this, the basic gist is that The Guns which were augmented superheroes ended up disbanning and the one who continued to superhero went crazy and killed the President and held a press conference about it(though his logic behind it was pretty sound).

So now the remaining Guns have to deal with the government going after them in case they go crazy as well as trying to track down the crazy member themselves. There's also a nice little plot twist in this issue. Though do note that this title is very political, and one of the reasons it bored me sometimes is because some of the dialogue comes across as reading a text book.

And finally, Zenescope!

Grimm Fairy Tales #20

As I said with Return to Wonderland, I love the twists that these stories have with the original fairy tales. This story actually did something slightly different. It had the twisted story along with what actually happened to a character at the same time. Literally, every single panel was alternating between the two stories that were telling the same basic story in two different ways. Sound kind of confusing? Yeah, it was a little but it was still pretty intriguing. And I'd definitely recommmend the book for anyone who likes seeing twisted versions of fairy tales.

And there you have it! A pretty good list this week I'd have to say.

Marx - February 28, 2008 03:53 AM (GMT)
Okay, so this one's been a long time coming. But for that reason I do have a little more variety and definitely more quantity in the titles. More DC than anything else as usual though. Anyway, here's my list for the best and worst of the past 3 weeks.

Countdown to Final Crisis #11

As I said before, as Countdown gets closer to the end it's been getting better. Still stand firmly by my stance that they should just make these 6 issue miniseries at most considering most of them tend to be 'meh'. But anyway, I will say it has me very intrigued since every plotline....as in every single frickin plotline no matter how separate it seemed before has all converged on Apokalips. Since I'm a huge fan of Apokalips it shall keep my attention.

Salvation Run #4

Okay, you know how some comics don't deliver on what the cover promises? Sweet mercy bejeebus this is not one of them. What you see is exactly what you got. And I don't know about anyone else but seeing Grodd fight Mallah was awesome enough...but having Grodd beat Mallah with Brain!? So beyond awesome. While that's my favorite part of the issue there's still plenty to keep you entertained though I'm starting to wonder if this is just a way to kill off a lot of villains ala 'Last Laugh'.

Batman and the Outsiders #4

Batgirl's in it for more than one page! Anyway for a less biased review, I really did like it and there's a very good chance I'll end up getting this title monthly. The art's great and I'm getting into the story and the characters as well. Loved the Batgirl/Green Arrow interaction. Now with my praises said...let me get to the introduction of 'Remac'...or should I say Indigo II since it has the exact same frickin origin. I'm just waiting for it to start flirting with Metamorpho...

Catwoman #76

Okay, I usually don't read Catwoman. In fact I'm sure this is the first issue I've read...well technically 75 was so I'd know what was going on but honestly....this issue can be summarized in four words. 'Catwoman meets The Matrix' That's basically what happens and I'm lovin' it. Totally wondering where they're going with it and it's also pretty easy to catch up on if you don't read Catwoman normally. Would definitely recommend the issue.

Gotham Underground #5

You know how in Salvation Run it totally delivered on the cover? This one's the exact opposite since no one on that cover is in the issue whatsoever. It's all about the villains, which was pretty cool actually. But I'm not gonna lie to you. The main selling point of this issue was the format. Instead of the usual comic book panels, all of them were done in puzzle pieces. Personally I think it looked really awesome, there's even a girl whose face you never see because the puzzle piece for her face is always missing which I think was a pretty innovative way to keep her identity secret. Oh, and the Joker's great as always. Heh heh, "There's a dead girl in my soup."

Justice Society of America #12

I think JSA's a first on the list as well. Not because it didn't merit being put on, but because there hadn't been a new issue of it since I started doing these. But when it updates, I've enjoyed it pretty much...well...despite my confusion as to why exactly they have Kingdom Come(Earth-22) Superman joining...but eh...I can roll with it. Here's my only issue with the comic. The current roster is: Green Lantern(Alan), The Flash(Jay), Hawkman, Power Girl, Superman(E-22), Mr. Terrific, Liberty Bell, Dr. Midnight, Hourman, Jakeem Thunder, Cyclone, Stargirl, Wildcat, Wildcat II, Damage, Starman, Citizen Steel, and Judo Master....and they do a recruitment drive during this issue...just how many frickin members do they want. As it is I only have a basic feeling for most of the the characters, especially the newbies. Just think they should focus on the members they have without consistently adding new ones.

And onto Marvel!

Runaways #29

I almost had to pinch myself when I saw this one. I love Runaways to death but it honestly comes out so sporadically that I find myself completely forgetting what happened in the last issue. But enough complaining. For those who don't know anything about Runaways, it's basically a bunch of kids who found out their parents were supervillains and stood up against them and are forced to...you guessed it...run away. It's a great title, written by Joss Whedon for those who don't know.

As for this issue. The art's great as usual, and I loved the character interaction. Also find it awesome how they've been for the most part keeping this title out of the whole Superhuman Registration thing. In fact they're time travelling at the moment. Not the most interesting thing they could be doing but it's still worth a read.

Hulk #2

I have to give 3 props to this issue. Prop 1 goes to actually having the red Hulk in it and kicking butt. Prop 2 goes to keeping the red Hulk mysterious even with all the attacks. And the final prop is to not going the obvious route about who he was. Kudos! Not too much to say about this issue. Not that it was bad or anything, I loved it. Just pretty straight forward really. You like seeing the Hulk beat up people here's your comic.

Onto Broadsword!

Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #48

Why no cover pic for this one you ask? Well, Tarot covers tend to be a little...risque and I decided to play it safe than sorry. Now those who know me know that I love Tarot right? Even went through a phase where I did just about all the main characters in microhero form. So this should be a good review right?
...um...no... To be blatantly honest I haven't really enjoyed Tarot since the last Christmas special. And to give you a hint...there wasn't a 2007 Christmas Special...yeah....Short version, if you're into it, get an issue around 41 or lower. Here's the long version.

