Ok, if you're like me you probably go to YJUTT once or twice (or two dozen) times a day , post, goof around, check to see if anybody's in live chat and probably ignore everything under the logo since you've got your login set to do it automatically and nobody PMs you, right? (Actually, I get a LOT of PMs, but I'm an admin and don't post enough sometimes and people like to gripe at me...Which is a good thing actually.)
Well, as good as that system is, you may be missing out on some cool stuff!
See up there right under the logo you have "YJUTT", "Portal", "Help", "Search", "Members" and "Calendar"? THESE ARE COOL AND USEFUL THINGS
I'll admit "YJUTT" isn't usefull at all, you'll probably never use "Help" and we don't keep up with the calendar, but they're still useful.
Search does just what it says, you type n a couple words and it'll find them ANYWHERE on the site (unless you're not allowed to access the area) and members lets you find anyone to IM, PM or e-mail, but those aren't what this article's about...Actually they kind of are thusfar, but I don't plan for them to be.
What this article SHOULD be about is the Portal.
First you just click on it and it takes you there. How cool is that? Cutting technology. We call it the link! ...Alright, that's old. Really old, but that's not all it does.
Once you're in the portal you have a BUNCH of options.
To the right is a little storage of the latest articles in the "Join" section (atleast currently) so you can brush up on the rules and see the new ones when they arive.
To the left you have whole sections of cool crud.
It tells you your last visit, lets you scan for posts that you haven't read yet, edit your profile, view your assistant, log out, tells you your # of new PMs, has site navigation, shows you today's active topics and today's top posters, contact the staff individually, shows you online guests and users, and keeps LISTS of new topics.
Not only that, but on the rules that are listed on the right, you can read summaries or even print off the pages with a click of a button!
Still not impressed?
You can see how many times a rule has been viewed, you can see the author, views and number of replies to a topic, you can see news... And with a couple clicks you can go to any of the topics and posts listed!
STILL NOT IMPRESSED?
Well that's just tough 'cause that's all that I'm putting in for this article other than a final suggestion.
Check out the portal! It's actually got a purpose!
Now all we need to do's work on that calendar...
