Title: Abstract art
Hetman - November 18, 2004 01:20 PM (GMT)
I was wondering how makes abstract art with photoshop here... I'm currently learning how to make abstract art and boy.... it has alot of steps. :D
I'm the dummy with those damned kick ass abstract tutorials at the moment. At least I can follow it properly and sometimes, I do my own thing and do something different to the tutorials and stuff, and experimenting... Experimenting is good rather than reading a tutorial... unless your newb... I'm a newb at abstract now... :\\
Blade - November 18, 2004 04:52 PM (GMT)
Use brushes.... And filtlers in Photoshop. That's always a good start.
Hetman - November 20, 2004 08:29 AM (GMT)
Well, do you (well... I... me) need to make new brushes for abstract right?
And yeah, I know how to use the filters for Photoshop and mucking around with Hue/Sat function.
Blade - November 21, 2004 02:46 AM (GMT)
No you don't need to make new brushes; there are plenty of default ones. If you do, however, want to be even mor abstract, you can do so.... If you have a tablet, then you're even better off without making brushes; it's almost pointless to make new brushes unless you will frequently use them.

A filter! FILTERS ARE FOR NOOBS, the only real way to create your own art is to make it using brishes the spray brush and things like that. Using filters doesnt truely create your own art. Its just a manipulation of a programs built in powers.
Hetman - November 21, 2004 05:23 AM (GMT)
:\
Yeah, after you make a piece of abstract art just solely using brushes, then I will believe you.

i hope you realize that your banner is mostly made up of filters...

Couple of brushes too though, methinks.
And he said it was for n00bs, he didn't make it.. So he'd, in a way, be calling Blade a n00b. *tut-tut-tut*
I've always liked the backgrounds and stuff Blade uses for his sigs, like in his current one. Wouldn't mind learning how to mess around with some brushes to make some effects and stuff.
Don't suppose you've got a link of some tutorials, Hetman? Maybe I'll see if I can do anything similar in GIMP..

I don't use custom brushes, other than the ones that come with GIMP or ones I made. Filters are fun for silly things, but I don't use them for actual art much...
I have used a few gradients on serious pics though. No lens flares, but does that mean I'm going to Photoshop Hell :p?

Din't make my Signature and i only care if it looks good but it's not realy art unless you do it by hand. AKA no filters.

gee, who should I believe...
and even if you didn't make your own banner...
| QUOTE (YOUR sig) |
| Good banner by blade |
hmm, didn't you say filters were for n00bs??? i must be seeing things...
oh and by saying that, you call me a n00b too as well as tons of other people...therefore...

I don't feel like arguing it's MY I think its a good signature it just doesn't go along with my definiton of art.
Hetman - November 22, 2004 05:18 AM (GMT)
If thats your idea of art, then you are completely ignorant. Art takes in many forms and a computer generated graphics is one of the forms.
Do you have a scanner or a graphic tablet/drawing block? Because I wanna see you make a signature completely hand-drawn. I have seen a few good ones, with including editting for colours and such. If you express that opinion of 'art', then I wanna see what you can do, before criticizing others.

Then obviously your definition of art is very vauge and thus not worth another thought. Art is anything. ANYTHING. I don't see you with any peices of artwork. As well, I would suggest not saying people who use filters are noobs. Blade has every right to take back your sig at any time, as well as anyone else as long as he refunds the Ze's you paid. So yeah, I would watch your Noob mouth. After all, YOU are a new. A Noob to RPGing. Your battles are only proff of that. As well, your cocky attitude and rediculas belief that you know things you fake on this forum to seem cool is rather annoying. Quit trying to act cool, or make smart ass comments. You are only making yourself look bad, as well you loss the respect of alot of members when you mouth off.
Filters are fun to work with. No one here has said using filters is completely freehand art. NO ONE! Filters help do what some of us can't do. Your paint brush aids you to put the paint on cavas. IS that not the same as a filter to an extent? It's basically an aid in getting the effect that you want. Plus, it takes alot of knowlege to make your won filter effects. Knowlege of which someone like you have never obtained. So yeah, I repeat, you have no room to talk.
I myself like filters. It saves me from having to do it all by hand and have errors. I am a perfectionist with my art and thus my crappy free hand attempts are no satisfactory. So, filters aid me there. They are fun to use anyways.
Anyways, thats enough babble from me. *runs off to use filters and enjoy it since she is just a Noob* Lycan

Lycan, you sure can make a mountain out of a mole hill.
It's his opinion, just because he doesn't class some things as art doesn't mean his definition of art is "not worth another thought".
He's been here for quite some time, and the RPG holds nothing over the rest of the board.
And if you're going to go about criticizing other peoples attitudes and beliefs, Dark Monk is not the person to be directing your opinion. You yourself have caused quite some commotion within the forums for your opinions, beliefs, and way you are. So don't go judging other people for not being like you, or disagreeing with your, or anyone else’s opinion.

Speaking of mountains. I haven't had a Mountain Dew for a long while now... :P
Cap, have you tried those photoshop-based tutorials with GIMP yet?
Capitila - November 27, 2004 04:59 AM (GMT)
Umm... Eh.... About that.. *cough*
Nope, haven't had much time. Or made any time to be more precise.
I might get stuck into one later today, Gunbound and other things have been eating up my time. And we're still doing some work at school.. Which sucks.
*Couple of hours later*
Well, I read the tutorials, and I'm pretty sure most of it can be done, but not by copying the steps exactly. And gimp lacks a couple of the features.
I didn't make anything with them, just read.
