Jakazul - January 8, 2005 11:43 PM (GMT)
This is quite simple really. Who's the best hero?

Obviously, I went with Batman. I'm not even gonna get into why, though I'm sure I will later if any arguments break out.

The Chris - January 9, 2005 12:17 AM (GMT)
~LOL Your all idiots I hate you all (Has an argument broken out yet? Coz I'd like to know your point Jake) You all eat penguin shit. (j/k)
I know theres more Batman fans here, so I can guess how things will go, but am sticken with Superman who is winnin right now. An who knows, with all the newest memebers here there may be mroe Supers fans.

Jakazul - January 9, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
lol Well... That's a profanely insulting way to start an argument.
Fine. My points... I have a lot of them.
A few being:
1) Batman's got a much better origin
2) He went to much more work to get where he is
3) He's got loads better villains
3b) His villains have better origins
4) He's more determined

True Believer - January 9, 2005 12:57 AM (GMT)
1) Batman's got a much better origin <--- Not True.
2) He went to much more work to get where he is <--- Questionable.
3) He's got loads better villains <--- Truth.
3b) His villains have better origins <--- Truth.
4) He's more determined <---- Not True.

Robin - January 9, 2005 03:14 AM (GMT)
1) Batman's origins are far better. He's a character who had his entire life shattered before his eyes and he rebuilt himself to stand for something better and protect people. He's a simpe human who has done more than many heroes could ever claim to doing.
Superman's origins are more aloof and harder for people to associate with, since no one can claim to being shot to earth on a rocket.
2)Superman had everything in his life handed to him. He never had to work to gain his abilities. There were given to him strictly through genetics. Batman on the other hand pushed himself above and beyond human limits to become both the World's Greatest Detective and the Most Dangerous Man on Earth. (And that is a direct quote from Superman himself).
3a) One word: Joker. Even Superman is afraid of him.
3b) Batman's villains are so much better to understand.
4) Batman is far more determined that Superman. This is unquestionable. He's so determined its practically full out obsession.

deathfromwithin - January 9, 2005 07:19 AM (GMT)
whats the point of this batman is gonna win so lets yust forget the vote guy's ............besides we all know the one and true best hero is gonna be superboy ::supes:: also nightwing is better then batman on any day ::wingster::

Jason Todd - January 9, 2005 07:52 AM (GMT)
Hmmm iono, since I prefer Captain Marvel over both, but I went with Batman. Its not that I think Batman's origin are better, Superman lost everything before he could get to know it, he lost his family before knowing who they were. I like Superman's concrete ethics and sense of right and wrong, like when Manchester Black tried to break him and failed trying. To pick I went with Bruce's determination, from seeing what happened to him in Hush and how he handled Darkseid in Batman/Superman (He was gonna blow up Apokilips after emergin from the mouth of a giant monster!) and how he could kick Clarks but I went with him, and I think he has beter rogues also

The Chris - January 9, 2005 10:26 PM (GMT)
~Originaly, one of the earlier tials of Supermans origin is he spent 5 years in an orphanege an then got adopted by the Kents, or that the Kents found him an kept him strigth away an raised Clark to always believe he was there own child. Then they died of old age, an before so they told him that he was an alien they found in a rocket an thats why he has special powers. This shattered Clarks realiaty as he went through a whole identity crisis "Who am I? Where am I from? Why am I here? Why do I have powers" an so he went on a personly quest to find his humanity by puttin his abilities to the test an using the life lesson an morals he was raised with by his loving carin Ma and Pa.
I think that origin was much better than any of Bruce's, but we all know that they keep changin Superman's origin every 20 years. But the basic idea is there, the tial of man tryin to be a man, an livin up to the name "Superman". An alien tryin to find his way in a adoptive world with special powers, much better than a dark detective who lives with little boys.

Robin - January 10, 2005 01:20 AM (GMT)
Its all a matter of interpretation.

I personally find Clark's life not all the exciting. Sure, getting sent to earth in a spaceship is interesting, but his life up-until he became superman was rather normal. Great parents, good friends, a normal life. It wasn't until he was in his teens did he realize his powers. (At least that's the current story. Or was... Depends on which writer wrote it this week.)

Batman is one of those characters that shows you don't need to have super-powers to be great. He actually watched his parents murdered in cold blood and as a result he chose to protect the innocent from following in his face. For years he trained himself in mind and body to perfection. He also went through a 'Who am I time' since in his eyes, Bruce Wayne died with his parents. He picked up the broken pieces of his life and re-built it. He surrounded himself with a family (Alfred (Surrogant Father), Leslie (Surrogant Mother), Dick, Jason and Tim (Surrogant sons), Barbara, Cassandra, Stephanie (Surrogant daughters), and he has known love (Selina, Talia, Diana, Vesper) and close friends like Clark, Diana, and J'onn. Anyone else in Bruce's situation might have given up. Instead he became the best humanity has to offer, in means of mind and body.

