Personality: Duo's personality is incredibly unstable, she has suffered many hardships and tragedies in her life that has wreaked havoc on her emotions and cognitive processes.

To her enemies she can be vindictively cruel, often going to far in her attacks and sometimes doing more than simply immobilising her opponents, which often gets her disappointment from her team-mates and friends.

To her friends she is fiercely loyal ands wishes to help then in any way she can, she loves to interact with her friends and they bring out her bubbly personality that craves laughter, especially in the form of pranks!!!

She also relies heavily on her friends to support her when she has emotional relapses, she is often seen as sensibility made flesh in the erratic nature of her moods, she is incredibly vulnerable but also a fierce warrior capable of beating many who face her.

History:

She entered this world as Louisa Merquise; she left it in the same way.

Louisa Merquise was born on October 5th 1932, a treasure to her parents. Her life was rather simplistic, a smart young girl who studied hard at school being trained in the genderly stereotyped "home economics," although she excelled in the small amount of mathematics and restricted science of the time.

Also she was no stranger to the boys of her school, several had approached her in the attempt to court her, and the night of her departure from this world she had gingerly accepted to go out with the most prestigious, good looking and generous guy at her school, Charles Samson. After a wonderful evening he walked her home, save for the final stretch, as Louisa did not wish her father to grill her newfound boyfriend...it was the worst mistake of her young life...

A sadistic, vindictive, vicious man, named Simon Lister, accompanied by 6 others were waiting for her, they cut her off, circling about her, taunting and teasing the frightened girl...then the violence ensued.

The assault lasted an hour, the 7 fully grown men beating the helpless girl, decimating her body, leaving her a mass of pulped flesh, bruised and bleeding a Technicolor river. Her final words before the malicious Lister stomped on her face, effectively splintering her nose bone into her brain was "God...someone...save me..."

The young girl, virtually free of mortal sin was greeted in the limbo between realms by the angel Raphael, who had come to guide her soul to heaven. Louisa upon hearing that the people who had killed her would not receive judgement until they died was horrified at the prospect of them being able to repeat their actions and demanded that she be returned to Earth. Raphael claimed that this was impossible, so her cries fell upon a different set of ears...

Vittorio, servant to Satan, came to the distressed Louisa, floating in the mass of limbo, he offered her what she wanted...but for a price...her service to Satan, her undying allegiance...

Before Vittorio took on her decent to Hell, Raphael reached out to her one final time, clasping a hold of her to pass on a small gift from heaven for her life without sin...he granted her a set of pearl, white wings...

Vittorio, her sire if you will, trained the innocent girl, moulded her, feed her the essence of evil and taught her to crave violence, pain, death... and she took her oath to Satan, and was branded with his symbol in the form of a risen black emblem on her back to the left of her spine, and she was granted her weapon of choice, a green thermal scythe that comes and vanishes on her command.

For 55 years she served, killing, maiming, seeking those stained with the blood of innocence, seeking those who are tarnished by mortal sin, those who rape, those who assault, those who kill, those whose sadistic tendencies rule their lives as they pursue to decimate those about them, turning the lives of others sour for their own amusement...she sought them out and ripped out their souls.

Her wish had been granted, to defend the innocent, to prevent the evil from leeching off of them...but she had sold her own soul to accomplish this, tarnishing herself with every soul she ripped out, feeding them to Satan but retaining a little for herself, absorbing their memories and pasts...filling her with pain and darkness... She was named Shinigami, a herder of destruction, an Angel of Death!

Until...she met Wonder girl...it had been just a normal night out, she had been tracking him for a while, she reeked of sin, the blackness of his soul igniting her hunger so that it burned harshly, demanding to be quenched...

Wonder girl was in the midst of a battle with the notorious villain whose soul she had marred for the eating...and she was never one to loose a target, pushing aside the girl with golden locks she scalped the villain, lapping the blood of her fingers eagerly and then she proceeded to consume his soul... Wonder girl, along with the sudden help of Batman proceeded to battle the angel who made a hasty exit, satisfied with her night's work...

What happens from then to the point that Duo appeared in the hospital wing is a unknown mystery to all, the angel was discovered battered and bruised. Wonder girl, haunted by the sight of the beautiful angel drinking the blood and soul of a human was not about to past up the opportunity to grill the angel.

Duo, having being unconscious for several days and had not been able to feed on the dark matter of tainted souls was burning with hunger, her guts wriggling in pain from her hunger, so when Wonder girl came to visit...the urge to feed only grew! Seizing the teen hero Duo proceeded to rip the soul from Wonder girl...that day Cassandra Sandsmark died at the hands of a Demonic Angel!!! :huh:

But Cassandra's soul was not like the rest of them, it was laced with good intentions and deeds, pure and untainted...it scourged Duo inside, ripping through her painfully and the feelings of remorse, guilt and pain, for so long buried to the point they were dead, resurfaced...

Duo, in a state of hysteria, feeling fear needed to return the soul before it destroyed her inside...but she had never given back a soul before, this was unfamiliar territory...gathering all the strength and courage she had she forced back the soul into Cassandra...but the breath of life had left her...

Thankfully William Hayes, otherwise known as Harm, was able to take Cassandra to the other realm and revive her... (see Hunger)

Satan though was not impressed that he had been deprived of a soul, especially one so pure, one he could corrupt and violate...her demanded that Duo return and reclaim the soul or otherwise claim Harm's instead!

Duo, having been rudely re-introduced to her emotions, riddled with guilt gave the proposal to Wonder girl, not wishing to take hers of Harm's souls, so she conspired with the Teen Titans as to how they could defeat Satan!!!

