Title: Actors
Description: ...kinda fun...?
STOMP - March 12, 2005 07:44 PM (GMT)
Ok, so I was just watching commercials and became incredibally furious. The cause: Batman Begins. And whoever chose a nobody to play the pre-vigilante Bruce Wayne. Storyline-wise and considering what a director could do, this film could possibly be the best Comic-Flick since Batman Returns. So my question is, why the hell can't you get an accomplished actor to take the roll. I mean, I know Kilmer and Clooney blew rubber-nipple in the last few Batman movies but puuullleaase.
Ok so... on to the game. Basically, pick a hero or villain and let's decide who would best play them.
Starting with....... BATMAN/BRUCE WAYNE!!!

A nobody??!! Oh please, Christian Bale is far from being a nobody. I take you didn't watched "American Psycho" nor "Equilibrium". Because if you did you'd see that Christian Bale was born to play this role. All that repressed anger he shows in “American Psycho”, plus that feeling that he might snap at any time. In “Equilibrium” he shows that he can kick some serious ass. That movie has some amazing fight sequences.
Plus Christian Bale already had other incredible performances, like in “The Machinist” or in Steven Spielberg’s “Empire of the Sun”. He also is fit enough to play the role and he proved that he can be pretty dark and moody. We won’t have a skinny Batman again (Keaton and Kilmer!!) Nor a Happy Batman (Clooney and West). I for one am thrilled to see Bale as Batman ever since I watched “American Psycho” he was my fav for the role.

I've only seen American Psycho... but puuuulease. Bale couldn't've been the first choice for this role. Anyone can be trained to do well in a fight scene (Exhibit A: Jennifer Garner). And there have been plenty of better actors who can play a dark character a helluva lot better than this kid. I can understand going after a younger actor (Tom Cruise???) for the prequel feel, but c'mon... there's gotta be someone better. Ok, I'll admit this isn't as bad as casting Ben Afleck as Daredevil but...
hmmmmmmm...[transparency=50]TEXT[/transparency]
Who would've been the better Daredevil !!
Marx - March 13, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
Okay, this is slightly off topic. But what was really wrong with Daredevil? I loved that movie. Actually bought the DVD and I'm cheap as hell. Same with Electra which I've also heard really crappy things about despite how awesome I thought the movie was. Keep in mind I have never read a Daredevil or Electra comic only seen Daredevil's guest appearance in the Spiderman cartoon lol.

It was waaaaay off from the comics, but that's to be expected really.
I thought his blue sight sucked (why not red?) and the fact that they left out some essential characters sucked as well, but all in all it wasn't a bad movie.
Certainly not as bad as most people say.
My biggest complaint really is that there were no costumed badguys. Like Bullseye eve asks for a costume and then what's he get? Nothing!
I want some awesome costumage.
Robin - March 13, 2005 06:14 AM (GMT)
Tom Cruise could never play Batman. First off he's too short for the role. Second, I don't respect him after EYES WIDE SHUT. Plus his Mission Impossible Flicks sucked.
I agree with Fab, Bale is the perfect actor to play a young Batman. First off he is NOT a nobody. He's as you put it Stomp an 'accomplished actor'. And frankly he just oozes pissed off brooding youth far better than many other actors who just don't completely portay such a personality. For example Ben Afflec. You're kidding. That guy couldn't hold the Batman mantel. He's too... perky. He doesn't have a Batman feel.
And I agree with you Jake. The Daredevil wasn't as great as it could have been, but it did have its good points.
Shinobi - March 13, 2005 08:06 AM (GMT)
I liked the daredevil movie too. The guy they have playing kingpin should SO be in more movies. What in all has be been in? Green mile, Armaggedon, daredevil...any others?
Hey, HE should play batman
Nah I kid, I kid, i havent really seen Christian Bale so I cant really give an opinion on him, however I hold to the belief that the best actor to play batman was Micheal Keaton.
Jason Todd - March 13, 2005 09:06 AM (GMT)
Dude, Bale rocks....
I find Eqiulibrium to be better than the matrix movies (at least the last two)
Yeah he's the guy for repressed bitter rage. He's gonna be a better batman that Clooney or Kilmer (though I didnt really mind kilmer)
Also Batman Begins is FILLED with big namers including bale
Liam Neison and Morgan Freeman to name a couple.
Watch Equilibrium...thats all I can say
True Believer - March 13, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah, anyone trained can do a pretty cool fight scene (Keanu Reeves in The Matrix Trilogy) but can they do a very deep character such as Batman, if they lack acting skills? No (Keanu on everything else he ever done).
Bale rocks, he's not a nobody he is a very respected actor. And this whole cast rocks. We have Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabi and others.
"Batman Begins" not only has an awesome cast, but a good writer and a kickass director, so I'm thinking we are going to have the best Batman flick ever.
STOMP - March 13, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
Alan read slower. I never said Afleck should be batman. Do I look crazy? He hasn't done anything well since Goodwill Hunting.
Oh and qustion, who is playing alfred??? Can't be the old guy, although he was the only person keeping the last two Batman movies afloat. And although I'm praying that this one beats out &Robin and Forever... I don't think you can seriously hope that it will be better than Tim Burton's first two.
Burton is the only director to ever be able to portray Gotham as the really dark place it is. And I'm fairly certain he isn't even producing this one. So maybe its the direction of the roles and not the actors playing them that really matters.
Now Michael Clarke Duncan and Jennifer Garner aside, did anyone really like Daredevil. I mean, yes church fight scene was fun but it wasnt the best. And in my mind the picked a dumb superhero to do it. Like learning to see when he's blind is a cute story that marvel came up with. But isn't Daredevil just a blind guy who is slightly less handicapped than normal?
Jakazul - March 14, 2005 06:49 AM (GMT)
Man, I'm telling you, I know he's too old, but one of the best Batman IMO would be Kevin Conroy.
I mean sure, you're thinking "Isn't that thee guy that voiced the animated series?" And he is, but I think he looks like a good one too. (Below.)

