Title: Favorite SUPER Hero
Description: Who do you like in the 'S' Sheild?
Robin - December 10, 2004 05:46 AM (GMT)
::supes:: Superman started it all. But as the years passed the Last Son of Krypton was surrounded by friends who also fight for Truth and Justice. Whether it be his clone Superboy or his cousin Supergirl, the Man of Steel is not alone.
Cast your vote. ::supes::
NutiketAiel - December 10, 2004 07:35 AM (GMT)
Well, I cast my vote in the "Other" column.
My favorite member of the "Superman Family" would have to be Supergirl.
Note the absence of quotation marks. I was referring to the original, Pre-Crisis Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, cousin of Superman, exemplary member of the Legion of Super Heroes and a true heroine who, without hesitation, gave her own life (very painfully, I might add) to save the Greatest Hero of All Time and, by extension, the Multiverse from the Anti-Monitor.
Supergirl is the definition of heroism in my book. It doesn't get much better than that.
And, for the record, I STILL am unconvinced that the current "Supergirl" isn't some trick by Darkseid.
Or the Time Trapper.
Or Extant.
Or Lex Luthor.
Or Brainiac.
Or SOMEBODY.
Robin - December 10, 2004 04:30 PM (GMT)
Well then, I'm afraid you voted in the wrong poll Jim. Pre-Crisis Supergirl doesn't count as an other. Because DC has confirmed that the Post-Crisis Supergirl VI is indeed Kara Zor-El. She isn't a trick, nor is she some scheme by Darksied. They said they finally wanted to bring back Kara Zor-El into Superman Lore, and thus have done it.
And if you'd take note, this is a Post-Crisis poll. Otherwise I would have had to put in such lame character as Superchimp, or Supercat or Superhorse.
NutiketAiel - December 10, 2004 06:22 PM (GMT)
My opinion stands, as does my vote.
Especially since you included "Supergirl I" in parenthesis in the "Other" column. ;)2
Robin - December 10, 2004 06:37 PM (GMT)
Supergirl I isn't Kara Zor-El Jim. That's Matrix. I'm going off the Post-Crisis universe. If you voted for Supergirl one you voted for the telepathic shape-shifter Supergirl.
Supergirl I is Matrix
Supergirl II is Linda Danver/Matrix hybrid
Supergirl III is Cira-El
Supergirl VI is Kara Zor-El
NutiketAiel - December 10, 2004 06:45 PM (GMT)
Aha; there's the problem, since I've never heard of Cira-El.
I was under the impression it went like this:
Supergirl I- Kara Zor-El (pre-crisis)
"Supergirl" II- Matrix
"Supergirl" III- Matrix/Danver with that Earth Angel wierdness mixed in
"Supergirl" IV- "Kara Zor-El" (post-crisis)
By the way, I meant to mention this earlier, but your Roman numerals are off (that kind of confised me, too, untill I figured out what you were trying to say and then forgot to tell you).
"IV" is four, "VI" is six. V = 5, and having an I before it subtracts one from it, making four. An I after it adds one and makes it 6. :-)
Robin - December 10, 2004 06:48 PM (GMT)
Nope. See I put Kara Zor-El as The latest Supergirl, since her pre-crisis life doesn't exist anymore.
Supergirl finally brought into the post-crisis universe. They are the same character, with the same history, same powers and everything. The Writers confirm that she is not going to be some stupid trick by some super-villain. They wanted to bring back the Supergirl everyone loved from the old days.
As for the roman numerals things, obviously a mistake. No big deal. Sorry if it confused some people.
NutiketAiel - December 10, 2004 06:51 PM (GMT)
I don't know... writers can be sneaky. I'm going to reserve judgement untill she's been around for a decade or so and proven her loyalty a couple of dozen times.
No biggy on the Roman Numerals, I figured it was just a typo. I just pointed it out in case it was adding some to the confusion.
And I'm still voting for Pre-Crisis Supergirl.
Robin - December 10, 2004 07:33 PM (GMT)
Alright... but considering that Pre-Crisis Supergirl is Kara Zor-El, and Kara Zor-El is listed on a different poll option... and this is a Post-Crisis poll... that would mean your vote wouldn't count, huh?
