Title: Next DC Movie Series
Description: Which Comic should become a Movie?

Robin - April 13, 2004 04:40 PM (GMT)
With the Batman Franchise starting up again with 'Batman Beginings' & the Superman Franchise in constant debate, which series should get a movie deal next? The Amazon Warrior: Wonder Woman? The Emerald Guardian: Green Lantern? The JLA? The Outsiders? Teen Titans? Or perhaps even the insane sociopath Bounty-Hunter Lobo?

Jakazul - April 14, 2004 04:19 AM (GMT)
Outsiders or Teen Titans would both kick some serious butt.

Robin - April 14, 2004 04:23 AM (GMT)
My thoughts exactly. If they could get the right casts and the right script for those movies, they would seriously kick major butt.

Jakazul - April 14, 2004 04:25 AM (GMT)
Yeah! Both of'em would. Especially with a good special effects team. Can you just see how a Metamorpho would look with a good FX crew?
But Titans too... Seriously, they REALLY should do one.

Robin - April 14, 2004 05:05 AM (GMT)
Dude, Metamorpho would be so cool to see. And just imagining a real world Starfire... ah... to dream...

Speaking of which, I decided to add a cast the Titans Movie thread over in THE SOAPBOX. Many of the old YJUTT member might remember this, but what the hell? It's fun.

~Cast the TEEN TITANS Movie!~

Zatanna - April 14, 2004 08:29 PM (GMT)
Nuu! We have GOT to have a good Supergirl movie to redeem the Helen Slater version. It was good movie, in my opinion, but we really need an updated one!
I say we get Kyra Knightly as Supergirl, hopefully Kara.. Maybe they could even do a MHR-type thing, but it'd get confusing for the fans.. two supergirls.. is too much..
Another thing that would be nice is a Birds of Prey movie with Dinah Meyer and Ashley scott.. We'd have to find someone for Canary, maybe like Sarah Michelle Gellar or someone like her, smart quick witted and pretty. Sorry, but we have to have Ashley Scott back as Huntress, this time the REAL huntress.. just give her a wig. The woman rocks guys and gals. She's so talented she's had numerous parts actually written for her!

Robin - April 14, 2004 09:42 PM (GMT)
They do need to make a better Birds of Prey franchise that is for sure. I was so disappointed in the TV sereies. I mean they had the perfect cast (except for Dinah). But the story was so dumb. I mean, Batman runs away from Gotham? He has a daughter he never knew about? PULEEZE! That is so dumb. Batman is the world's greatest detective. You'd think he'd have noticed Catwoman putting on a bit of weight, considering they lived in the same city.

Not to mention all the characters except for Oracle and Alfred were written horribly out of context.

Z is right about getting the TV cast back together, but this time with a better Black Canary and a good script following the ACTUAL BOP comic series.

I just wish that they would make a Teen Titans Movie, although it would be near impossible to do so without messing up alot of the Titan's continuity.

deathfromwithin - April 15, 2004 05:29 AM (GMT)
i voted other a teen titans move would be kool more sb is great...and a gl would rock if it's kyle not hal...but i would most love to see a lobo movie now that would kick as$..

Robin - April 15, 2004 06:06 PM (GMT)
A Lobo movie would be kind of cool if only to see him brought to life. But I sort of see it being a movie that is a bunch of explosions with no storyline. I mean he IS Lobo. He's not going to have a lot of deep emotional scenes or searching for true love.

That's what Slobo is for. :D

Jakazul - April 15, 2004 06:36 PM (GMT)
There is a Lobo movie already though. It's not half bad either.
It's a fanflick, like Batman Dead End, but then again, until the end I would almost count Dead End as the best Batman movie thusfar.
I mean, aside from kicking some serious ass, he looks like Batman in the comics, he's dark and it's got the psych with Joker. I mean really, that's a good film... 'Till the end.
I still like it, but the end kinda takes away the comic Batman edge.
Now if those same people did a Knightfall movie...*evil grin*

Robin - April 15, 2004 10:13 PM (GMT)
Ah Batman dead End. I loved that flick. That movie actually stayed true to Batman lore (except for the ending. Where did that come from? Seriously?)

Marx - April 15, 2004 11:03 PM (GMT)
Aw poo. I've never seen that Batman.