I voted for Superman. <_< And no not because of my loyalty to Doomsday.

Batman just annoys me sometimes. Now keep in mind that while I have read a couple of Superman TPBs(so what if most are Doomsday related) that I've yet to read a Batman comic. As a couple of you know the only bat-title I read is Batgirl, so I mainly know Batman from his guest appearances in that title and the one or two JLA tpbs I have. So this could just be that the title is making him look bad but since it is a bat-title you wouldn't think so. Now I'm not talking about skills of course, skillwise he's totally awesome, it's his personality that annoys me.

Ah the numbered thingies.

1) Personally I think both of they're origins have they're good points. Don't really prefer one to the other, one's more human and one's more out there.
2) Okay, I'll give you that. Bruce is human and Clark's an alien, kinda a given.
3) Hm, I don't know the full rogue's gallery, though my faves in each are Joker and you know who. And Joker comes closer to any to you know who than most other villains.
3b) Since I don't know Joker's origin except for the first Batman movie, I can't really answer this one. :P
4) Yeah I'm with Alan on this one, dude's totally obsessed, though Superman did become obsessed for a time if I remember correctly.

Jakazul - January 10, 2005 02:29 AM (GMT)
Joker's origin- adapted from MANY different versions:
Unknown guy, probably named Jack, possibly Jack Napier, has a pregnant wife and has just lost his job as a comedian. He needs money for his growing family so he takes on a job as a criminal- then known as the red hood. His FIRST night out on the job he's robbing a chemical factory, Batman beats the living crap out of him and he falls into a vat of acid. (Much like the movie.) Somehow he survives (Even though when Abbotoir fell into a vat of acid he died... Really, read Nightsend some time) and he goes back to his apartment. His wife is dead in a horrible freak accident (the accident changes from time to time. Originally a hellicopter hit her car *seriously* then a dirty cop blew her up, there's no telling. One of'em even ties into Riddler somehow) And it drives him further over the edge.
He obviously blames Batman for his condition, becomes obsessed with killing him and putting a smile on the world since his life is currently an overwhelming frown.
And thus is born our evil Batman counterpart- The Joker.

Robin - January 10, 2005 02:34 AM (GMT)
Right, but Joker's origin can't be considered completely true. He once said 'If I'm going to have a past, I want it to be multiple choice!'

Marx - January 10, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
lol Thanx for the info. :D It's all good, parts of Doomsday's origin is a little inconsistant too. First they say he has no internal organs and then Braniac takes over his brain...last I checked that was an internal organ...or I could be wrong about that. *gets a scalpel and a random normie*

Jakazul - January 10, 2005 02:38 AM (GMT)
Well, the brain's not really an ORGAN is it... Maybe... I dunno... Either way, if he needs to wear those little green shorts to be shown in comics he's obviously got SOME organs... *cough*

Falcon - January 10, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
Batman. I like superman okay, but Brucie is definitely my most favorite superhero(Right above several others in the Batclan) of all time. I'veliterly been humming the 60's theme song(Nananananana) to it since I was eight months(Which is weird, but funny. Have videos to prove it)

Batmans villians are a lot cooler than many of supermans villians and darker.

I still honestly believe Bats could beat supes in a fight(see Dark Knight Returns).

But I also think that both Supermans and Batmans origens can be related to. Several kids have grown up only to realize that the people they call parents aren't their real parents and left with the question of who or what they are. And others, sadly, have their parents torn away from them at a young age and are left wondering what to do next.

I would out up more of an argument for why Batmans better......but I think he can stand alone for an explination why. He's just ubber cool and hard a$$.

Shinobi - January 10, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
Gotta go with the bat on this one. For many of the reasons stated before me, actually my freind and i make ripping on superman (as well as other heroes we find annoying coughcyclopscough)

Robin - January 11, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
Warning: completely off topic...

Can't say I disagree there. I've slowly grown to hate Cyclops as well. I used to like him before, but then they turned him into a spineless, pathetic, backstabbing jerk. He cheated on Jean Grey, with Emma Frost, blamed his problems on Jean, and then when Jean was killed, he started making out with Emma, litterally on Jean's grave!

What a freaking a**hole!

That's has to be the worse character developement I've read in a while. They completely changed his character from a loyal hero, to a adulterer.

At least the Ultimate X-Men Cyclops is more of a bad-ass.

Now please return to your regularly sqedueled discussion...

John Stewart - January 11, 2005 05:17 AM (GMT)
I said Superman because DC Comics agree to something to get the rights to Superman were he can't lose.

Jakazul - January 11, 2005 05:31 AM (GMT)
And my response to that would be: Say wha?

Robin - January 11, 2005 06:07 AM (GMT)
Umm... where did you ever hear that? DC would never agree to that, because it will make Superman comics repative and predictable. If he never loses, then there is no excitement.

Besides, Superman looses all the time.