The gist of this title is pretty much what you'd think. It's about Tarot, whose a witch living in Salem and ends up dealing with a variety of things. Now as for what I like about it. Or liked I should say. Was oddly enough not just because the main characters have boobs almost literally 3 times the size of their heads. But the story telling was done well and the cast interacted really well with each other. They even made Skeleton Man a very interesting character and while I like the guy, as far as superheroes go...by himself he'd belong on GLI(I'll get into GLI later). But I love how he finds himself in really bad/really good situations, I swear the guy gets drugged up so much I'm surprised he's not in rehab.

I also love the humor. It's very dark and twisted which as you all know, I totally dig. One of the villains was a Gingerbread woman who ate people as a sign of affection. I'm not even going to get into her reasoning behind it but it really makes you wonder exactly what the heck's going through the writer's head, which I love. Now I know what you're thinking...if I love it so much what's been wrong with the past 8 issues? Well...all that stuff I said I liked? With the exception of the art, it's all gone. The issues have just been Tarot(not my favorite character to begin with) either mentally whining about how nobody understands her since she's a witch or that as a witch she is all powerful...you can see how that would get old after awhile.

And as for the nudity, which started at the first Christmas special...don't get me wrong, I love nudity and it's drawn very well but...if I'm reading a comic and not porn I do kind of want a reason behind it. I'll give an example in quite possibly the worst arc "The Witch Key", which was almost the most recent one btw. Tarot ends up being kidnapped and stripped almost immediately because the Bleeding Man(who bleeds consistently from every orfice), wanted to look for the "Witch Key" on her...okay I'll buy that. She escapes and is therefore still naked. I'll buy that. She finds some cloth and makes a skimpy little bikini. One page later a troll threatens to take her by force so she takes off the bikini, says "Do you think you could handle me?" and it runs off scared. And seeing this, she realizes that her nudity gives her power....yeah... I was hoping the new arc featuring Raven Hex(my fave character) would be better but once again it's just an issue of inner monologue that sums up to "I'm evil. Muwahahahaha." Oh and there's random nudity.

I could keep ranting but...let's just leave it at...it's bad....and I'm only continuing to read it in the hopes that the character interaction, side characters, and humor actually return to the comic eventually.

Okay, so I found this series because I was looking of random things on Wikipedia and I ended up looking up 'Comic Book Deaths' and when I found out that some spoofed the idea by having someone die in every issue, naturally I had to jump on it and the first thing I found was GLA: Misassembled and I must say I've never loved a sucky team so much. It had me hooked from the point that Mr. Immortal decided he'd become a superhero and was killed immediately. And Grasshopper...oooh poor Grasshopper. Anyway, if you're into goofy 4th string superheroes, you must check out this comic.

Angel: After the Fall #4

Once again I rather liked this issue. As you'll probably hear from most fans of both the Buffy and Angel comics Buffy Season 8 is an A+, and Angel after the Fall's a solid B. You find out a little more information as to what happened in the big brawl in the finale. You also find out what's happened with Lorne! Though I have noticed that they do tend to just throw in guest stars just to make you go "Ooo! I know who that is!" Might be nice if they did it more gradually. But I can deal. I'm still very much looking forward to how Angel's going to win the big fight given his particular handicap. As usual, definitely worth a look for fans of the show.

Um...yeah...that was about it. But worry not for I was also looking into some other series that I'll be trying to catch up on.

The Sword

I've just started reading this title, so far only gotten through the first 2 issues and I gotta say I'm kinda diggin it. The basic plot is a paraplegic girl comes across this mysterious sword which gives her special abilities including being able to walk again. I do find it fairly interesting that the first issue was mostly action and the second was mostly information. I heard that that's been pretty consistent throughout the series, which I suppose I can deal with as long as the info doesn't get too boring.

The Umbrella Academy

Hm, I'm kind of on the fence about this one. Do note that I've literally only read the first issue. It's intriguing enough that I'm willing to give the other 5 a shot especially since I've only heard good things about it. In this one 43 children were born at the same time randomly without the women even originally being pregnant. Someone searched them out and was able to find 7 and made a group out of them to save the world. They have numbers instead of names so I'm still trying to separate one from the other but as I said, I've only read the first issue, which left me fairly curious to keep reading.

Hack/Slash: The Series

And my personal favorite of the 3, Hack/Slash. I heard this one described as Buffy with more boobs. That was all I needed to hear to give it a try, though I personally haven't seen that much in the chesticles area, I see it as Buffy if she were goth, which is a friggin awesome idea I'd say. I've gotten through the first 3 issues of the series and after I catch up I'll look up the one shots that happened before the ongoing series. If anything won me over it was how literally the first thing you see in issue 1 is Cassie(the main heroine) getting tortured by having her toes slowly cut off one by one by a guy with no skin whose also trying to give her therapy. A torturer/therapist with no skin? Doesn't that just scream awesomeness?

Green Lantern #28

I must say as someone who just recently started reading Green Lantern comics regularly, I have been just enjoying them more and more. I was originally afraid that after Sinestro Corps, things would die down, but it's done anything but. While I'm still iffy about the Alpha Lanterns, they're definitely cool enough to keep me interested. And even without the new section of the Green Lantern Corp, in this issue you get to see the introduction of another color ring of the spectrum. We might have to wait awhile to finally see some black Lanterns but at the rate the comics are going the rest of the Rainbow Corps colors are going to be showing up pretty soon, and as I said before...or at least I think I said before. When everything hits the fan it's either going to be totally awesome or bleh, but considering how they handled the Sinestro Corps War I'd definitely keep picking up these issues.

