Just thought I'd share how the con went(See x marks the titan for where I first mentioned this)......>>lord, I hope this doesn't come across as boasting. It's not! I swear!... I think.....I'm just really excited about it....still!<<
I went to a small con in Tampa two weeks ago. It was nothing big. The con was inside the Double Tree hotels banquet room and its the second one I've attended there this year(last time I was critiqued by Alex Savieuk with some comments by Ethan Van Sciver, and I got a head bust drawing of Cap America by John Beatty>who's soon to be working on one of the batbooks I here<)
They had a small selection of guest their, but it was pretty varied. We had the actress from the original Superman serialized tv show there, a artists from Top cow or dark horse, a caricature artists, the creator of the original Green Lantern, an animator from WB(they didn't say from which cartoon, just that he was an animator) fill in artist for BOP(issue. 74), Wolverine, and X men artist Jim fern and, last, but NOT least: Ethan Van Sciver.l
Aside from the incredible deals(nm/g condition back issues for a dollar each to 4 for a dollar) and a autographed issue of Green Lantern Rebirth by the original Green Lantern creator and Van Sciver( no. ten of the top ten hotist artists named by Wizard mag this month) the highlight of the evening for me atleast was the portfolio reviews I got!
I was critiqued by Jim Fern and Ethan and they said they really liked my work. My one problem was I paids to MUCH attention to details, I needed to practice layering better(foreground middleground, back ground) and I laid my hand on too heavy(I was working like frantic to finish the pages and indented the paper and muddled the lines. But with the critisism I also got great feed back. Anatomys on the right track(not perfect, but with some studying I should be on my way), good layouts, good knowledge of perspective, and dedication, determination, and hard work.
I gave Jim Fern my email and, he said once I correct my pages, he'd like to see them again, critique, then again I improve it. He said once he thinks that I've done a fair job, he'll show them to his editors at DC.
During my Critique with Ethan, he said that my work was on the right track and that with three or four years of hard studying, I should be at DC by the time I'm twenty and that he hoped to be seeing my work there in a few years.
~Grinning from ear to ear. Insane amount of art supplies, anatomy and comic biz books, and tons of paper in hands~
EEeeeeeeeep!!!(not sure how else to respond......Unless you want to see a weird little happy dance/jig, bouncing off the walls, and jumping up and down randomnly)
>>Again, I hope I'm not coming off as boastful. I hate people that brag on and on and on......I'm just happy! And I think is the kind of stuff you share with friends. Its not to say its definite anyways. many times an artists opinion is different than an editors, but its still a happy side note. :) I'll try to get my work up next week when I can borrow mr.Mitchell(art history teachers) digital camera to upload em'<<
~We now ya not boastin  But made up for ya, keep up the good work Rach!
An lets see if any comics conventions came near Liverpool. I did go to one a few years back, but it was just a bunch of geeks selling their old comics, no writers or artist... or anyone special. But we deserve a proper one, we are the European city of culture after all
WOW rach great going.. hehehe hurry get famous so i can tell people i know you lol just kidding. WEll i've went to a couple of comic conventions myself. I got autographs from voice actors that were in wolfs rain and did tons of other ones i'm pretty sure you know of. But val kilmer was there as well. And the guy that played the creeper from jeepers creepers. I'm really really impressed.i didn't know you had a portfolio!!! i need to talk to you more lol. Wow just congrats it would be awsome to see your name in dc comics. And pretty soon you'll be seeing my name on video games mwahahaha lol just wow
....Val......Kilmer.........~Drool~(Yes, I realized when he played Batman it kinda stunk. but, c'mon, he's Val Kilmer(Iactualy, I think I saw him on the hour of power the other day...(tv church))! Lucky you!!!
Hmmm. The one person in England that I think would be cool to see at a con is Alan Moore.......But....he doesn't go to conventions.....He thinks the fans are psycho or something(I read in an interview somewhere that he had nightmares about them for weeks.....heh.) But cons are still fun!...inda. Theres lotsa good deals usualy. One time you could get five back issue comics in good condition for undera dollar....So thats also a funreason to go to cons(Bt then again, I'm a geek to. What can I say!)
LOL Thanks guys. I'm definitely putting alot into my portfolio pieces(I have another con coming up in Jan. And soon I'll be having to prep for that)....so at least the other artists that critiqueds it didn't tell me it was crap and then laugh in my face......that would have bee six hours of loofing around and 'homework' time wasted everynight!(plus the three hours IN school and the Lunch hour I spent working on it in the library....like I said. I'm a geek. Just not your run off the mill, glasses held together witrh tape' kind.)
Hand....hurts! And now I have to do corrections on it too!

Meh, at least its fun(or my weird definition of it anyway). I just a aleeve and some coffee then back to work!
Hmm......will definitely look for your name in Video games Z. Ohhhhhh. You know what would be cool? A YJUTT vid game. We'd spread our insanity to living rooms all across america.~cheshire grin and evil mischif look~. Excuse me a moment....I've got an idea....