The Chris - December 10, 2004 09:44 PM (GMT)
~Why do you always have to debate with Jim? Its so sad. +_+ An I voted for Superboy. I want him to became Superman Secondus some day, or just his own hero like Nightwing did. An does anyone know who Steel the first is? Coz I noticed that John Henry Irons was the second Steel.
Robin - December 10, 2004 09:47 PM (GMT)
Hey he the one who instigates the initial debate. It isn't sad. It helps pass the time. :P :P
I read in the DCU Dictionary that there was a Steel I who was b-level character and worked occassionally with the JLA. But he vanished into comic limbo. I don't know much more about him aside from that.
Jason Todd - December 10, 2004 11:23 PM (GMT)
Too much Supergirl......*head explodes
Anywhoo I voted for Eradicator. He was pretty cool. Whatever happened to him?
NutiketAiel - December 11, 2004 01:12 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the original steel was a member of the JLA that existed just prior to the JLI. He, if I recall, had super strength and invulnerability, I think; pretty standard. He was partnered with a guy named Vibe, who had some kind of vibrational powers.
One of the two (steel or Vibe) died in Crisis. I don't know which one, and I don;t know what happened to the other.
Robin - December 11, 2004 07:14 AM (GMT)
Well I'm not certain, but last I heard Eradicator is guest appearing in MAJESTIC. That alternate universe Superman guy.
deathfromwithin - December 12, 2004 01:33 AM (GMT)
superboy allllll superboy.....and i mean kon-el .....no contest ::supes:: ::supes:: ::supes:: ::supes:: ::supes:: ::supes:: ::supes:: :yo:
Marx - December 12, 2004 02:10 AM (GMT)
I actually voted for Kon too.
True Believer - December 16, 2004 08:25 PM (GMT)
Actually u r half right Jim. Both Vibe and Steel are dead, but none of them died during crisis. I think u might be thinking of Hawk and Dove, cuz the first Dove died during crisis.
Vibe and Steel died during "Legends", Vibe was killed by Prof. Ivo and I don't remember how Steel died.
Xtreme - January 7, 2005 01:35 AM (GMT)
Wait.... Wich Steel is dead? The awesome black dude with the cool armor who lives in DC (or at least visits there) and has a hammer? or some other differant one? BTW I think Vibe and Steel (I II?) both died. I hate the killing off of superheros. ecspecially trojia. that stunk.
Robin - January 7, 2005 01:46 AM (GMT)
He died during OUR WORLDS AT WAR. But I read somewhere that John got ressurected a second time, though he's in permenant retirement.
And who's Trojia? Don't you mean Troia? >Pft< She'll be back. Donna Troy is the Jean Grey of the DCU.
Xtreme - January 8, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)
ya i ment troia. She better come back! lol. And so should Steel! He was my absoulute fav. Superman friend. Well, at least get un retired the big sissy! lol
Robin - January 8, 2005 01:31 AM (GMT)
'Sissy?' Surely you jest! John Henry was killed TWICE in the line of duty, in within only six months. That's not a sissy. That's someone who's gotten bored. After you've died and been ressurected twice in one year, the super-hero biz kinda loses its impact. What can you do for an encore after that?
Plus, Natashia is doing a brillant job taking over where her uncle left off.
Jakazul - January 8, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
Or it's someone that's uch a big sissy they can't defend themselves weel enough to not get killed twice in one year.
Batman's been killed once in like 75 years (not including the elseworlds and LOTDK. I'm talking about emporor Joker and yes, i know he actually died like a thouand times but it was all at once and for the exact same reason, it hardly even counts) and you don't see him retiring.
Robin - January 8, 2005 02:15 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but Steel died in a solo-battle against hundreds of intergalactic monsters bent on destroying the earth, was taken by Black Racer (Death personified), taken to Darksied who resurrected him a suit of armor that was slowly destroying his mind and soul, and fought against Superman, before sacrificing himself to keep from being corrupt and evil, and somehow getting resurrected again.
Besides, Batman is obsessed with crime fighting. You couldn't make him quit with a gun to his head. (BTW: Batman died a second time in Obsidan Age, along with the rest of the JLA, before being ressurected by Aquaman and the JLA emergency team.)
Jakazul - January 8, 2005 02:20 AM (GMT)
Crap, I've only read the first 3/4 of book one of Obsidan Age. (Can't find book two.) But even so, that's kinda my point: Batman's obsessed with crimefighting. That's what keeps him from being a sissy. Steel's willing to give up.