PS: Is it bad that I like Sinestro more than Hal Jordan? O.o

Supergirl #27

Just when I think I'm out they keep pulling me back. Honestly, that's how I felt about this issue. The past couple of issues have been very...not good. But this one intrigued me enough that I'm rather curious to see the decision that Supergirl makes. She's going to sell her happiness and future daughter to Mephisto I just know it! No...wait..wrong company. Anyway, this issue involves a trip to the future which does indeed make me want to read the next issue, which is always a good thing. Though on a side note. Batman regardless of the form should always have ears, whether they're short ears, long ears, ears that go kinda sideways, doesn't matter but they always be there.

Countdown to Final Crisis #8

7 more weeks! 7 more weeks! Then...you know...DC will come up with another weekly comic that's for the most part meh-y. But anyway, the reason Countdown's on the list again is mostly because now not only has all the storylines converged on the same place but now it's all one storyline and considering I tend to like this comic better when it centers around one storyline, here's hoping the next 7 are going to be okay. Oh I also rather liked that Bizarro's origin is backwards. Witty.

Raven #1

You can't tell on that cover but on the actual cover it said "Finally in her own emo series." Gotta say that made me groan at first since my original opinion was, "Oh geeze, do we need another Teen Titan miniseries about an emo teenage girl?" But then I thought. "They wouldn't admit that! Especially on the cover, so it's gotta be a pun." :P Anyway, I was honestly looking forward to this miniseries and I can't really say I was blown away. But hey, it's the first issue and we got to actually see Raven going to school and using her civilian ID, which we never really got to see in Teen Titans. Anyway, it's interesting enough for me to give it a shot, but that's all I can really say about it.

Penance: Relentless #5

All I actually had to hear to read this issue is that the main character has spikes on the inside of his costume and that the self inflicted pain is what powers him and I was intrigued. Considering that I haven't read nor do I intend to read Civil War, nor did I have the slightest clue who Speedball was...and I didn't need to. It was very easy to catch on without knowing any backstory on the character. And as someone who has a well known love for the twisted, I might not even be able to wait for these 5 issues to go into TPB. Loved it that much. I just have to accept the fact that I love Marvel superheroes getting the everloving crap beaten out of them or being outsmarted. Loved it in World War Hulk and I loved it in Penance. You've just got a love an issue that has insane violence through the entire comic and still have you going "Awwwww." at the end. So yeah, you like action and violence? Pick it up! All 5 of them! Now!

Really I can't remember the last time I slapped myself in the head and said "Oh geeze..." this many times while reading a comic. It's like everything that I loved in Buffy's back in comic form. The only thing I regret is that we don't get to actually see these issues on tv. There's even a nice lesbian scene...and I'll give you a hint....Willow is in no way involved. Well I think I've made my point. If you're a fan of Buffy, I'm once again commanding you to buy it. Double now!

And here we go with the last installment of the Return to Wonderland series. Well at least until the prequels. This is another title that hasn't let me down...for the most part anyway. To be honest I thought the final revelation about what Wonderland was was kinda lame. I was rather hoping that Wonderland was so twisted because Alice's daughter was actually unconsciously twisting it or something but eh. Other than that the issue has been a great finale to the series and I look forward to the prequels.

But hey, the fact is is that it really is that good. It's great to see Booster and Beetle back together again and I'm curious how the repercussions of this are going to affect the Earth. Though I will say that this is one of 3 titles off the top of my head that are dealing with an Apolcaliptic. And each title has it happening for a different reason. Almost makes me think the Salvation Run planet's getting the better deal out of all of this. Anyway...

Death of the New Gods #7

A lot goes down in this issue. It actually does wrap up a good number of things and it does go true with what's on the cover and reveal who the killer of the New Gods is. Along with that, there's some really cool fight scenes and while I was iffy about the majority of this series, this issue totally got me. There were even some bits that made me laugh.

Metron: *after pointing out that they were in a distorted layer of reality* Emulate Superman and flow with it!
Mr. Miracle: For God's sake, Metron, Clark's not flowing with anything! He's unconscious!

...well I found that funny. Anyway, as I said, it ranged from making me laugh to making me literally go "...well...damn....the Source is a bastard..." And I very rarely use that word so that should tell you something. Dammit, I'm rooting for Darkseid(I probably would have anyway, but still...).

Shadowpact #23

Shadowpact Shadowpact Shadowpact...what am I going to do with you? The last couple of issues have been...okay, with enough funny bits to keep me interested, but this issue was definitely a change... There were a LOT of funny bits to keep me interested. In the very first page you have a little pink goblin running around shouting perverted obsinities at people. That's just genius! And Blue Devil's court case? Oh that's one of the most entertaining court cases I've read in awhile.

"Do you swear upon this book of dirty jokes to tell the truth, more or less, or have your insides eaten by voles for all eternity?"

And that's not even the funniest part of the case. Anyway, I'd definitely pick this up for the laughs if nothing else. The story is also pretty intriguing in the fact that I do genuinely want to get the next issue to see what's going to happen.

The Sword #6

I'll just say first that this title has the makings of a 'going to be on the list every month because it's so frickin good' book. Not the biggest fan of the art but it doesn't make my eyes bleed or anything. And I do believe I've said this before but I do find it interesting that it seems to alternate between awesome frickin action and lots of information. But I'm honestly cool with that. In this issue in fact, you finally learn about the sword's origins and why the baddies are after it. This is definitely a comic I'd be willing to buy every month so I'd definitely recommend you pick it up. But do pick it up from the beginning, without all the information it gives, I do think you might be a little lost later on.

