Title: Censored Words (All Members Please Vote)
Jakazul - March 1, 2004 05:37 PM (GMT)
Feel free to discuss before making your decision.
Robin - March 1, 2004 06:28 PM (GMT)
I'd think blocking certain words are necessary to keep everyone happy, but let's not turn into one of those groups that can't say anything. We've got enough censorship in the world. <_<
I feel that swearing is alright so long as it is relevent to the story. If a character is really pissed off, we can understand them saying a four letter word. But if he is just talking to someone and is swearing just for the heck of it, that is pointless and then offensive.
atlantis - March 1, 2004 06:34 PM (GMT)
I guess i'm for freedom of speech :o and all......... <_< But you swear at me and i'll .........
But in general swearing should be only if needed.
Don't be an ass ;)
Jakazul - March 1, 2004 06:45 PM (GMT)
My theory is, as I'm sure I've mentioned, that profanity is in the eye of the beholder.
I basically agree with Alan. I think we have enough censoring (more than) and that a little's ok as long as it's not just in there to be in there.
Tall:Order - March 1, 2004 06:54 PM (GMT)
I say only block the racist ones, 'cause at some point there's gonna be an idiot who's gonna come here and start shootin' those words off.
We should probably block the Big 'F' too, but that isn't me talking that's me being influenced by the Good Natured soul of Rachel...
Anyway, just the Racist ones, e'rythin' else is cool...in moderation of course, like Alan said.
<_< That smilie is me by the way.
Poe - March 1, 2004 06:56 PM (GMT)
Indeed. I agree with Jake and Alan on this one. Even Xena swore once. If memory serves, she said, "You BIIIIITCH!". This was, directed of course, to Alti.
Just... we have freedom of speech, so let's not abuse that freedom, 'kay?
Jakazul - March 1, 2004 07:13 PM (GMT)
Yeah. Like Matt said. The "big F" and racial stuff's all that I see point in censoring. The rest, as long as it's not abused, can probably stay for the most part.
But seriously, we're prob'ly gonna have to set up rules on temporary banning for over use, 'cause several of us, especially Rach', ourselve or our parents don't tollerate it.
Robin - March 1, 2004 09:36 PM (GMT)
Agreed. The 'F' word and all racial slurs should be marked as big no-no's. As for what could be considered over use of swear words...
"So I was @#$%ing around at the bank and saw a @#$%ing big monkey, who was @#$%ing wearing a rubber suit...."
That kind of writing shouldn't be tolerated I'm thinking.
Tall:Order - March 1, 2004 09:40 PM (GMT)
Yeah it shouldn't be allowed. I mean how're we gonna understand it with all that '@#$%'. Wha the heck does '@#$%' mean?!
Robin - March 1, 2004 09:58 PM (GMT)
<_< Ha ha... You know what I'm say...
Tall:Order - March 1, 2004 10:01 PM (GMT)
 Yeah, I get what you mean.
True Believer - March 1, 2004 10:18 PM (GMT)
I agree with you guys. What? Who called me a push over?
Robin - March 1, 2004 10:24 PM (GMT)
The guy who pushed you over...
>Pushes Fab onto ground.<
Jakazul - March 2, 2004 12:05 AM (GMT)
*Kicks him in the side while he's down*
Good job Alan. Have a guitar pick.
*throws guitar pick to Alan*
I found it yesterday, but I already got enough. :D
True Believer - March 2, 2004 12:09 AM (GMT)
HEY! I'm going to tell my big brother-- Wait I don't have one... Oh f&%K it! Oops--
Br00D - March 2, 2004 04:08 AM (GMT)
I curse like a sailor. Everytime I see rules that say "Don't cuss every other word cause you look dumb."
Obviously you've never worked construction. It's constant gay jokes, cussing, and women watching.
I'm your stereotypical construction worker. Only not fat or old, and I got pics to prove it.
I have no problem with some censorship, but I do have chars that cuss. Once I decide what char to play.
I refuse to play CM3! Kid Eternity was cooler anyways, but don't want him either.
Robin - March 2, 2004 04:34 AM (GMT)
 Okay... Thanks... for telling us?
Just so long as the swear is relevant to the story (ex: Character is REALLY ticked off).