Anyway, you want mindless-souless and fighting against comic heroes you should meet my fifth period english teacher...
Robin - January 8, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
Buy Steel never wanted to be a hero full-time. He did it for a while, but decided his abilities were better suited elsewhere. He still helps out when needed, but otherwise he's bored with it.
Yeah, well, I'll see that English Teacher and raise you a Drama Teacher and Forensics Teacher.
Jakazul - January 8, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
But Steel had the power to do good and decided not to and gets bored. SISSY BOY.
(I like my Drama teacher. Don't have forensics) I see your drama and forensics and raise you geography and 2nd grade homeroom.
Robin - January 8, 2005 02:46 AM (GMT)
He did so much good, he sacrificed himself twice to save people. He deserves to live his own life. Besides, you think he still doesn't help out when he can? Who do you think probably updates Natasha's armor all the time?
I raise you my college english, math and 3-D design professors, plue my first karate teacher.
Jakazul - January 8, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
Yeah, even villains sacrifice themselves for causes sometimes (I'll think of a good argument sometime)...Batman updates her armor... BATMAN!!!
I see them and raise you my first and third algebra teachers, geometry teacher and the PTA.
Robin - January 8, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
PTA is a given for all education systems. That doesn't count.
I'll see them and raise you my brother's entire graduate school professors.
And STEEL makes her armor! STEEL!
Batman had his own problems keeping his own weapons uptoday. He doesn't have time for Nathasha.
Besides, isn't she a technical wiz?
Jakazul - January 8, 2005 03:26 AM (GMT)
I'll see them and raise you my principals, superintendants, my first two fourth grade teachers AND my old math tutor.
No. No, you're wrong. Natasha's an idiot who can't even program a VCR and Steel doesn't make the armor. Batman does. Out of the goodness of his heart. Because he's mad at John Henry for being a SISSYBOY.
Robin - January 8, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
I see all that and raise you the entire education system in the United States! HA! (And don't try to use the entire world, because many eastern countries are known to have high level education systems.)
So if Natasha is an idiot, then how come she's saved the day multiple occassions, hacked into the JLA teleporter on her own, and has only worked with Batman twice.
Besides Batman no longer has access to new weapons. His company that created them got bought out by Kord Industiries. Batman doesn't have time to make weapons for Natasha. He's too busy making his own and saving Gotham and the World on a regular basis.
Jakazul - January 8, 2005 05:55 AM (GMT)
...You and your facts... Pshaw.
Well you may have facts and common sense and realistic approaches and history on your side, but... but... I have... Stuff... Other stuff... That...
Was that continental US or all-inclusive?
John Stewart - January 12, 2005 04:04 AM (GMT)
Any one esle miss John Henry Irons. I really think DC should bring him back. John we miss you. Come back where you belong.
Xtreme - January 16, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
one little comment and WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH! Everything goes nuts. And I see both of you and raise with my 4th Period English teacher (her last name is Klinger) AND Iraq and Afghanistans and the whole fudging Middle Eastern and Mexican School System. BWHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA! BTW, im going to make a new poll- Who wants John Henry Irons to come back?
Shinobi - January 16, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
I want a peice of this bet, i'll go in on Jake's side and raise you the african continents educational system. Including the countries that have made it so ALL schooling is payed for by the state because unlike other lucky countries they dont have huge oil reserves and have to work for everything they get.
Robin - January 16, 2005 10:19 PM (GMT)
Actually many of the african universities are rather well to do considering many are run by English central university like Oxford.
And in the end the USA education system beats all others in means of problems. At least other countries are able to discipline their students without fear of a getting a law suit for yelling at some smart mouth kid carrying a knife.
Shinobi - January 16, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
Hm? I thought we were betting the really good system's i know many african nations have great educational systems.
Robin - January 16, 2005 11:17 PM (GMT)
No... We were first betting against the worse teachers we ever had and it progressed into the educational systems with the most problems.
Xtreme - January 16, 2005 11:19 PM (GMT)
arent we messed up lol. Should we get back on topic? (jk this is fun)
Robin - January 16, 2005 11:20 PM (GMT)
You can try, but doesn't mean it will happen. lol.
Besides Superboy obviously wins.