Dark Ivory #1

Gothic chick wants to be a vampire? How could I not check this title out? And I wasn't disappointed. There's a lot of inner monologue and that didn't bother me in the slightest. Also, it's really hard to make me laugh at a joke with cutting yourself being the subject, but hey, kudos, they got a "Ha!" out of me. I liked the art a lot as well...and the main character's backpack...I totally want a black version of that... Anyway, I'd say give it a shot.

Avengers Fairy Tales

As you know from my countless praises of Zenoscope titles, I love me some twists on Fairy tales. So this was another book I just had to read as soon as I saw it. And while it didn't have the dark tone that the Zenescope books have, I was completely content with the much lighter feeling it gave off. And I loved the way the superhero costumes were redesigned into looking like the Lost Boys (though I did feel kinda slow by how long it took me to recognize Iron Man). I also love the storybook look that it gave off, I just think everything worked so well in it and I can't wait to come across some more Marvel Fairy Tales stories.

*sigh* And to Broadsword...

Army of Darkness/Xena #1

And from the ashes of Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash wrapping up we have this one and I've gotta agree with the title. 'Why not?' I see no reason. The fact that it had Bruce Cambell as both Ash and Autolycus just makes it all the better. Still haven't seen all of Army of Darkness yet, but these comics keep totally making me want to watch the movie and I've always been a Xena fan so I couldn't help but to pick this up. It's mainly set up, but it's done well enough that I'm totally fine with that and await issue 2 with much impatience!

Silver Surfer Requiem

I've heard a lot of hype about these four issue and I can say that everything from the story to the art merits this hype beyond words. I think even people who aren't even that big of a fan of Silver Surfer would still appreciate the way this was done. I think we'd all like to leave a lasting impression when we finally die and that's basically what these four issues are about. Silver Surfer's legacy and the changes he's made to everybody's life that he's come across. I honestly think this is one of the best comics of last year and there aren't that many gags (Spider Man's the only one who makes them and he's only in one issue) so for me to give it that much of a compliment, you should definitely check it out.

NM Savant - March 31, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
Ash and Xena? :o ......that'll be fodder for some jokes from Ash Da Perv.

mad-libbs - March 31, 2008 10:35 AM (GMT)
One does wonder if they will have Xena acknowledge the similarities, no the exact likeness of Ash and Autolycus, cause that would be awesome. And some what creepifying. Oh, Marx, I say check out other titles by Joss Whedon's team......I know you might be a tad lost if you pick up the firefly one I think it's called Serenity: Those Left Behind, but I think it's worth the read.... Oh and the new ones coming out, or have come out called Serenity: Better Days might be worth a browse.

Marx - March 31, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
lol Even better, Autolycus actually saw a mini-Ash and was talking to Xena about the "handsome little man" that he found. And cool, I'll check them out, I rather like Whedon's writing. That sounds familiar so I do think I heard they were pretty good.

Countdown to Final Crisis #4

It'll finally be over in two more weeks! *laughs maniacally* Anyway, you might notice the cover has dark Mary Marvel turning into regular Mary Marvel. Or it could be vice versa. *groans* Oh how I wish I could say that was just a symbolic cover. This is a bit of a spoiler but considering I'm about 2 weeks late with this review I figure I can rant a bit. Now I'll admit, I rpg all the time and I have had someone go down the dark path, become evil, become good again and end up becoming evil again. But dammit, it actually made sense! Mary becoming Dark Mary a second time just didn't carry the same weight as it did the first time. It happened too quickly. Now if Mary tried being good and felt herself still being dark and eventually found her way back to Darkseid, it would have been cool but Anakin's turn to the dark side in episode 3 had more backstory to it...yeah...you think about that.

As for the actual comic besides that part of the story. Once more, with it being one story with a bunch of heroes involved is grabbing me a little more than the multiple separate stories thing. Still can't wait for it to be over so we can actually get to Final Crisis already.

Trials of Shazam #12 (of 12)

Sweet Bejeebus, this is another one that I'm glad is finally done. Especially since this started at the end of 52! Which means these 12 issues have been spread out over 2 years. It was so hard to keep interested when there were sometimes 3 or 4 month intervals between between the issues. But anyway, we have the final showdown between Sabina and Freddy, with Freddy being backed up by the JLA and Sabina being backed up by demon hordes.

Oh and I give kudos for making me feel straight up dense at who Zeus was. Totally should have seen that coming and I'm sure there's someone out there who'd be telling me "...Wait...you didn't know it was him until that issue? What the Hell, man? How many comics do you read again?" Anyway, I think we all know that Freddy gets the power of Shazam because...you know...if he didn't that would be 2 years of comics wasted, but it was rather awesome to see him in full Shazam mode and I'd be tempted to get this once it comes out on tpb.

Titans #1

I'll start this off by saying I was never really that big of a Titans fan. To be honest I only got into it at all because the most recent incarnation had most of my favorite members from Young Justice and to this day I still say YJ was way better. But nonetheless for a mainly set up issue, I think this was done pretty well from the attacks to the art. I'll definitely be following it from here. Now to my problems with it, which will involve spoilers so don't read the second paragraph if you don't want to know.

First off, most of you know how I loved how they killed off an entire damn team in the Titans East special just because of how over the top that was. It kind of...burns out when you find out that Power Boy's the only one whose actually dead...kinda lame in my opinion. As much as I don't like comic book deaths, I think I'd have preferred it if they'd have killed all of them(though I would have been kind of 'Eh?' about killing Hawk and Dove, right after they were introduced). I can look past that though, I can even look past Donna's new costume (and believe me, I love black and red, but...her old one was fine...). But come frickin on! Trigon's back!? They can't think of a new villain or make a new Brother Blood or something? That's just so far beyond lame...my brain actually hurts from trying to figure out how unoriginal they could possibly get... Um, I think that's all I have to say about that.