Robin - April 15, 2004 11:28 PM (GMT)
MY LORD! Marx, you poor deprived fool! We must fix this problem STAT!

BATMAN: Dead End

Marx - April 15, 2004 11:36 PM (GMT)
Sweet!! I only have to wait 1 hour and 40 minutes. Took way longer than that to download that first Angel episode with Ilyria.

Robin - April 15, 2004 11:39 PM (GMT)
Jeepers! It only took me 5 minutes.

Must be my internet provider...

Marx - April 15, 2004 11:51 PM (GMT)
5 minutes? For the full screen version? Actually it's at 50% now.

Robin - April 15, 2004 11:53 PM (GMT)
yup. 5 minutes.

After you watch the movie what the making of the movie too. It's very cool. They show how they made the film and the costumes and everything.

Marx - April 15, 2004 11:59 PM (GMT)
74% now, sounds cool, but all will have to wait until Smackdown's over lol.

Robin - April 16, 2004 12:46 AM (GMT)
ah... that can wait. BATMAN NOW!

Marx - April 16, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
lol I would, but the VCR's screwin up so I can't record it. I dled both the movie and the making, I'll watch it right after Scare Tactics and Tripping the Rift...OH! And Mad Mad House.

Robin - April 16, 2004 01:13 AM (GMT)
what ever works for you man.

Marx - April 16, 2004 01:20 AM (GMT)
See? Everything works so much better when you agree with me. B)

Robin - April 16, 2004 01:42 AM (GMT)
Actually I don't agree with you. B) I only said that so you wouldn't notice the hype-spray I stuck you with containing the mind-control agent that makes you do whatever I say.

Who says chemistry isn't fun?

Marx - April 16, 2004 01:49 AM (GMT)
You...used my ego against me? Niiiiiice! *applauds* You have so much potential to be the Jester of Cram lol. Actually I liked Chemistry, the only part that annoyed me was the math, ugh! Math! The true evil.

Jakazul - April 16, 2004 05:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, math is indeed the true evil... Or worse.

Robin - April 17, 2004 03:17 AM (GMT)
Well thank you Marx. Like my titles says I am the master maninpulator. I'm more like Robin than even I realize sometimes. :P

Now that you have been injected with my control serum, bow down to your Lord and Master: Alan! Or face my Squirely Wrath! I do have squirely Wrath you know. One of my hidden nature things. (You have been warned...)

And yes... Math... BAD! Evil! The tool of the devil!

NutiketAiel - May 21, 2004 11:56 PM (GMT)
As if I even needed to say it- LET'S GO LEGION!

Robin - May 22, 2004 12:24 AM (GMT)
That would be another cool movies series to see. Only like the JLA, Teen Titans, and JSA I don't think it will happen. It has such a large cast with such elaborate characters it would be really hard to accomplish properly.

NutiketAiel - May 22, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
Thats the thing, they wouldn't need the whole cast. If they just take the Legion from when it was just starting up post-zero hour, they would have fewer to deal with. I was thinking, for the first movie:

Cosmic Boy
Saturn Girl
Live Wire
Apparition
Triad
Leviathan
Invisible Kid (of course)
Cham
XS
Kid Quantum (untill he kicks the bucket, that is)
Brainiac 5
Spark

Thats just a few more than they had in X-Men. I think they could pull it off as long as they limited themselves in scope. No pulling in every which Legionnaire from every single continuity. It could be possible.

JLA and Titans would be even easier, as they have a built in smaller membership, but wouldn't be as greal as the Legion, of course. :-)

Sano - May 22, 2004 12:47 AM (GMT)
I think they could do a JLA or Teen Titans movie it would just be a little hard to pull off. Sure the characters are elaborate but people who would be interested in the movie already know who they are. You don't have to establish the characters and anything like that as for a movie with new characters. Similar to the X-Men you could set some basics for the characters and then jump headlong into the story. As for powers and things like that they can just use CG, wouldn't be tough to create effects like the Manhunter phasing in and out and such.

Now thats not to say that it would be a good movie but I think its something that could be done if someone tried it. I'd love to see something like that happen at some point even though it will sadly most likely not happen. As for something easier to do, I think a Green Lantern movie would be great, the only question is which lantern do you use. :P

Robin - May 22, 2004 01:10 AM (GMT)
But the thing is the X-Men are all associated with that one team. They are all mutants and so we don't need to go into a lot of their back history. They explained that Xavier, Cyclops, Storm, Wolvie, Jean and Nightcrawler are mutants and came to the school to control their powers. That is all the audience needs to know.