He got killed by Doomsday.
He's gotten his butt kicked by Darksied.
Batman kicked his butt with a Kryptonite Ring in Dark Knight Returns and in the central comics.
He's lost his job at the Daily Planet to Jimmy Olsen.
He failed to save Lois from getting shot.
He's watched Darksied kill his friends (Animated Series).
He was unable to save Hippolyta.
He's never won an arguement with Lois.

Seems to me, he loses quite often. Every hero does, and Superman is no different.

Jakazul - January 11, 2005 06:26 AM (GMT)
Not to mention that he almost always goes out with his underwear on the outdside of his costu... Oh wait...

Ya know, I have a theory on that too. Remember a few years ago when it was all "in style" for guys to wear their pants hanging down to their knees and all?
It's something to do with a more modest version of that. Heroes wearing their underwear on the outside is not only a symobolance of differentiation from the outside world, but also a cry out to say "look at me, I'm not wearing a thong, I'm therefore a tough guy and can beat you up, you stupid villain you. Oh how silly you look with your pants on the outside!"
I also find it interesting that heroes don't wear boxers... or breafs... just those little tighty-whitey rejects. Oh well, they can still pulverize the badguys, so who cares?

Robin - January 11, 2005 06:29 AM (GMT)
Well what do you expect? Do you know how hard it is to wear tights when you've got boxers shorts ridding up? It looks like you've got tissue damage. (I did Shakespear plays several times. So yeah, I know what tights are like.)

Besides, I'm pretty certain the new heroes like Robin, Superboy and Kid Flash are boxer boys.

Jakazul - January 11, 2005 06:40 AM (GMT)
Actually I don't, but I sure won't hold it against you. Anything for plays and drama is understandable. I could tell you stories...*shudders from memories*
Anyway, yah, you're pro'lly right about the new heroes being boxer boys.
I guess we could always make a poll over it, but... Maybe not.

Robin - January 11, 2005 06:56 AM (GMT)
lol. Why not? We list the Titans and ask 'Boxers or Briefs or Thongs?'

Falcon - January 11, 2005 07:31 PM (GMT)
LOL.

Nah. They MIGHT be boxers, but Nightwings generation(Wallie, Kyle, Dick, and Roy) MUST be brief wearers. :P

Jakazul - January 11, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
Or tightywhiteys... Or just go commando.

Jason Todd - January 12, 2005 01:41 AM (GMT)

Batman better than Superman

Shinobi - January 13, 2005 01:41 PM (GMT)
Ohhh god! Mental...image...forming! I must remove the demons with a bullet! *Grabs a gun*

Jakazul - January 13, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
I know, tighty-whitey heroes'd just be wrong.
Though I bet sales rates'd go up if all the female heroes just wore thongs...
*stares at Rach' for half a second* Did you hear that? In the other room? No? I better go and...check on that

Xtreme - January 13, 2005 11:47 PM (GMT)
Got to say i totally agree with all the Batman lovers except for one thing! Batman=more determined then Superman? When has superman ever given up? *dodges the inevitible amount of exceptions hurled from the Batties* Also Supermans origin is wayyyyyyy to confusing (see confusing origins poll)

Xtreme - January 13, 2005 11:48 PM (GMT)
also my fav. show when i was a kid was that crappy batman show. i even had a homemade bat-costume lol.

Robin - January 13, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
And you call yourself a Batman fan... Have you read some of the sh*t Bats has pulled off. Such as the time the entire JLA was captured by the White Martians (even Superman who was too weak to even fight back) so easily. Meanwhile Batman was 'thought' to be dead, but he actually discovered the White Martian's secret and took down four of the six white martians on his own?

Superman himself says that Batman's dedication is scary. Clark does the job because he thinks its right.

Batman does the job because that is what matters most to him. Hell, to him, there is no real life outside of Batman. Bruce Wayne is the mask, and Batman his his 'true self'.

Jason Todd - January 14, 2005 12:59 AM (GMT)
And lest we not forget he was gonna blowup Apokolips....

Falcon - January 14, 2005 01:12 AM (GMT)
LOL. Ohhhhh. Yeah. Can't forget that one.
But to tell you the truth, he MIGHT have been bluffing. It was hard to tell!

~glares at Jake for the 'thong' coment~ You better have meant thong SANDLES jake or--hey! Where do you think your going! Like heck theres a noise coming from the other room! ~Starts chasing jake. Doesn't care too to much about the thong comment, just feels like torturing something today and I've alread burned up all the ants~

Shinobi - January 14, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
Mmmmm...lady heroes in thongs...ahhhh, that got rid of the demons better then the gun. *tosses it away, shooting a random passerby in the leg* Anyway, quickly to make this happen...
TOO THE PERVERT CAVE!™ Formerly the batcave, until i bought it from batman. Also, I remember back on the old board i was the self-proclaimed 'god of perversion' Would it be possible for me to have that actually added to my name by someone?

Jakazul - January 14, 2005 04:35 AM (GMT)
LOL Fine, Rach', you can chase me for fun. What are friends for?