Tiny Titan #3

I know, you're probably expecting me to rant about this too. But you know what? You won't hear one. I know I'm nowhere near in the comic's demographic but I'm actually liking Tiny Titans. It's getting better each issue. Though I will say it's kinda...creepy seeing Dr. Light as a teacher. It's like...if the poor kids who read this read Identity Crisis...yeah...but here's hoping they don't get scarred too badly lol. Oddly enough this didn't strike me as odd with Deathstroke. Go fig, considering Terra's probably one of his students...no...wait...theeeeere's the creepy factor. But since this is aimed at people who probably don't know Titans continuity it's all good.

Oh! And as you can see from the cover it has the Batman Returns penguins...I just can't stress how awesome that is. It's penguins with missles strapped to them! Just the most genius idea ever.

Justice Society of America #14

Don't have many bad things to say about this one either. In fact it's pretty similar to in the fact that what I do have to say is continuity wise. There's just a lot of Kingdom Come references that you just won't follow if you've never read it. Definitely not the kind of issue you can just pick up and know what's going on. But there is a pretty great fight scene with Gog and the last page is quite awesome if you get the reference. And I also give some props for actually making all of those members on the same team work. I was a bit worried that there'd be too many members to care about but as long as there's no more new members I think it could work.

Kick Ass #2

Woot! I have to say this is becoming one of my favorite titles of the month and there's only been two issues. I loved that a good half of this issue was our superhero wannabe having months of recovery from all the crap that happened to him in the first issue. This was just done so beautifully. But of course there wouldn't be a comic if he gave up completely. And that's where things got even more interesting. I think the quote that explained it all came from a bystander.

"Guys! Guys! You gotta get over here! Quick... There's a guy dressed like a superhero fighting Puerto Ricans outside! It's #$@&ing awesome!"

Now from the reviews I've read on it a lot of people had issues with the way our hero's second fight ever went. Personally I'm fine with it as long as he never becomes Batman level or something. As long as it's kept in mind that this is a kid dressing up like a superhero. But it's got me hooked and I can't wait to read more. And if you haven't read it yet. Pick it up!

The Walking Dead #48

Okay, so this title I got purely because I heard that the violence in it's damn near heartwrenching and just makes you angry at the writers because of how badly some of the characters that you've grown to like die. Of course the key words to that is 'that you've grown to like'. I've only read 2 issues of this title both for the same reason, to see how gruesome the deaths could possibly be. And the first time I was not disappointed. If you've never seen someone slowly decapitated with a machete...whew! I could totally see how that'd be hard to read if I actually knew the character.

As for this one? While there was no slow decapitation, there were some really bad killings that would make you go "Yeah...that's just messed up." whether you know the characters or not. But I will say that without knowing the characters the deaths probably don't carry the same weight, but what does is the amount of characters that are still alive...and there aren't many. From my understanding of the story it's basically a world where zombies are everywhere and the humans are trying to make a stand. Though the problem is that you have some guys in charge that aren't the best people which makes the good humans and the bad ones. It's pretty interesting and if I had the money I would be tempted to buy the back issues so I'd know exactly who I'm seeing die. But hey, you want some gore porn with an actual story behind it, look no further.

kidflash3 - April 18, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
I TOTALLY agree with you about the JSA #14, and Titans #1 (I nosebleed at Starfire's intro!) Trials of Shazam I loved and I hope I see Freddy join JSA because then I will love it even more then I already do!

When you were talking abot Icon, were you talking about Milestone Icon? (He is another guy I would love to see in the JSA, just as I would love to see static in the Teen titans!)

Marx - April 19, 2008 01:51 PM (GMT)
lol Starfire's intro was a bit nosebleed worthy. Animal Man's son is a lucky little boy. And actually I head Shazam's going to be joining Hal Jordan's JLA. It's supposed to be proactive like the Outsiders. Think they're going to have Batwoman on it as well. Which would mean that a bat's on damn near every main team. Batman's on the JLA and the Outsiders. Batgirl's on the Outsiders. Robin's on the Teen Titans. Nightwing's on the Titans. And Batwoman will be on the other JLA.

And I mean Icon as in the comic company that does Kick-Ass. It's actually part of Marvel, kinda like Wildstorm's technically part of DC.

Salvation Run (6 of 7)

I'll be honest with you. I loved the comic and all but the main selling point of this issue was right on the cover. The one thing I have to give to Salvation Run is that it never has misleading covers. The Joker/Lex fight was just beyond awesome. I also rather liked the villains' logic about what to do with Martian Manhunter. It does seem that killing the Flash has made them a bit smarter. Looking forward to the last issue.

Nope, for those who didn't see this cover, your eyes don't decieve you. That is in fact Cassie as Wonder Girl in the cartoon Teen Titans. That alone made me want to pick it up just to see how she was going to make sense with Donna already being Wonder Girl. They actually kept relatively close to her actual origin, but to be honest I wasn't the biggest fan of how she was portrayed in the issue. Though I suppose it makes sense considering there's already a Wonder Girl, but it seemed to me like they just put Cassie in there for fans of her to pick up the comic only to disappoint them. *shrugs* Could just be my biase though.

1001 Arabian Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad #0

As with most things, you make me laugh and I'll most likely enjoy it. I was never the biggest Sinbad fan, think I watched the live action show that was on ages ago but that's about it so my expectations weren't all that high and I only picked it up because I tend to like what Zenescope does with established stories. And I was pleasantly surprised. Really? How can you go wrong with lines like this?

Sinbad: *After stopping a girl from being whipped* That dear sir, is no way to treat a beautiful woman. A flower such as that should be wooed with romantic words, lavish presents and tokens of affection. She should be treated like a queen. Worshiped like a goddess. And once you've captured her heart and soul...Only then do you bring out the whip."