HOWEVER. Cark Bartram, the guy who played Batman in Batman: Dead End and the World's Finest fanfilm, was the perfect Batman.

He had the voice, he had the looks, he had the costume, he had the attitude. He was Batman.
Robin - March 14, 2005 06:58 AM (GMT)
My mistake Stomp.
And all too true Jake. I wouldn't mind seeing Cark Bartram repise his role and costume in a real offically sanctioned Bat-film. I mean, the costume was perfect and the opening scene when he dropped onto the ground, with the cape sprawling out, was perfect.
And the Joker they had! They should have had him look that creepy in the first Batman film.
Jason Todd - March 14, 2005 10:06 AM (GMT)
I didnt see worlds finest But I though Dead End was cool (aside from the whole Batrang Blade style weapons; I know its trivial but its just me) and the Joker they had was pretty awesome
But I stand by Bale as Batman
atlantis - March 14, 2005 05:33 PM (GMT)
Anything i try to type sounds insulting.
Basically I really don't agree with you on any of your points Stomp.
STOMP - March 15, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm a scumbag. But that was a very polite way to put it, thanks! (Not insultive at all.) Ok more fun... Let's do the GL crew now. Cuz well, the GL fam includes some of the best characters ever because I said so. Sooooo...
Guy Gardner: ______________
John Stewart: ______________
Kyle Rayner: _______________
Alan Scott: ______________
Jade: ______________
hmmmmmmm.... Obsidian(That was his name, right?): _____________
AND STAR ROLE CUZ HE'S SO DANG COOL...
Hal Jordon: _____________
So basically, I think this will be more fun because I'm proposing basically casting a movie that hasn't been made yet.
STOMP - March 15, 2005 12:50 AM (GMT)
I should be shot.... Seriously I'm disgusted with myself right now...
SINESTRO: __________
Stepi01 - March 23, 2005 03:00 PM (GMT)
Here's my vote for the cast
Guy Gardner: Tom Sizemore (He's a little old, but he would be perfect)
John Stewart: Micheal Dorn or Micheal Clark Duncan
Alan Scott: I really don't know. Truely, I think it would have to be someone iconic.
Jade: Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (She's a model, and she's willing to do full body makeup)
Sinestro: Johnny Depp (I don't know why, I just think that would be neat) or Richard Roxburgh (who would probably be a much better choice)
I'm not sure about who to play Kyle Rayner, because its just so hard to cast him.
As for Hal Jordon: ME!!!!!!!! (Hey, I'm a good actor, and I did a pretty good job in a small fan-film I made [I'm currently finishing it])
That's my deal, and I'm sticking to it.
