Title: Teen Titans Tournament Finals
Marx - July 27, 2004 12:12 AM (GMT)
This is it. The moment you've all been waiting for. 8 Titans started this and it's down to the final two combatants. As me and Alan predicted, it has come down to Robin and Raven, gotta love the irony of the bird names. So unleash your final votes! And yes there will be another contest after this one, not quite sure, probably be a redo of DC vs Marvel with us voting this time and updated matches.
Robin - July 27, 2004 12:40 AM (GMT)
As much as it pains me to admit, Robin can't win this battle. Not alone.
Raven's powers are near impossible to defeat, much less defeat single-handedly. If any of your have read the Teen Titans over the years, you'd see that Raven is a fromidable opponent who's power is far more dangerous than expected. She's gone rogue on multipe occassion and it requires the combined effort of the Titans to bring her down.
I'm not saying that Robin can't think up a plan to beat Raven. He just wouldn't be able to do it on his own .Even with Robin's skill as a superior tactician, he would need the help of his fellow Titans in order to execute a proper winning plan.

Alan, sadly, is very correct. Raven would win this fight hands down for the following reasons (which I have taken the liberty of catagorizing).
POWERS:
Raven: An empath with vast defensive capability. Her soul-self also has a myriad of abilities, including but not limited to, teleportation.
Robin: None (However, he has a very keen intellect, and is a highly trained aerobat and martial artist).
NAMESAKES:
Raven: A reletively large black bird.
Robin: A smaller bird with a red breast.
POETRY:
Robin: A poet once wrote "A Robin red-breast in a cage puts all of heaven in a rage" (Too me, this implies a beautiful creature that should not be imprisoned)
Raven: Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven speaks of how a man is driven to the brink of madness (and I say over it) by a raven whom he believes is saying "Nevermore". Spooky.
And so, for these reasons and more, I am afraid that the human Robin does not have a chance against the Half-Demon Raven.
Besides, as Alan is so font of pointing out, this girl can be super bad@$$.
But this is just my $0.02 worth.

Yup yup, as I said before, I think Raven's gonna win the whole thing. Which is really cool when you think that she has no offensive powers. And as Alan said before she might have even more powers now than she did before so I don't think Robin would win this one. <.< Harm on the other hand would kick her @$$. :P Just kidding.
deathfromwithin - July 28, 2004 02:18 AM (GMT)
raven takes it all....besides she does have the cooler name...hey if sb can't do it and he has the power, then robin would be in a bind
Robin - July 28, 2004 03:56 AM (GMT)
Well, I wouldn't sell Robin THAT short people. Afterall, Robin has faced down Darksied (in the JLA: Total Justice Mini-series), Joker, Lady Shiva, Mister Freeze, Clayface and many others.
Robin won't win, but he sure as heck won't make her win easy. Unlike the others, he wouldn't go for a frontal attack. He'd pull his 'disapearing act' and mess around with her head some first.
And so what if Superboy has power? Robin has taken down people who have beaten Superboy into the ground. Remember Metallo? Superboy who has his tacticle telekinesis, was going down and Robin took the metal man out easy.
Besides how many times has all the meta-human heroes been defeated only to be saved by the normal human?
Its Robin's tacticle skill that makes him such a dangerous opponent. Superboy isn't known for his ability as a strategist.
And I don't know how what Robin's name has to do with him loosing against Raven. I seem to recall Robin's always being the hardest Titan to kill. Just ask Deathstroke the Terminator.
Marx - July 28, 2004 05:07 AM (GMT)
It's the confidence dude, the cooler name gives you the confidence. :P
And even with a disappearing act I don't see how it could get Raven even a little. From your description of her powers she just has to calm down and wait for his eventual attack and if any of his attacks make her lose consciousness he goes bye bye. How the heck do you beat someone you can't knock out without killing them? I just think Robin might last longer, Kid Flash might have lasted longer too depending on his strategy, any chance he could phase through Raven's soul self?
Robin - July 28, 2004 05:42 AM (GMT)
But... Robin has more confidence than Raven.
Raven is scarred crazy that she might loose control of herself and go four-eyed, red-skinned evil again. She doesn't trust herself, or her own abilities.
Robin on the other hand has self-doubt about if he is worthy of being Robin, but he is full of confidence when in the field. He has to be confident to an extent or he would have already died. (Raven's died three or four times)
I don't think Kid Flash could phase though Raven's soul-self. Otherwise, Wally would have done it when Raven went psycho.
Its true that Raven would need to wait for Robin's attack in order to anticpate him through his emotions, but Tim wouldn't attack her full out like Superboy or Kid Flash would.
He'd drop a few gas pellets and such, while trying to remain calm enough to keep her from understanding his emotions or his plans. He'd use mutiple means to distract her from concentrating. And if Robin used sleeping gas to knock her out, that wouldn't cause her to release her soul-self.
The gas would calm her body and thus would calm her soul-self and mind. It isn't like getting punched in the head, which has a negative effect and turn on the defense mechanism in her soul-self. Knock out gas and such doesn't have a negative effect on one's emotions.
But of course, the main problem is keep Raven from controling her mind and soul. It wouldn't be hard for Raven to escape Robin's traps, but it would slow her down some.
I still think Raven would win, but I think Robin has a fair shot too keep from going down too fast. Besides, how many times does everyone underestimate Robin's skills because he is a normal human? And how many times does that come back to bite them in the butt?