That's just priceless. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend you picking this up to see how Sinbad came across his crew and see the setup for the first issue.

This is another one that's definitely worth a pick up, especially if you're a fan of either Ash or Xena. As I said in the review to the first issue, they do let it be known that Bruce Cambell's characters do look alike and you do get so see how they'd handle the same situations in completely different ways. And while there's no technical fight between Ash and Xena, there's definitely some...harsh interaction.

Madman #3

I don't actually read Madman, but I got this issue purely because of the gimmick. And that is that for the majority of the comic, every panel is drawn by a different artist. Which means sometimes it looks comic booky, sometimes its done in a Popeye style and sometimes it's in a Peanuts style. It's just a really awesome thing to see especially if you appreciate different art styles. The story's all well and good too and it's pretty easy to follow but this is one of the few comics I'd say that I'd buy purely for the art.

Hey guys. I actually made it slightly on time this week, which is quite amazing considering I had relatives over this weekend for Mother's Day so I kinda had to sneak down here and was able to find enough time to read my comics for this week. Woo! Go me! Anyway, this'll actually be a shorter list this week, because a lot of comics just didn't stand out to me. This is also the first time I've ever had no DC comics on the list. Invincible Iron Man #1

As someone who saw the movie and loved it, I actually wasn't originally going to pick this up since it seemed that in Marvel continuity Iron Man wasn't that likable a character outlawing the non registered superheroes and all. Also not the biggest fan of needing a lot of backstory to pick up what's going on. But I read a good review for this issue and thought "What the heck, I'll give it a try." And actually I really liked it. Everything from the art to Tony's personality to the villain who was introduced in the issue. All of it seems like this will be a pretty interesting series. And it actually is a pretty good starting point for anyone who wants to get into the series.

Also, I give a nice little nod to Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas. Another issue that's capitalizing on the success of the movie. But hey, that was also a pretty fun issue and the art's frickin gorgeous! Only reason it's not on the list is because it was pretty much a setup issue. Almost sure it'll be on the list for the second issue.

Secret Invasion #2

Once again Marvel's crossover makes it on the list. Most of this issue is fighting, but I'm actually rather cool with that. Who doesn't like huge superhero brawls? It only makes things better when you're not sure which ones are the good guys and which ones are the bad guys. Personally when I heard about the whole Skrulls taking over thing, I was thinking it was going to be pretty lame. But I've been pleasantly surprised with at least these first two issues and I'll probably keep up with them out of sheer curiousity.

And that's actually it believe it or not. But worry not! I actually have a couple more random reads than usual to fill it out some.

Dark Xena

When I was told just how good this series was, it kind of worried me. Just because when everyone says that something's just beyond awesome, you tend to have really high expectations that just can't be pleased and even if it's really good you're not happy because you were expecting more. But that was not so in this case, I really liked the issues and I think it would have driven me crazy having to wait a month for the next issue to be out.

Like Angel: After the Fall, and Buffy: Season 8, these issues are set after the series finale with Gabrielle trying to figure out some way to bring Xena back. Obviously she finds it or there wouldn't be much of a story but there is a bit of a twist and as with Army of Darkness/Xena, I think this is a definite must for any Xena fans.

Project Superpowers

This was another one I was kind of reluctant to read. Just didn't seem that interesting at first glance. But it was suggested in a Something Positive webcomic and I was bored so I gave it a shot. It was actually one of the most relevant issue 0 comics I'd ever read. It didn't just get you into the story but it gives you a lot of legitimate backstory before the first issue. And as far as the first two issues go it's interesting enough that I'm tempted to start picking it up monthly, once more out of curiousity for what's going to happen.

Just a quick synopsis of what the story's about is that...lets just say there was a big fall out between one of a group of superheros that were fighting Nazis during World War II. And after finding out what that one superhero did wrong, he's now trying to set it all right and get the gang that he royally screwed over back together. It's pretty cool and definitely worth at least a browse.

Robin #174

Oy...*grabs my throbbing head* For the most part I've been liking this title and I'd love to tell you something about the actual plot, but I'll be honest. Everything that happens in this issue is overshadowed by the 'new' Spoiler. Speaking of which there are...ironically...spoilers in this review so if you plan to read it, move along to the next review. But as I was saying...when I first saw that there was a new Spoiler, I was hoping that it was some stalker person. I was hoping that it was anybody but Stephanie back from the dead. Well technically...I did get my wish...it wasn't Stephanie back from the dead, it was Stephanie who apparently never died.

*head throbs again* Why? Explain to me why? Superboy stays dead...Bart stays dead...New Gods...dead...why the Hell is Stephanie back? After literally bringing back Jason Todd from the dead you'd think DC would have fulfilled it's 'bringing back people the fans don't actually like' quota. Yeah, Jason's kinda growing on me after Countdown but still, fans voted for him to be dead, he should have stayed dead. I'll stop the rant now because I could probably go on for ages, but needless to say, Stephanie returning kinda ruined the issue for me...(and funny fact: I'm not actually a Stephanie hater. I loved her guest appearances in Batgirl when she was kinda Cass's sidekick. It's just the principle that at the very least the Bat-books shouldn't have a revolving door around death)

Cyborg #1

Okay, I think I'm done with the ranting... You know...when I saw this title, my initial reaction was, "Okay, Raven having a miniseries I can see...but Cyborg? Honestly?" Sorry to any Cyborg fans, for what it's worth, I do think he should step out of the Titans niche and be on the Justice League already so it's not like I don't like the character, just don't think he's very interesting on his own usually. But I figured if I had low enough expectations, I'd actually like the comic unless it was total crap.