As we said: we'd all like to avoid characters who swear more than they actually talk. We're doing this because some people find it very offensive. We like to keep this site to where EVERYONE can enjoy themselves without being offended. This isn't real life. There might be people like that in real life, but here we're going to be PG-13 site at the most (meaning limited swearing).
deathfromwithin - March 2, 2004 05:23 AM (GMT)
i agree only the racist stuff should be taken away and not cursing all the time like they do in the comic book called "wanted" very good book but sometimes the cussing yust seems like they try to fit it in to be kool...but a few f-words won't hurt much i mean i'm sure no one well take it personal..seeing as it is directed to the character not the person who is playing the character..
Robin - March 2, 2004 05:27 AM (GMT)
But if you feel the absolute need to write the f-word, maybe you could do it as 'F***', just to be on the safe side.
Br00D - March 2, 2004 10:50 AM (GMT)
Not Technically Robin. I've been banned from boards for even that much. People can be f'n pricks when it comes to cussing. You do get chars like Lobo, and the such that cuss like hell. I'm just saying there should be nice comfort for both parties.
Cussing to me is a way I talk, not meant to be vulgar or offensive. To people who can't handle even the censorship of the words talk about respect them. If they respected us then they'd be able to compromise on a fine border of allowing cussing without actually havin' to read it. Personally if you can't act as a mature adult, even about cursing, on a messege board then you shouldn't be online at all.
Marx - March 2, 2004 06:14 PM (GMT)
What the fudge are all you people talking about? I never really noticed but someone pointed out that I prefer to make up stupid words and kinda sensor myself. *looks at my first sentence* Aaaaah it all makes sense now. :D :ph43r:
Robin - March 3, 2004 04:07 AM (GMT)
But you must remember Brood, this isn't only a site for adults. Its for all types of Teen Titans fans.
We might have younger kids online who are avid watchers of the cartoon rather than the more adult comic readers.
(And I personally feel that I should stick with corrupting the children of my close family and friends and one day my own children)
As for characters like Lobo, they use fake swear words. 'Fraggin' and 'Bastich' are easier to get away with then the real words.
What we are saying is that we'll allow some leaway in means of cursing, but we'd perfer people avoid exesive swearing. Just because one person doesn't find it vulgur and offensive doesn't mean many others won't.
It's only fair to be considerate of other players, right?
Shinigami - March 3, 2004 08:19 PM (GMT)
I personally have a major problem with swearing!!! In the fact that I have a habit of swearing toooooooo much!!! :o
I think everyone could benefit from being allowed to curse if the reason behind it can be justified since most curseful phrases are slowly becoming a part of everyday society!!!
If the site is Family friendly then we have a responsibility not to go over the top and swearing excessively simply to offend others is just wrong!!!
So a compromise sounds like the most promising solution...censor anything majorly offensive or outrageous but allow us to slip in the occasional cuss word or two ;)
Robin - March 6, 2004 06:51 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that about sums it up Jake. Thank you. :D
SapeaShadowMaster - March 6, 2004 02:49 PM (GMT)

Jakazul - March 6, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
Would the emphasis be on "son" or "b***h" in that third scenar...er... I mean...
Yeah... Those would probably be ok... I dunno, they are a bit unnecesary in a couple, but I don't see a HUGE problem with it.
I kind of agree with Marx too though, but...Who gives a fudge what I think? ;)
I think that "f***" shouldn't be tollerated, but go ahead and type it if you want, it'll come out as "crap" thanks to my new censors. ;)
The thing, Br00d, is that you don't have to care about what's happened on OTHER sites.
We don't give a f*** about what they say. This is our site, our rules.
As long as it doesn't go against InvisionBoard's rules (Which, if I may mention, it doesn't.) it's up to the ALMIGHTY ADMINS OF YJUTT.
What? Ego's good for ya, ya dern skippies.
Jakazul - March 6, 2004 07:06 PM (GMT)
:D ;)
And now that that is said... I'M OFF TO SOLVE ANOTHER CRISIS! SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW! SAME JAKE CHANNEL! SOME JAKE TIME!
UP, UP AND AWAY!
*jumps, lands and starts walking*
Shinobi - March 15, 2004 02:49 PM (GMT)
well...i gotta go with only censoring racist slurs...
