Title: Browser woes
Description: What do you use?
Capitila - February 6, 2005 06:16 AM (GMT)
I had a spot of trouble with Firefox, so I thought I'd see what everyone else uses.
Screenshot. The biggest annoyance from all of it was my bookmarks, it got rid of every single bookmark I had. In total that's about 320.
Well, I probably shouldn't of been messing with Firefox in the first place, but that's not the point. Luckily for me I created a backup of all bookmarks, so they just need to be organised. T_T
Took almost an hour to get it working again, and I'm still at the loss of the 15 odd extensions and 10 skins.
So yeah, what Internet browser do you use?
Zelos - February 6, 2005 06:30 AM (GMT)
You were messing around with the skin files, weren't you :P
But, yeah, I use Firefox as well. And I love it even more so know that I got my new Logitech MX310 (I wanted the 510, but it was out of my price range) and have assigned the side buttons to next/close tab. Makes it far more convienent and easier to browse around, so much so I don't even have to move anything but my fingers anymore :D Well, until I go to open a bookmark, link, or type something in... And yes, I am extremely lazy.

IE....>> Because I'm too computer-stupid to know how to use anything else! XD
Zelos - February 6, 2005 07:02 AM (GMT)
It's prety much impossible not to know how to use FireFox, it's designed so even a five year old could use it with ease.
Try it out, you can get it for free
here

I wish I could vote for Firefox and K-meleon...I use/used K-meleon on my old computer that had issues with Firefox. Go obscure browsers.
I've used Lynx too...and Netscape 4 to test stuff :p.

Okay, to tell the truth I've never even tried Firefox...call me lazy or whatever....meh. =P

FireFox >> IE
I use IE for diagnostic purposes...
Capitila - February 6, 2005 10:22 AM (GMT)
Diagnostic purposes? Like what? o_O
I only use it to check html, but I spose that doesn't really count as diagnostics.
But in all areas, Firefox is so much better than IE. Mouse over a link and press the scroll button in. That was the first thing I noticed in Firebird, and I couldn't live without it now.
I might have a look into Lynx, I like uncommonly used things.. Meh.
ZeRoRaVeN - February 6, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
Firefox.
That same thing happened to me, well the bookmark one. One day Firefox got rid of my skins and BOOKMARKS! Years and years worth, well actualy i started from scratch... and I forgot to backup...backup is the most important thing!
What is wrong with firefox.....my bookiemarks...all gone....*sob* but the strange thing was the bookmarks under the folders (yes I actualy use them) were intact and unharmed but the ones not in folders went bye bye. A bug maybe.

I use Firefox, but only because IE started freezing my computer. I have issues with Firefox too. It likes to eat my RAM sometimes, but it doesn't freeze my system. I only use IE for homestead.
Shadow Tigress - February 7, 2005 12:22 PM (GMT)
I notice my comp would slow down sometimes whenever I use Firefox. But other then that, no major problems...tis far. No freezing of the system either. *wacks IE*
Wolven Zero - February 7, 2005 06:45 PM (GMT)
Firefox is still not really bug-free totally! Remember, it is still a very new browser!
Yet dispite this small errors and faults, Firefox beats nearly if not every browser so far.
Netscape 9 has a nasty bug, where you don't just lose the bookmarks from the list, but Netscape over-writes the file which has the bookmarks in. @_@
HaTcH - February 7, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Firefox rocks. ... XD I made a funny!
Lynx.. I thought that was a textual browser for Unix systems.. ehh whatever.
Been using FireFox for quite soem time, still have all the old installation files.
Cap, do you have the most recent version? Perhaps you can just reinstall.
Tilly - February 7, 2005 09:00 PM (GMT)
Text-based, yeah...but there's a Windows version. I wanted to see how my site would look in it. Answer? A bit wonky, but readable.

Netscape 9? Did I miss something here? Either I'm waay out of date in the browser wars(well not so much competition any more) or you mistyped. I think the newest version is Netscape 7.2 FYI.
Text-based? You mean there's still a little group holding out? Hey! Welcome to Images and Flash! (I love Flash!)

Firefox..what else?
IE sucks...At one point, I had 7 pop-up blockers, and not one worked..It freezes up like crazy too.

I uninstalled about 3 times before realising it wouldn't work. When you unninstall it doesn't get rid of the profile/chrome folder in your system files, (different for win 98 to XP, for some reason) which is where everything was giving me problems.
So I backed that up and when I installed again it created a new folder and worked fine, minus the extensions, themes and bookmarks.
Meh, she works now, and I don't have too many useless extensions, and didn't lose anything important.

Woops, sorry, yes, that was indeed a typo. Thanks for the correction.

Well 7 pop-up blockers with probably conflict with each other and plus that means loading plenty of components for IE, that was probably your problem.