Turned out I did rather enjoy it. Don't know if it was because of the low expectations, but as an origin story it kept me rather intrigued. Which is quite the accomplishment considering I pretty much knew the story before I read it. Victor has a good life, ends up getting the bejeebus blown out of him, father makes him a cyborg, he hates it and has a major pity party, ends up finding the Titans and has a new purpose in life, yadda yadda. Was still interesting to read though. And interesting note, they had a reference to the blonde girl from the Titans cartoon(you know the one that taught the kids with artificial limbs...assuming you watched the cartoon) then again maybe the cartoon referenced the comic...eh, whatever, it still caught my attention.

Tiny Titans #4

Told ya this was going to be Titans heavy. As usual, this title isn't really marketed for my demographic but eh, I read it anyway. It tends to be fun and have a good couple of gags. And from the title I was curious exactly why Robin was becoming Nightwing. Not like Batman was going to fire him or anything. And his reasoning behind the new costume was just great, so I wasn't disappointed. And Starfire and Cyborg's expressions when he said he was Nightwing and they were eating a bucket of chicken called "Knights Wings" actually had me laughing out loud a good bit. Anyway, it's worth a browse.

Titans #2

Okay, um, I think this is the last Titans themed one. But anyway, I still stand by what I said about #1. Some of the costume changes are stupid, and Trigon being alive again is lame. But I have to say one thing...why the Hell wasn't the character interaction this funny in TEEN Titans when they had the same frickin characters!? There's a page where Argent's trying to find out whose trying to kill all the Titans and she has to keep asking because they keep going off topic and each time they get off topic it gets funnier. Oh and for those who want to know, there's a point where Raven's pretty much wearing a purple version of the "Fifth Element" Lelu bandages-only costume for no real discernible reason.

Oh and speaking of the art, I really liked that as well. It's kind of cartoony but not at the same time. Once again, why was this not in the TEEN Titans? But anyway, it's a pretty entertaining issue. Oh, and you remember the issue of Robin where David Cain's dying words were that there were other children he trained like Cassandra and I said that was really lame because it took away her originality. But...if it was handled correctly then it might be cool. Well kinda the same deal with the revelation at the end of this issue. Guess we'll see soon whether it's handled well or goes into the Lame box, without passing Go and without collecting $200.

As some of you probably know, I'm perfectly content with superheroes beating the Hell out of each other for no good reason. What can I say? I'm a glutton for senseless violence and I can guarantee you this won't be the only comic on the list because of that. The basic premise behind this is that there's a Metahuman Fight Club led by people who are named after Apokalyptians (Leader's Dark Side, etc.) and keeps anyone they catch drugged up so that they'll fight. You add Black Alice and Misfit is this thing and that equals me being a happy reader. You also find a nice little secret about the two of them that has me very interested in where they'll be going with this.

Oh, you also find out what happens when Misfit teleports with something organic. Frickin awesome if you like gore.

Okay, so this is the first issue of the Batman RIP arch. For those who don't know after this arch is over Batman will never be the same yadda yadda yadda. Though supposedly the RIP doesn't necessarily mean 'Rest In Peace', you won't find out what it means until the arch's over. And this issue is basically an introduction to the arch. And while it was written beautifully, some parts of it just left me going 'WTF?'. Don't know if that was the intent but it's kinda like, whose the girl that Bruce is kissing? Are we supposed to know who she is because if we are, they did a horrible job at letting us know that. And the part with Joker at the end, I'm not completely sure what happened...but eh, it was cool and I'll probably be checking out the rest of the arch to see exactly what's up with it. Oh, and there's a new Batmobile...still say the Batman Forever Batmobile is the most awesome one.

Justice League of America #21

And we now have the first 'Sightings' comic of the year. Once again for those who don't know, 'Sightings' means that there's going to be a significant event having something to do with Final Crisis in the issue. If I had to guess I'd say in this issue it's Libra making a big gathering of supervillains. Yeah, yeah, I know, that's been done so much that it's kind of losing it's impact. But I'm trying to have faith that since they've blatantly pointed out that they've done this before and Libra's insisting it'll be different this time that we'll see something new.

But all of that aside. You know what the shining point of this issue is? Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman have a secret meeting room and for a good bit of the issue they talk with each other but they kind of pick on each other as well which is pretty frickin hilarious. Example:

Batman: So Clark. When we were fighting the Injustice League a couple of weeks back, did I see you making out with Vixen?
Superman: I didn't....we weren't....
Batman: I can't say I blame you for straying. Mari is a very beautiful woman.
Superman: We weren't "making out." It was just a kiss.
Wonder Woman: Wait. I thought Bruce was teasing. Did you really...?
Superman: No. I mean, yes. I mean...I can't talk about it.
Batman: Uh huh.

That's just gold, right there.

Superman/Batman #48

This is another one that's on here mainly because of the violence as it's mostly a fight between Superman and All American Boy through Smallville. But I'd say easily the quote of the comic is:

Batman: That...That thing is part Doomsday?

Look at that thing! How could you not know it's part Doomsday purely by looking at it? World's Greatest Detective indeed. Anyway, Superman fighting a Kryptonite Doomsday? Genius, and total overkill, really, I think they should have named him Overkill, way better than All American Boy. That's about it for this issue. Awesome fight.

DC/Wildstorm: Dreamwar #2

This is yet another one that's on the list purely because of the fights. Mainly the original Teen Titans vs. Gen 13, and the JLA vs. The Authority. There's plot in her and all, but yeah, I didn't care. Those two fights alone totally sold me on the issue. As well as the fact that the Gen 13er that ended up naked during the fight wasn't Fairchild. Very nice. Though I am curious why they didn't go with any current DC teams. It's old school Teen Titans and old school Justice League. I just kinda question that decision. Personally I'd have loved to see Miss Martian fighting Grunge and the like. But eh(I'm going 'eh' a lot this week, aren't I?), it's still really cool to read.

