Description: It's hack but no DLs but it works

ZeRoRaVeN - January 9, 2005 06:11 PM (GMT)
Go here at hackaday.com

Follow the instructions and firefox's speed will increase by a huge amount, it works, trust me.

VegaObscuraTheKing - January 9, 2005 11:24 PM (GMT)
Already did that...that's what a meant by "optimized it" in the original firefox post.

*glare* Somehow, knew you where gonna say that.

It's like you follow me around mocking my posts.

No...I don't mock you...I inform you. And yes, i had found this the first day I had gotten firefox and it did work for me. I was informing you of such.

ZeRoRaVeN - January 10, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
I didn't have to know that.

VegaObscuraTheKing - January 10, 2005 01:17 AM (GMT)
And I can say the same to you.

BACK ON TOPIC, however.

Firefox seemed to run well enough and, as there is no immediate jump in performance, the improvements this "fix" gives isn't as noticeable. If you crank that one (the numerical value one) option up a bit more, it should be more noticable as more inquiries are being sent at the same time.

In theory, productivity should increase....or it will crash. Probably the former.

I just did it, does it speed up downloads too?

ZeRoRaVeN - January 10, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure, but I noticed a huge increase in speed, I set the as number 30, their recommended number.

DefaultPeanut - January 10, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
How do you save it with those settings? Every time I restart FF those settings go away.

Hetman - January 10, 2005 08:46 AM (GMT)
Heh, I haven't noticed much of difference ever since I port forwarded. :\

Capitila - January 10, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
Only for cable internet users, so that's no good for me. I don't like the idea of everyone using it though, it just puts more strain on the other people viewing the same web page as your browser and also the server.
Meh, it's not something I'd ever use just to speed up an already fast connection (compared to my 56k).
Whatever floats your boat, even if it is a tad on the dark side.

Edit: "...some sites will ban you for doing this. You are basically making about a million connectiong to a server which will eventually make it crash."

See..

VegaObscuraTheKing - January 10, 2005 10:06 PM (GMT)
But if you limit yourself to 20 or 30, then you are not smashing the server to a pulp...its merely an upgrade...hell...if i wanted a million connections, that might do it...but 30? I don't know...

30 doesn't seem much different than 20

ZeRoRaVeN - January 10, 2005 10:17 PM (GMT)
Well yes this is an eithnic question, if you want to speed up firefox then you would do this, but then on the other side the server is handling the strain.

@peanut: what did you do? Just type/change the values and then restart FF, it should work.

DefaultPeanut - January 10, 2005 11:28 PM (GMT)
It works but after I reboot my comp all the changes are lost.

K-62 - January 10, 2005 11:49 PM (GMT)
Its probaly your internet.

ZeRoRaVeN - January 11, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
Hmmm...maybe you have some security software, something is resetting your FF.

|8|)219 - January 30, 2005 04:05 PM (GMT)
Weird..I see no difference..

ZeRoRaVeN - January 30, 2005 07:20 PM (GMT)
If the server you're connecting to is slow then you can't do nothin' bout it..but if you're connecting to some ultra-high speed (or browsing actualy) server then you'll see the difference.....
