Title: Greatest Villain

NutiketAiel - June 14, 2004 11:14 PM (GMT)
Sorry if your favorite villain wasn't up there, but I think these six choices encompas the real candidates for greatest supervillain, although it took alot of agonizing to come to these final decisions. Joker, Deathstroke, Anti-Monitor, Paralax and Brainiac were among the runners up to be included on this poll.

So, vote for which of these terrible villains is the Greatest Villain in the DCU, and tell us all why.

NutiketAiel - June 14, 2004 11:17 PM (GMT)
All of these villains have their selling points, but in my opinion, the greatest of all is the Time Trapper.

For starters, his power is almost unparalelled. He created and sustained an alternate universe after the Crisis was supposed to make such things impossible. He remembers every single alternate timeline ever to exist. Pre-Zero Hour, Pre-Crisis, everything. He is truely the master of time, a title which many have claimed, but only the Time Trapper had the ability to truely make that claim stick.

Marx - June 14, 2004 11:17 PM (GMT)
I voted for Darkseid, though I'd of course point out that Doomsday spanked Darkseid. *whistles innocently*

NutiketAiel - June 14, 2004 11:21 PM (GMT)
You will note that Doomsday was not even considered for inclusion in this poll, so :P.

Marx - June 14, 2004 11:28 PM (GMT)
Oh yes lol this I noticed, which is why I felt the need to mention his awesomeness using my sneaky subtlety. :D

Robin - June 14, 2004 11:35 PM (GMT)
Ooh... So many choices... But most of them suck since several aren't the kinds that come to mind when you think of DCU big bads. I mean Tim Tripper? Vindal Savage? Pul-eaze...

But I would have to say... Darksied. He's the biggest bad in the universe ten times over. His planet is every evil though, feeling and action in one place.

Luthor has a MINOR sense of morality to him, that keeps him from becoming the ultimate evil. For example the love he had for his daughter or some of the actions he peformed during the War. He's an evil S.O.B. but not the greatest evil.

Ra's Al Ghul is dangerous. No doubt about that. He's the anti-Batman. He knows how to manipulate his foes and destroy them, such as when he and Talia stole Batman's files on how to defeat the JLA. But again, he's not all evil. Everything he does is because he wasn't to protect the earth from humanity. On some level his actions are noble, though definently not ethical or right.

Vindal Savage is a pain in the ass. But he isn't the ultimate evil either. He's always felt like a great big annoyance in my book.

Mordu is... Mordu. Evil, but not evil enough in my book.

Time Trapper >Shrugs< Not all that bad in my opinion.

But there are a few people that really could have used involvement. Doomsday for one. He killed Superman, and he has the only desire to kill and destroy.

Joker. The man is insane. His action are with out reason and he will do anything to kill and hurt people simply because he thinks its funny. He may not be like Darksied, but everyone knows better than to under-estimate him. He can't be anticpated. And whats more dangerous than a man who thinks death is funny?

Sano - June 14, 2004 11:49 PM (GMT)
I, like Marx, voted for Darkseid simply because Doomsday was not on the list. While I think Darkseid is the best villain on the list you gave, Doomsday is by far the ultimate villain. :D

Robin - June 14, 2004 11:53 PM (GMT)
That's debatable.

Doomsday is the most dangerous yes since he can't really be killed.

But Darkseid has the intellect, power and so on and I think that makes him the ultimate villian. Not to mention Doomsay is sort of being manipulated by Darkseid at the moment.

Marx - June 15, 2004 12:07 AM (GMT)
Doomsday is wha? Explain! Explain your accusations on the Great Gray Giant Goodness-killer!

True Believer - June 15, 2004 12:13 AM (GMT)
I think Doomsday is more dangerous than Darkseid who's a close second.

Robin - June 15, 2004 12:28 AM (GMT)
Darksied is smarter, more powerful and has an entire planet of evil at his beckoning. Doomsday is one monster. Darkseid has more means to commit evil than Doomsday.

Sure, pit Doomsday against nearly anyone and you've got a problem, but Darksied opend a boom-tube into the sun and Doomsday can't do much.

Marx - June 15, 2004 12:38 AM (GMT)
Ah, I'll admit Darkseid's smarter...ok...Impulse before reading the books was smarter than Doomsday. *picks up a rock* This rock is smarter than Doomsday. But he's destroyed entire planets. And when he was dropped on Apokalips, Darkseid was preparing to flee. Omega beams did squat, and since Doomsday absorbs solar energy and is pretty friggin invulnerable, not to mention not needing to breathe, he'd just eventually float his way back or just attack whoever else he considered a threat.

Robin - June 15, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
Right, but Darksied has more than just his omega beam. He could use Doomsday for his own means, like he is doing now with the Doomsday clones. And no one is really sure what would happen if Doomsday got dropped into a sun or a blackhole.

It could really go either way.

Marx - June 15, 2004 12:51 AM (GMT)
That's fair enough. Almost no one is able to beat Doomsday through pure power. Supes did it once and died in the process lol. But sending him away works, usually how he's dealt with anyway. So yeah, it's pretty even.

NutiketAiel - June 15, 2004 02:46 AM (GMT)
Come on, Time Trapper could take Doomsday out with a wave of his hand. He could make it so he never existed. Time Trapper has manipulated entire universes to serve his purposes, and all you guys can talk about is Doomsday, the Random Space Monster?

