History: Shortly after turning 19, Dinah followed in her mother's footsteps and took on the role of becoming the second Black Canary. During an encounter with her first advesary Dinah came across four other rookie crime fighters and together they formed the Justice League of America. The next few years of her life were spent adventuring with her fellow team mates, making the JLA a full time commitment.
During this period of time, Dinah Lance became romantically involved with Oliver Queen. When he decided to leave, she remained with the league but left shortly after. After leaving she met up with Oliver in Star City where the two teamed up with Hal "Green Lantern" Jordan to continue fighting crime. Some time later, whilst going through a rocky patch, Dinah took up a new costume and helped found a new incarnation of the Justice League. She didn't stay with the new team for long and instead went back to Oliver, where the two then moved to Seattle.
They'd faced aliens and supervillains together with the JLA and Green Lantern, but Seattle was a tougher, grittier city where they were faced with more common, everyday evils. They were on their own, too, in a way neither had been for years. There was nobody there to svae them if the need arose. In many ways this was exactly what Dinah wanted, but there were consequences. They both, during the course of separate investigations, suffered at the hands of torturers, and each ended up taking the lives of the other's torturers. As a result of her ordeal, Dinah lost her meta-human "canary" cry and the ability to have children.
Dinah and Oliver's relationship steadily grew worse as the years progressed but they both stuck it out until Oliver left. Dinah still clung to the belief that he would return. He did, but during that time away from him she became more devoted to stopping crime and fighting for justice. And both with and without Oliver she returned to her first love, crimefighting. After all the strains and frustrations and heartbreaks of their relationship which included Oliver's having a child with his mysterious sometime ally Lady Shado and a final straw of Dinah catching him kissing her friend and flower shop assistant Marianne, Dinah realized she could no longer stand to be with a man she loved so much but was forced to share with so many.
The next few months were even more difficult for her, shorlty after her break-up with Oliver their home "Sherwood Florist" burnt down, driving her even deeper into despair and making her somewhat suicidal. It was at that time that Oracle called asking for her to join a new team entitled "Birds of Prey", the new found purpose in her life gave her the strength to carry on.
Three years down the line Dinah's need to be rescued seemed to become epidemic while her seeming inability to really finish whatever job she'd been sent to do began to become quite apparent. By the time Dinah met and fell for Ra's Al Ghul.Dinah slowly became a more confident heroine and after a trip into Ra's's Lazarus Pit, she was completely heald of all her prior injuries, meaning the Canary Cry was back with a vengance.
Life started returning to normal and just as The Black Canary was about to get her life back in check, Oliver's return from the dead shook things up in her life. Interrupting the relationship she had established with fellow JSA member Doctor MidNite. His return also made her decision to be removed from the JSA active duty roster all the more clear. Her post-Lazarus Pit life is in a transitional phase where she's rediscovering and reasserting herself as a confident, powerful heroine.