And that's finally it for DC! Onto Marvel!

Wolverine #65

A Wolverine comic? Moi? It can't be another one based on fights, right? Well, dammit that's exactly why it was chosen. As you can see from the cover there's a good ole brawl between Wolverine and Mystique. And you know what? It's totally frickin awesome! You gotta love that Mystique doesn't go for mind games during this fight, it's just straight up hardcore violence. And I do rather like some of the ways Mystique gets the better of Logan. And I might be the only one who finds Mystique throwing up on Wolverine's face funny...but I don't care. I have a twisted sense of humor and that tickled it. And the final end of the confrontation. One word. Niiiiiiice.

Sky-Doll #1

This is still technically Marvel, or should I say the first title to come out of the partnership between Marvel and Soleil. Was drawn to this because of the summary of the story. A robot made purely to be a servant and once a particular one escapes she starts to find out that like a Transformer there's more to her than meets the eye. To me this kind of read like one of those animes where you're not completely sure what's going on but you understand enough that you're willing to stick with it until everything makes sense. As you read it more things start to make a little more sense and it's definitely interesting enough that I'll be keeping my eye out for it. Oh and if this is a selling point for anyone, there is random nudity. Nothing Tarot-level but it's there. Oh and I absolutely love the art.

Bomb Queen V #1

This is apparently the start of the 5th volume of Bomb Queen. Never heard of it before, myself but if this issue's any consolation I'll definitely be checking up on the other ones. The basic story is that Bomb Queen is a supervillainess and she runs her own city of nothing but supervillains. Already I was sold on that, but having the anti-Town(IE the New Genesis to the Apokalips) be called Littleville, was once again, pure gold. This is definitely the comic for anyone with a twisted sense of humor since it does get a bit on the gory side. If that's your thing I'd definitely check it out. Oh yeah, random nudity and stuff.

KITTY!!!

Marx - June 8, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
I actually was going to have one for the past two weeks but halfway through my browser crashed on me and it was all gone so I can't really be bothered to do it again. I'll start again with next week's. I will say my favorite comics of the past two weeks were Kick-Ass 3 and the end of the Buffy Season 8 arch.

I Loveed the new Robin adn Cyborg issues! Titans #2 Was CRAP!!!!!!! I was just appaled by the art and just wjen I thuoght that the artist had gone sober again, he goes back to being High!!!! Beast boy was just totally stupid!!! They made him look like he was Emo and Gay!!!! (Excuse me for this) A friend of mine and Libby's looked it over and totally agreed with me that the art in the first part was terrible. (If you read tis Liz it was Q, she was the one who told me that she thinks that te art makes them look high.) This is the first Titans issue EVER that I actually HATED!!! And that is a first!!! The plot was alright, but the interaction with the Titans and Beast Boy's actions towards Argent and Cyborg were just Wrong!! (Gar asks Toni if she's still is with Molecule and tells her that he thinks she got with him out of Desperation!!! And he totally just ridicules Cyborg who is feeling bad about Power Boy and the rest of Titans East. Terrible!!!!)

I give it a 5/10. (The STORY is what saves it in my opinion.)

lol I think I'm possibly the only one on the planet who didn't hate the art Titans 2, which is so odd considering how picky I usually am about art.

Okay, I know I'm uber late. But I spent all night doing uber comic reading to make sure I would only have to do 2 weeks at once instead of 3. Might even get this week's done on time. You never know. For 2 weeks this is actually a pretty long list, but hey not all of them are long reviews so without further ado I give you my comic book list for June 11 and 18th.

Batman Confidential #18

This is gonna be one of the short reviews. Batgirl(Barbara) and Catwoman fight naked. That's all I really have to say about this one. There was something of a plot revolving around a notebook or something, didn't really care. Don't read this title usually, but hey. I read it because I heard Batgirl and Catwoman fought naked and it delivered. *thumbs up*

Gotham Underground #9

So this is the last installment of the Gotham Underground series which is basically telling you what's going on in the...Gotham Underground. Surprised, right? Anyway, I thought it was actually pretty interesting seeing Penguin and the Whale guy battling for supreme control of all the gangs. And this is the final confrontation, titled "The Day Penguin Died". Interesting, no? I was groaning when I read the title and even more so when I saw the tone of the issue (IE Penguin's goodbye to Riddler), but I was pleasantly surprised at the end. And at the very end it got a good chuckle out of me. All in all, I'd say this was a pretty good miniseries.

Salvation Run #7

Yet another series ending. As I said in my last one, it would have been more impactful if we didn't already know for a fact everyone would get off the planet. Though I suppose I can ignore that since this actually was a pretty good issue, and a rather good ending for everything. I love how the villains look out for each other and backstab each other at the same time. Either way, I'm very curious about the aftermath of all this, especially if everyone left on the planet isn't dead. I'd definitely pick this up if you've been keeping up with it. Though I would say that the last page was pretty...eh...since we already know what happens to Martian Manhunter. Geeze, DC, make the whole thing anti-climactic why don't cha?

Superman/Batman #49

While this isn't a series ender, it is the end of the story arch of Superman's quest to rid the world of Kryptonite. Honestly, you wouldn't believe how much of that stuff there was. Overall I'd say this was an okay issue, though it was the ending that really did it for me and had me laughing my butt off, though it probably wasn't meant to be funny. Though there was a bit of a groaner when I saw that they were making the comic book Lana into a female Lex-lite ala Smallville. *rolls eyes* Though I did like Superman's zinger as he flew away. Oh and Toyman is the frickin man!

I'll be straight with you. This is on the list for one reason and one reason only. And that's the end. And I'm not talking about the Tarot story, I mean the last two pages of the main one. Frickin priceless!