Wally can vibrate? If he can I don't think he could when he was Kid Flash. When Bart was first introduced I remember a funny conversation between Bart, Wally, Linda, and Iris where Iris said Wally was better suited to watch Bart than Barry because they were more similar. Of course while this conversation's going on Bart's running randomly around the room complaining about stuff, and Wally said "I wasn't like that." And Linda said "You're still like that. You just don't vibrate." And Bart popped up. "You can't vibrate?" "Maybe I don't want to." "YOU CAN'T! I CAN DO SOMETHING THE FLASH CAN'T DO! COOL!" And to my memory I can't remember Wally phasing through anything. Of course I only have a very small number of JLA TPBs.
And back to the subject, I guess like every fight you can think of, it all depends on the surroundings. If it's like a Colluseum or a DBZ type arena, it's an open space so there's really no place for Tim to hide. Which would make things a bit more tricky using stealth. Though if it was a DC vs. Marvel deal and they were transported to a random place, Robin would have a much better shot.
lol And one thing I've always wondered about knockout gas. True, it calms you down, but wouldn't seeing the gas make you panic slightly. Or would the panicing be moot since the gas itself would calm Raven down? And hey, the 'Robin never died.' thing is a cheap shot since he's never gone evil lol. Or did Raven die because of her lack of self confidence, you'd think if she was evil, her confidence wouldn't be an issue anymore. *knows jack nothing about the comic book Raven except what's been posted here and what's been in the newest Teen Titans comic*
Robin - July 28, 2004 06:11 AM (GMT)
When Wally was Bart's age (13) he couldn't vibrate. But when he worked with Raven he was 19 and knew how to vibrate through things at super-speed, and do just about everything Bart could do (except for creating scouts). Read the old NEW TEEN TITANS issues and you'll see Wally could do everything Bart could.
Raven died because she lost confidence in her abilities, and that turned her evil and that forced the Titans to kill her or forced her to kill herself. Again she's died A LOT.
And they've shown Raven get hit with knock out gas in the past, and but she didn't loose control of her soul-self. She can't afford to or create an appocolpyse.
Oh and Robin HAS gone evil. Dick Grayson was turned evil by Raven in 'TERROR OF TRIGON' along with the other Titans. Lilith AKA Omen brought then back to good. Brother Blood mind controlled Dick into being evil. Tim went evil when those disco-demons took control of his body. Robin has just never died when he was turned evil.
And Spoiler who was possing as Robin is pure evil!

Ah but she isn't Robin anymore, she got fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired! That makes, how many people Batman's fired? Dick, Cassandra, Stephanie, Helena, anyone I'm missing here? Of course to my knowledge everyone he's fired as either earned the costume back(Batgirl), went back to their previous costume(Huntress), or chose a new one all together(Nightwing). So chances are for all the Stephanie haters this isn't the last you'll see of her.
Robin - July 28, 2004 08:10 PM (GMT)
Don't remind me... I'm hoping she's the one person Batman has fired who actually remains fired. And I'm holding to the possiblity she might be the one to die in 'WAR GAMES.'
Marx - August 1, 2004 08:46 PM (GMT)
Geeze, I think this is the first time I've ever seen a 10-0 poll on this site, this might actually end in a landslide.
Marx - August 9, 2004 03:58 PM (GMT)
And the match ends in a landslide Raven's the winner, and I've gotten every vote of the tournament right...unless of course there's a bonus match for the winner! Oooo suprises suprises! *mystery oponent steps out of the shadows*
Shinigami - August 9, 2004 04:09 PM (GMT)
Voted Raven...not explaining...too much effort!
