Title: Team Base Forums

ChibiTysan - January 15, 2005 03:51 AM (GMT)
Hay this is a suggestion I thought about. Maybe each team that is formed, that is active has its own like forum section.

Like say I have the alpha team

U make a small forum spot on the site called Alpha Team.
Does this sound good?

Enzo Strife - January 15, 2005 04:03 AM (GMT)
it's been done in other rpg's, but the problem is privacy, we have to debate that issue like protected forums. But your idea sounds great.!

Capitila - January 15, 2005 04:26 AM (GMT)
Meh, we don't have that many active teams in need of their own sub forum really.
It's fairly easy to do, and then you can easily enough put in under password protection. But do we really need it?

ChibiTysan - January 15, 2005 05:10 AM (GMT)
I thought it would be pretty cool and better for the teams that cant communicate through anything else, so they would talk in there in privacy. :P P word yuck

Drk-X - January 15, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
one problem...it uses up a ton of space if every single team had their own board...

Well, I have seen a few incidents about privacy and how mods/g-mods/admins can just raid through the password protection and read it everything. But I don't think its really needed. If you wanna go to tactics, make your own invisionfree.com board and PM your team-members of the boards existence, or start an AIM conversation if everyone on your team has AIM or some other alternative that I haven't mentioned yet...

But then again, there isn't really a point to this. You can discuss tactics/strategies freely over PM anyway... and team roleplays aren't a big deal to keep it locked up from everybody else. If someone is bothering you, just ask a RPG mod or something useful besides yelling at him/her, also this RPG isn't really competitive either so the privacy doesn't really matter.

ChibiTysan - January 15, 2005 02:50 PM (GMT)
Well I really dont care about the : P word. But I thought it would be kind of cool to like start topics for your own team and what eva.

König Warrior - January 15, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
Is it possible? Yes, is it easy? Yes, do I really think it's nessesary? No, do I want to do it? Not really.

So yeah.. lets just leave it at that, it is an interesting idea, but I'd rather not.

|8|)219 - January 17, 2005 12:07 AM (GMT)
Whats wrong with taking up space? I mean, its a free board. And if it slows your comp down, thats your fault.. But yeah, its not necessary..If you need to discuss stuff with your team get MSN or AIM.

Capitila - January 17, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
Who said anything about it slowing your computer down? And how is it your fault if it does? There's many of us, like me, who can't be bothered spending hundreds of dollars upgrading their computer, that's a choice, not "our fault".
Meh, I'm getting broadband next week, and some free ram, so I can't complain.
And many people can't use AIM or MSN to communicate with team mates, due to it being real time and the different time zones.

Drk-X - January 17, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
*coughprivatemessagescough*

simple...

Hetman - January 17, 2005 08:14 AM (GMT)
Invisionfree.com

If you know how to squeak it (learning is good too), then might as well use it.

To get you started:

Admin CP > New Catergory > Name whatever, set it to visible.
Admin CP > New Forum > insert name of forum. Note: Not the board, call it discussions or something like that, go down and turn on 'Quick Reply Box' under 'Postable Forum Options', then go down to 'Default date cut off for topic display' change that to 'show all', and lastly in 'Permission Access Levels', press the plus thing for Admin mask, and press the plus thing for Member mask. If you want to, untick 'Upload' for both Admin and Member masks.

Now, your done. Press 'Create this forum' and viola!

Zelos - January 17, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
Um, Hetman, Konig Warrior, me, Steel, and Jammer all know HOW to create forums (Obivously, otherwise how would we have all these) and also how to set permissions and passwords and stuff like that (otherwise you would be able to see the Admin/Mod forums)

The thing people don't tend to think about is that sometimes an Admin doesn't WANT to go around making a private forums for everyone who asks. When the regular team base forums and PMs serve people fine, I know I certainly wouldn't want to have to make a forum for every single team in exsitance.

If you really want your own private forum, make your own board that's only viewable to a certain member group and sign everyone in the team up as that group (Admin's can create new usernames through the Admin CP, this allows them to be in a certain user group immediatly)

ZeroFalcon - January 17, 2005 04:45 PM (GMT)
Umm, Zelos, I kinda think that Forte was talking to Chibi...

ChibiTysan - January 17, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
>_> Hay I did that thanks for the reply Zelos.

You shoudlnt have to..And thats not what I meant by it being someones fault. Anyways, I dunno, I always hear mods saying if we added stuff it would slow down the board.

König Warrior - January 17, 2005 07:55 PM (GMT)
The board does have a limit of space I believe.. not sure...

I wished 'wise ass' could come and answer this question. Right about now.

Zelos - January 18, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
Ah, hehe, sorry about that. Got a little mixed up there <_<

And the "wise-ass" better not be me, but I believe IF gives infinite space and bandwith. Let me check...

6. What limits exist on the free service?... We provide 16MB of space for uploaded files. You can purchase more space if you need it. You must agree to our Terms of Service. We do not limit the bandwidth (data transfer) of your forum. In addition we do not impose a limit on the number of posts, topics, or members your free forum has.

Okay, I think you got confused there. Each board recieves 16MB of space tp UPLOAD files to (such as board hosted images and such).

Bandwith is infinite until the server is overloaded (nothing to stop that from happening).

Posts, topics, member, and I'm assuming forums are all also infinite (within server boundries, of course)

Umm, like I have a suggestion... Make a suggestion pertaining to the RPG in the RPG Feedback section... Umm, yeah.. What do you think??/

Anyways, thats a bad Idea.. Why do we need ourown sections for teams? Post in the team base for team related things, battle in the battefield forum, and discuss new members in the team sign up section. Whats to add? What could a team need to do that would justify giving them anymore room to post?

More places to RP, different threads for different sections of the base.
Wolf Blade had about 3 or 4 threads just for our one base, at one point in time.

And the wise-ass is not you, Zelos. Its a name that I liked to call Steel with, before he became an admin. He's fairly knowledgable at this kind of stuff and can easily summarize and clear up stuff, especially for his age. During a private message, I betted that Steel will become an admin after stopping a few fights and kept control of the board in its chaotic state during a reset. And poof, he did...

KW had permission from Duowolf, so I think its okay if you asked KW that you made multiple threads, one for each purpose like discussion, notice board and such but thats not a wise idea since some threads will get flushed after a period of non-activeness.

König Warrior - January 18, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
Which is mainly why I don't do the multiple threaded base anymore.

I thought Forte was calling me wise-ass.... maybe he thought I was Steel?

I told people we have a certain amount of space...

As for the number of posts and how much space a board take up on the server... its really up to the server Admins to notify a board if they are taking too much space on the server.