She took the Teen Titans to hell with her and they fought a hellish battle, if they won, Satan would leave them be, if they lost, he would gain Wonder girl's and Robin's souls!!! Thank fully, with an extreme group effort, Harm and Duo sucked as much dark essence as they could stand out of Satan whilst the rest of the team held them tightly, letting their good souls wash the darkness from the two, leaving the devil prince himself weakened and vulnerable...the Titans and Shinigami were victorious...and with that Satan relinquished his hold on Duo...Shinigami, the angel of Death was free...and the Teen Titans eagerly accepted her into their ranks... She had much to learn, her innocence before her death and the harshness of here experience in Hell meant that she had no idea about the real world asides from the pain humanity causes one another...she showed her vicious side as she abused criminals with her interrogation methods, permanently scarring those she went up against, her methods frowned upon by the rest of her team and her methods proving to be a bad influence of Will. She also became a student at Elias High School for girls, her patience for schoolwork is very small at best and her classmates are put of by the hostile nature of the black eyed girl.

During an episode in which the Teen Titans switched bodies, Duo swapped with the illustrious Speedster, Super sonic, the experience enlightening him to the harshness of her hunger and the need to quench the darkness, also he got a front row seat to her horrific nightmares of her beating and death...making the malicious angel more understandable... This information came in handy when the murderous Vittorio came in search of his rouge squire, beating Duo to a bloody pulp and force feeding her some of his dark essence, turning the Angel back to her evil self with improvements, her wings turned a malicious black and her chestnut hair developed red tendrils and her eyes turned violet as she developed one of Vittorio's skills, to manifest and shape a rouge energy. In the process of her evil spell she beat, bruised and killed supersonic by ripping out his soul...if it weren't for the quick thinking of Will, teleporting the deranged Angel to the Neutral Death zone where she could no longer be influenced by Vittorio's presence all would have been lost, Duo got a grip of her strayed emotions and when returned she squared off against Vittorio while Harm restored Supersonic to health and teleported them and Wonder girl away.

Vittorio and Duo fought like tyrants and it was during the blows and angry words that Vittorio's anger source was discovered...he was in love with Duo, and it pained him that she had rejected Satan...the fight ended with Vittorio willingly giving up his soul to Duo, who accepted it, drinking him dry so his body turned to ash...as a result she retained the ability to conjure energy spears along with the red tendrils in her hair, but her wings were restored to their natural white! Despite having killed Marxy (Supersonic) the two forged a friendship strong as steel, Marxy forgiving Duo easily for he had a unique insight into her disposition. This friendship was Duo's salvation, after the girl came face to face, after 55 years, with Simon Lister...her killer...the grandfather of the little boy, Kelsey, who she baby sits for...

He was an old, frail, decrepit man who had built a life from the ruins of hers, he had a family, children, everything that Duo could never have!!! Even in his decrepit state he terrified her.

She had waited 55 years for this moment, the moment when they would meet again and she could claim her vengeance, so she could decimate him, peel the skin from his muscles, battered his face in as he had done to her...she made to kill him!!!

He scythe but an inch from splitting the sadistic old man's head in two...until a baby's cry broke through her fractured psyche...the sweet, innocent babe that was Kelsey stared wide-eyed in horror at the angel...he was terrified of her, of all that she was...and his fear stopped her heart cold...she ran from him...ran to the arms of her friend, to Supersonic. Marxy held her and comforted her until she fell into the realms of nightmares, promising never to leave her...

But he broke that promise...leaving the sleeping form of Duo he hunted down the old fragile form of Lister and proceeded to kill him, taking great delight in slicing his head into quarters...Duo Merquise had turned the light hearted, prankster of a speedster into a vicious killer!!! The pain in Duo's life was far from over, after learning that Marxy had taken a life she proceeded to cut herself off from her friend, not wishing to corrupt him any more that she already had done. Taking a break from the team she went to Africa on a solo mission, hunting down the source of mysterious, mystical fires that were killing whole tribes...it was on this mission that she encountered Raido X, a tormented soul whom appeared to die on the mission to save her life and the world, leaving in her possession a set of twin guns, that she now carries faithfully at her side as she promised X. Several months after her encounter with Vittorio and Lister, the supposed death of X, all the pain mounting in her life along with her cutting herself off from her best friend...life decided to take things to a whole knew level...

Satan had lost to the power of a minor demon...he could not let such an act rest...he would decimate Shinigami if it were the last thing he ever did...

Lister's sadist work had made him stand out, so Satan took advantage of his death, reinstating him as a demon he sent him back to Earth, his mission, to drive the angel insane!!!

Lister proceeded to hunt down each of Duo's friends one at a time and beat them to within an inch of their lives, starting with Harm, whose body was beyond recognition by the time he was finished, then Cassie who was both beaten and molested, leaving the girl with mental scars of attempted rape. Next was Omega, the mutated version of X, then Greta, almost suffering the same fate as Cassie...and eventually he kidnapped Supersonic, taking him to the alley where he had killed Louise Merquise 55 years ago.

Duo, feeling responsible for all the pain that had been inflicted on her friends decided that she could never put them at risk again, especially since the titans and Young Justice had failed to stop him...

She decided to make the ultimate sacrifice...she made to commit suicide...rising over the sea she seared off both her wings and dropped to the sea below...sinking into the abyss so she could finally sleep...

Supersonic, healed by the mysterious Wraith, raced to the sea in time to save Duo...but Duo was beyond mentally scarred, frightened, weakened, vulnerable and broken...the angel of Death is without her wings and mentally fragile, desperately dependent upon her best friend Supersonic, who is as vulnerable as she is after enduring a similar beating to her... Duo Merquise is a powerful woman with the ability of will to defeat those who oppose her in her fight for redemption...but recently she has been reduced to a broken, weak, deeply reliant on her friends, little girl...her emotions are haywire and her unstable mind makes her both a powerful ally and a major liability...
