Title: Same Subject
Description: Over and over and over and over

TheBlackCat - July 31, 2004 04:03 AM (GMT)
Anyone have one of those subjects or topics you have learned so many times in school that if you ever hear it mentioned again you will be sick? Topics teachers have covered like it is new to you so many times you can do it in your sleep? I am curious if anyone else has seen this, so post if several different classes have seperately taught you the same topic. Even if it is not to that degree, if you have had to re-learn a certain topic several times post it here.

Ugh...yes, definately perspective for me. It's like... ughhhh, been over that 34507 times before! I'll do it if I want to!

Anything having anything to do with English class. 'nuff said.

EARTH SCIENCE! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! *runs into a wall*

I HATE IT. YES I KNOW THE LAYERS OF THE EARTH AND HE DIFFERENT ROCKS ALREADY CAN WE DO SOMETHING ELSE FOR LIKE 2 MONTHS. I like science and all but I was never one to care for rocks, unless they were fossils. Why not go over dinosaurs more often... or insect... or reptiles...or fish....OR SOMETHING THAT HASNT BEEN DONE EVERY SINGLE YEAR!

Judging by the state of the internet, the world NEEDS more English classes. Tougher ones, ones that don't allow kids to turn in papers full of internet slang or have them still having "find the nouns!"-type lessons in seventh grade...

*muttermumble*

I'll second the perspective thing...the kind where you have to pick a point or two points, and then use your ruler and make all those buildings? Aiiie.

TheBlackCat - July 31, 2004 04:34 PM (GMT)
I have two topics that have been covered over and over, each time the professor assuming it is new to me: Vectors (including dot and cross product, etc, probably about 7 times) and the Takoma Narrows Bridge (every professor thinks this is the coolest thing and just has to show you, probably about 6 times), . The problem with these topics are, they may be interesting but there just isn't that much too them. Each professor covers identical material on it, there is just no room to add on or explain it more deeply. Other topics might be taught several times, but they always teach you a little more about it each time.

Shadow Tigress - July 31, 2004 04:38 PM (GMT)
I agree with what Tilly said. Right now, there are students (at the high school where my friend Joker will be attending this year) who don't know how to write a paragraph or even a simple essay...at the 12th grade level. I kid you not. How to use subject verb agreement...you might as well be speaking a foreign language to them. But then, some don't care about using proper grammar anyway. To them, its better to appear 'hip and cool' then to be smart...*smh*

Going over the same rules of using perspective over and over again while in middle school, high school and on to college gave me an headache. x.X

XenoNoOni - July 31, 2004 10:15 PM (GMT)
Yes, I know how you feel. But isn't that why they have special classes? If you can make it to 12th grade and not be able to write an essay, then something is seriously wrong with you. Though I have to say, there are a lot of people in my school who have something seriously wrong with them. They write like they talk almost, "sup dawg. wut wit chu." Honestly, what is that? Then there are the wannabe computer geeks who use internet slang "2 luk c00l." I have to admit that the level of education in American is going down fast, but at the same time I highly dislike going over what a verb is when I'm in high school. They should put all the people who can't do things the correct way into LD classes and let that be that.

JammerLea - July 31, 2004 10:15 PM (GMT)
I never had any decent lessons on grammar. I didn't even know what a verb was until 8th or 9th grade. Luckily I grew up around people who use good grammar, so I use it naturally. Though considering around half of my grade school used "ebonics" (if it's okay to call it that), I can go the other way too. XD

This summer in college, I took a class that only Juniors and Seniors can get into and our teacher gave us grammar packs. I guess there were that many problems with some of the papers. At least now I know about misplaced modifiers.

Ah, I really can't remember anything else that I've learned many times over.

What school do you go to? The teachers there mustn't know how to teach... The ones I had wouldn't even look at the 1st draft unlees they knew you had done a good job at it. And grammar? If we sand darn they would gripe at us for not saying d**n...

Sometimes it is good to repeat a thing, but someimes it isn't... remembers speech class... uugghh... I hated that class with a passion.

You'd be surprised at the number of people inserting internet lingo in their schoolwork. The internet has made people not want to type correctly anymore, because they're very lazy and typing normally it 'takes too long.' U R G8t isn't an uncommon sight to see in essays nowadays, and yes, I'm talking high school and college level. COLLEGE!

Kirbymaster212 - August 1, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
Am I the only one with the earth science problem... because my teachers keep saying things like:

"I know its annoying, but its on every state test"

or

"You need to know this!"

and crap like that.... I would think everyone went through that... or is still going through *points to self*

Most likely not, but talking about Earth Science (Isn't that what Geography is?) isn't as exciting as talking about how people are just too lazy to spell properly nowadays.

Kirbymaster212 - August 1, 2004 12:28 AM (GMT)
Its not really geography... well kinda, its about earthquakes, rocks, volcanoes, layers of the earth, etc. just talking about it makes me mad

The Zombie - August 1, 2004 01:22 AM (GMT)
Actually about the state test thing: THATS A LOAD OF CRAP!!! There is very little ogf it on state tests (unless you live in California or something...) Now Aquatic science was alright. I could watch the fish swim if i got bored...

COLLEGE?! WHAT!? The instructors must be just as lazy as the students...

JammerLea - August 1, 2004 06:00 AM (GMT)
My instructors haven't been lazy, they're just rather disappointed that we never learned that stuff in grade/high school. I don't know how it is exactly as I don't have that problem. I really HATE net speak and I'd probably have to hurt myself if I ever used it like that.

How ironic....

Never heard of Aquatic Science before.

Oh, my ability to effectively use spelling and grammar has been deteoriating pretty steadily since I was about 11 years old. I think that was my high-point :/

I don't run into much duplication I can't rush past in most of my subjects.

*notices how the majority of posties in this topic are at least 15 years old*

'Chat Speak' has also become very common now in the UK for kids. It isn't so much the interenet which started it over here, but it was the mobile phones (which I think people in the US call Cell Phones). It was text messaging which started it all off in the UK. There was a severe limit to how many characters could be put in a single text message at a time, and so, people had to resort to lots of 'shortening of words'.
Chat Speak is something I cannot stand either. I was talking to girl I know over MSN who goes to my school and the amount of chat speak she used at points in the conversation easily got me confused about what she was talking about.

Ugh.. I say Chat Speak should be BANNED! I also say that teachers should show pupils what Chat Speak causes and also explain why it is not good to use it, as it shows lack of intelligence.