Now, Darkseid I can see giving Time Trapper a run for his money. But I still think Time Trapper is the greatest villain the DCU has. He is immensely powerful, exceedingly intelligent, completely ruthless, calculating in the extreme and quite capable of manipulating anyone to achieve his ends. If he spent more time fiddling with the 20th and 21st century heroes, maybe you guys would see it my way. Lucky for the heroes of the M2 era, Trapper is pretty obsessed with the Legion.

Of the six that I listed here, I would rank them as follows:

1. Time Trapper
2. Darkseid
3. Mordru
4. Ra's Al Ghul
5. Lex Luthor
6. Vandal Savage

Followed by:

7. Joker
8. Anti-Monitor
9. Paralax
10. Brainiac

Robin - June 15, 2004 03:27 AM (GMT)
I doub't it. Time Trapper is WAY over rated, in my book. I mean, if he's so powerful, why doesn't he just wave his hand and destroy everything he's got a problem with? He's supposed to be as powerful couldn't he just erase the Legion and all other Super-heroes from the universe?

Bedlam could do the exact same thing, with his god-like powers and he's only 10 years old. And its said a child who has no limitations can be more dangerous than anyone else.

I find Darkseid and Doomsday far more evil and dangerous though. Doomsday because he's the only creature ever able to kill Superman in the entire universe. Darkseid because he IS evil incarnet.

NutiketAiel - June 15, 2004 01:36 PM (GMT)
He doesn't just destroy everything that annoys him because that would take all the fun out of it.

Robin - June 15, 2004 04:32 PM (GMT)
Not a good reason. If Darksied had that sort of 'power' he would have done with his opposition a long time ago.

Marx - June 15, 2004 09:22 PM (GMT)
Not necessarily. It's been a proven fact that those with Godlike power, especially if their villains are total idiots with it. Example, Bedlam. "Crushing you with a monster would be too easy so I'm going to come up with an over elaborate plan." "Oh instead of conjuring up villains who are in direct opposition to YJs powers or taking away YJ's powers, or just willing them out of existence, I'll just sic Doomsboy and Secret after them." Or maybe the Joker. "I have godlike power and instead of just killing all the heroes, I'll screw them up instead and make myself ruler and kill Batman everyday." Well ok that last part wasn't so bad but you get my point. Villain + Godlike Power= Idiocy with the exception of me of course. B)

Robin - June 16, 2004 12:38 AM (GMT)
EXACLTY MY POINT MARX!

That's the reason I don't think that the ones who are overly powerful can be considered the best villians. The instant they get too much power, they become idiots.

But considering the kind of character that Darksied is, who is get to the point kind of guy and he had the power to alter or destroy the universe with the flick of his hand, he would. No theatrics no witty banter. Its the kind of character he is. He doesn't go for the overly theatrical tie the heroes to a giant typerwritter.

It would be walk up to Superman and watch him blow up. End of story. LOL. Anti-climatic from a writter's perspective, but still...

Stepi01 - August 9, 2004 02:35 PM (GMT)
I just have to say that I voted for Darkseid.

I think that he is the coolest, and he will never truly die.

I mean, c'mon, how many times has Darkseid been read his Last Rights. The guy will never die. He will never stop. He will never quibble. And he will always be the biggest meanie in the universe.

Marvel-Shazam - August 13, 2004 12:36 PM (GMT)
These wimps(including Doomsday and Aiel's other vaves) are nothing compared to ULTRON!He's pure evil,he can never really be dead,Doomsday,Darkseid and Time Trapper they wish they where Ultron.C'mon you must believe me!!

Marx - August 13, 2004 01:40 PM (GMT)
*everyone stares at me and Jim* Hey don't look at me, I can't defend Doomsday against someone I don't know, so go Jim, defend Time Trapper for all of those completely biased to one villain! Oh and Doomsday can't die either, he just comes back stronger than whatever killed him. So as long as he still had a body after his "death", Ultron...whoever he is, would totally get his. :P

Marvel-Shazam - August 13, 2004 02:49 PM (GMT)
Um...you really don't know Ultron-THE ULTRON,he's been killed since his first appearance in the 70's and he got killed like two years ago then carbon copies came back but Ultron is a machine Doomsday is weak Ultron is ALL!!

Robin - August 13, 2004 05:16 PM (GMT)
Ultron? He's just a machine. He's not that tough and certainly not what I would consider a 'big bad'. A good old fashion computer virus could easily shut him down. All anyone needs to do is 'reprogram' him. After all, he just a computer with a few upgrades. Big whoopie. Oracle alone could clean his clock with just a few keystrokes of her keyboard and access to her Mother Box from New Gensis.

Tall:Order - August 13, 2004 07:13 PM (GMT)
Ambush Bug.

The Guy's just a Badass, he's definetly the be all and end all when it comes to Super Villany.

So, says Matt.

Voted for Darkseid.

Marvel-Shazam - August 14, 2004 12:39 AM (GMT)
Not true made of adamantium, brain engrams of Giant-Man,Evil of Satan, power of the world Ultron is ALL!Darkseid is nothing,ULTRON is ALL and no virus can hurt him he created them all

Robin - August 14, 2004 01:22 AM (GMT)
Doubtful. Ultron is just a fancy caculator.

Darksied can use his omega beam to alter Ultron's metal into paper. There is no real limit to Darksied's omega beam. Ultron get's in Darksied's way and he's toliet paper.

And Ultron has never faced the Oracle, who is the DCU's ultimate hacker and computer expert. She and Batman have both studied Ultron, and I have no doubt they could easily create a virus to install into Ultron that he could never handle and cause him to self-destruct.

He's a machine. And every machine has its weakness. All you need is someone like Oracle and Batman to find it.
