Title: Dungeons & Dragons

Sir Maverick - October 30, 2004 09:50 PM (GMT)
Anyone here play D&D? Just out of curiosity. If so, what campaign world, what race, all those fun questions....

I'm an FR player myself....Working on a new chara for a new campaign ((*lavishly praises Unearthed Arcana and high-powered campaigns*))

Phelan - November 5, 2004 02:02 PM (GMT)
Let's see, I've played every campaign world except Spelljammer, Birthright, and Al-Quadim though I haven't done very much with Eberron yet. I'm currently running a campaign that is low-tech, low-magic, and low-powered. All the PCs started with 10 in their stats before racial adjustments.

As for characters, look here.

I don't have any of my 2nd Edition characters up yet because the code for the character sheet is difficult to get right. I'm still playing with it. As for the characters there, those are just the most notable ones I've played out of a decade long run with D&D.

Sir Maverick - November 5, 2004 02:29 PM (GMT)
10 in all stats? But, PCs are supposed to be exceptional....Besides, I'd miss the straight 16s I rolled. ((I'm not kidding you.)) I don't know anything about Al-Quadim, but Spelljammer and Birthright sound fun, and should be ported to 3.5. I'm a new addition to the D&D world, and I've only done 3.x.

How's Eberron seem so far? I've got the campaign setting on my comp (I'm going to buy it, but it's easier to preview by dling), and it looks rather cool. For now, though, I've got a pretty good campaign figured out for FR.

Newbie!

*points and ridicules, then remembers he hasn't played D&D since the 2nd Edition...*

*blushes and slinks back into the shadows*

Perhaps, but I know the rules better than a lot of the players who've been playing for extended periods of time. Hell, I had the majority of the PHB memorized within the first week of having it in my hands (not including spells).

Yeah, I know...I used to play D&D, then later AD&D, all the time...but I stopped a while ago.

Sir Maverick - November 5, 2004 04:34 PM (GMT)
Why'd you stop? 3.x is much better than AD&D, 2.0, whatever you wish to call it. There's a few who would argue, but not many. ((I looked through my best friend's AD&D stuff...3.x is MUCH simpler))

You must remember - I LIKE complexity.

I stopped because I didn't have access to the materials I needed, and frankly, I'd lost interest in fantasy and focused on sci-fi material.

Sir Maverick - November 5, 2004 04:45 PM (GMT)
Ah, I see. I never said 3.x wasn't complex in its own way. It's just more easily understood. Less number-crunching means more role-playing. Try d20 Modern. There's supplements for it for futuristic settings. And there's always the Star Wars d20 RPG...

That POS?

I'm not touching that thing with a nuke...not even to blow it into its constituant atoms.

Hmm...I found someone who agrees with me. The D20 version of Star Wars is almost as bad as the original system (d6) it was in.

As for 2nd Edition, I prefer some aspects of it to 3rd and 3.5 but by the same token there are things about those editions I prefer over 2nd. My last group developed what we jokingly called 2.5 as a way to combine the best of the editions.

As for high-powered games, here's one I've played in: Every PC has straight 18s and you start at 5th level....in Hell. Have fun getting out. Yeah, that was a real interesting one.

As for right now, I find myself gravitating away from D&D in favor of WoD games and some Sci-Fi roleplaying (still can't find a Rifts game to play in).

Eberron, like I said I haven't done much with it. From what I can tell its more or less a campaign setting that with the right DM and group of players could be really, really good. However I think that what it's going to level out as is, at best, nothing special and at worst something that on the surface looks good, but has no substance for the players to go of off. Alot like DarkSun from 2nd edition.

Sir Maverick - November 5, 2004 06:12 PM (GMT)
Eberron will have plenty of substance if you make a regular habit of visitin WotC's site. They've got lots of stuff for Eberron.

Straight 18s, 5th level, in HELL?! *smirks* Sounds fun. We're starting 7th for my campaign, using lots of houserules (most from Unearthed Arcana, but we roll stats. I just got lucky. But Gestalt is awesome (so is FR's spellfire, but that's staying out of player hands for now, even my DMPC). We don't have a large group, so I play my own chara too. Silent type. Easier to not metagame that way.

@Retal: I wouldn't know. I haven't looked at it, as I can't stand Star Wars. I just know it exists.

The Zombie - November 5, 2004 07:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I played D&D. I still do as a matter of fact. Silver Half-Dragon, attained the age and power of Great Wyrm.

I have also played: Vampire the Masquerade. I was 2nd Gen Tremere...

What's your class? ANd please don't tell me you're a sorcerer who took the Dragon Disciple class, as I'll hurt you.

The Zombie - November 5, 2004 09:07 PM (GMT)
Bah, I'll have to find my character sheet to tell you that... I used alot of melee weapons in cunjunction with spells. Can't find the sheet right now, but I know my character used those. Why, whats the deal with sorcerer and the Dragon Disciple thing?...

Hmm...those were a pair of permissive GMs.

So, how exactly did you go about diab-ing Cain?

As for the Dragon Disciple/Sorcerer combination, don't knock it if it works. I've done similar things as well.

The Dragon Disciple in 3.5 got seriously nerfed. It wasn't that great too start. But now it gets bonus spells. No additional spells known, nothing like that. Oh, and it gets an average BAB. It's not worth taking 10 levels of to get the template of a LA+3 template. Note that this is assuming you're playing 3.5. It wasn't really bad in 3.0. Not great, but not really bad. In 3.5, it really doesn't work.

The Zombie - November 5, 2004 09:23 PM (GMT)
Diablerize Cain? I was a 2nd Gen Tremere... 1st Gens were Methuselahs... which were Cains first childer... My group broke up before we even ame across a 1st gen vampire... which I wanted to diablerize so icould boast about Diablerizing a Methuselah...

You got the terminology confused.

Caine was the 1st generation. He's the only one of this Generation.
His Childer were the 2nd generation; they were all killed.
The 3rd Generation are the Antediluvians, vampires that existed before Noah's Flood. The Antediluvians were the Childer of the 3nd generation and killed their Sires. This is why Cain cursed them. The Antediluvians were also the Founders of the Clans.
The 4th and 5th Generations are collectively known as Methuselahs though the term can refer to any vampire of great age and power.

By the way, what was your Humanity Score?

The Zombie - November 5, 2004 09:37 PM (GMT)
Bah, I haven't played in a while... So my mem is a little off. It is coming back though... I was a 5th gen Tremere that while on an investigation in some ancient ruins came upon a slumbering Antedeluvian. I got lucky on a dice roll and was able to Diab him, Bringing me down to a 3rd Gen. Later on I did something and was advanced to a second gen. How I did what I did I cannot remember... wish i could though... My humanity? Errr... I think it was somwhere in the middle, I know I had no qualms about killing something or feeding., but i didn't kill unless necessary.