But JLA and Titans are much different. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter all come from very elaborate and different walks of life. You need an entire movie just to explain one of them. They don't fight crime for the same reasons. They didn't join the JLA for the same reasons. The audience needs and wants to know why they are there.

And the thing with comic based movies, is that you HAVE to make them for non-comic fans. For the people who have never picked up an issue of JLA or Titans. Because you need to write it to where you can explain who these people are for them. It isn't the comic fan they are worried about usually.

If you just introduce these people and don't explain who they are, the audience who don't read comics will be lost. They will be constantly asking, why is he doing that. Who is she? Are those real? And so on. But if you try to explain who they all are, the movie will never end.

Marx - May 22, 2004 01:14 AM (GMT)
Are those real? LMAO! Not sure if you meant that in the way I recieved it, but either way that's hilarious. Well maybe if they made movies for each of them, then made the group movie, kinda like a trilogy...with way more than three movies, no way would they do it, but it'd be kinda cool.

NutiketAiel - May 22, 2004 01:17 AM (GMT)
OK, you're right about the JLA and the Titans, but most of those problems wouldn't apply with the Legion, since those characters are all team oriented, too! I mean, with the exception of the Founders there was first the Legion of Super Heroes and THEN the heroes, and most of them have one of two reasons for being there.

Founders- Because they founded the thing through their heroism.
Everyone else except Triad and Apparition- Drafted by their home governments.

Triad and Apparition's stories are pretty similiar to the Founders, they would just need a second scene to establish it (the attack on the UP Assembly in the second appearance of the Post-Zero Hour Legion). It would not be THAt difficult, especially if they went into it with the intention of making it a franchise. They would just have to be VERY careful about how many characters they let in in future movies. it would have to stay, for the most part, as the bedrock core of the Legion and not the 2 dozen or so Legionnaires that I and Trillions of fans have come to know and love (and I'm sure all you do, too). To the list I put up on the other page, the only Legionaires I would add in later movies would be Ultra Boy, Shrinking Violet and mayve Andromeda (briefly).

As much as I like them, no Karate Kid, no Princess Projectra (I mean Sensor), no Shadow Lass (I mean Umbra), no Kinetix, no Ferro, no M'onel (the time travelling is just too complex), no Star Boy, etc. They just have to keep the numbers managable.

Oh, and no "Superboy." I'm sorry, to all you Kon-el fans out there, but GET HIM OUT OF MY LEGION!! Keep him in the Titans where he belongs. :P

Robin - May 22, 2004 01:17 AM (GMT)
Take that as you will... :P

Agreed Marx. That would be wicked cool A Batman movie, Superman movie, Flash Movie, Wonder Woman movie. And then they do a JLA movie with those actors and so on, would be brilliant. But very expensive. Could you imagine how much money that would cost? LOL.

And as for Legion... that would be a wicked movie, if done correctly. But I see it ending up becoming like Starship Trooper... and that didn't go well.

NutiketAiel - May 22, 2004 01:23 AM (GMT)
Starship Troopers? Ugh.

They probably would mess it up, but that never stopped them from trying before!!

Sano - May 22, 2004 01:35 AM (GMT)
Yeah you're right Robin, I guess I'm still in denial about comic book movies. I just always hoped that one day they would make a comic book movie for comic book fans and not care what money it would make. Lets face it, they say its all about the money but in that case how come they made movies like The Adventures of Pluto Nash.

Though it would be neat if they made one movie for each of the members of the JLA who have never made it to the big screen then started a JLA franchise with a three picture deal. I would certainly spend money to go see those movies if they did them right. :D

NutiketAiel - May 22, 2004 01:53 AM (GMT)
Thats a pretty big "if," Sano, though I do like your idea. I would see them, too.

-Jim

Robin - May 22, 2004 01:56 AM (GMT)
Ah... to dream...

Sano - May 22, 2004 02:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah I know its a big "if". Sniff, oh if I only had the power to make whatever movies I wanted. Oh the wonders. Ah well, only in a perfect world...

Robin - May 22, 2004 02:14 AM (GMT)
Or more accurately, if only we could be the directors and producers of those movies.