(and this is me...i almost never swear too...)
Zatanna - March 18, 2004 03:16 AM (GMT)
On top of ethnic slurs, how about ones based on sexual orientation? I doubt it'll be much of a problem, but just an idea.
As for what I voted, I think ethnic slurts and other "offensive" material is good enough. PG-13 is a little too limiting, personally, but I also don't wanna read a 4 page porn where a young girl and a pegasus are having sex (I've been forced to before in a chat room, don't ask, you seriously don't wanna know). Most of the characters are teenagers, but DC has proven that teenage super heroes can be sexual (See Spoiler/Robin IV). But please, avoid great detail.
True Believer - March 18, 2004 03:22 AM (GMT)
Falcon - March 18, 2004 03:23 AM (GMT)
Actualy....
Robin and Spoiler were THAT involved?!?
I knew Steph got preggers, but the only time I remember Tim ever coming close to being sexualy involved was when Arian(Yes, I can't spell her name, so sue me) throwed herself at him in attempt to save their relationship. And THAT certainly didn't go that far, since her uncle broke em up and Tim told her he wanted to take it a bit slower....
Personaly, I could do without allot of the cursing. Mainly because I got a mom who thinks He double L is a curse and she'd kill me........I don't have a problem with it( I hear MUCH worse at school. I personally dont curse though.) But I don't want the computer taken away,(Arg! I have a hard enough time saying cr@*)
True Believer - March 18, 2004 03:29 AM (GMT)
I think that what Zatanna meant was that Spoiler who will be Robin IV, who happens to be a teenage girl, had sex.
Also Mia Dearden. She's like 16 or 17 tops and she used to be a "call girl" since she was like 14. Plus she used to have sex with her uncle. GROSS! And her step father (or father I don't remember) molested her. Poor, poor girl.
Falcon - March 18, 2004 03:32 AM (GMT)
Ah. Ok. Cause I was confused looking through onloine Comic refrences going 'What the......SOMETHING I DON'T KNOW! About the Batclan! Impossible!' j/k
And as for Mia. Thats.....pretty sad actualy :_(
Robin - March 19, 2004 06:27 AM (GMT)
Naw. Tim Drake is still a virgin. He has never had sex with Ariana nor Stephanie, both of who were the only girlfriends he's ever had. He's one of the few remaining gentlemen in the DC Universe. But if you pick up the recent issue of ROBIN, that topic does come into question by his parents.
Spoiler got knocked up by her ex-boyfriend before Robin. I always thought that teenaged pregnancy was a great issue to touch on in ROBIN. Though it was about that time I started disliking Spoiler. Not because she had sex, but it was when and Tim started dating that she was starting to become such a... pain in the butt. I realized that Spoiler was a fun character, but only in very small doses.
Yeah, that sucks about Mia. I've met real people who've suffered that sort of abuse. They never really put that behind them.
But I guess it isn't completely unexpected for Mia to have a sucky childhood. For her to become 'SPEEDY' she need to have some sort of screwed up childhood problem.
For Roy Harper, they'e made mention that he was sexually active as a teen and a major drug user. Not exactly as bad as Mia, but his problem was back in the 70's. Different times different problems.
Fan Boy - March 19, 2004 04:33 PM (GMT)
But Mia won't be turning Speedy. Ollie dreads the idea. They thought once and Ollie said that they (Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Him) should be arrested for putting teenagers in danger. Which sucks, cuz I really wanna see Mia became Speedy. Not that the character need it, Mia is awesome either way.
Robin - March 19, 2004 07:22 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah... cuz Ollie says she won't be Speedy is going to stop her...
Please... Bruce didn't want another Robin after Jason Todd died, and then Tim Drake showed up. He didn't want Barbara to be Batgirl at first. She became the most memorable Batgirl in history.
Besides I read somewhere that Mia/Speedy is up for nomination of joining the Teen Titans in the comics.
Fan Boy - March 19, 2004 07:40 PM (GMT)
Bats and Ollie are two complete different characters. But anyhow, I would like Mia to turn into Speedy, she's one awesome character.
Robin - March 19, 2004 08:22 PM (GMT)
I'm just saying, the adults don't always get what they think they want. Besides, Ollie didn't want Roy to be his partner originally either.
