Title: My cat is missing
Description: What should I do?
ZeRoRaVeN - June 6, 2005 12:05 AM (GMT)
Ok approx 22 hrs ago I let my cat out at night. 2 hrs later I checked back to see if he came back. Nada...usualy if I let him out at night he comes back midnight or early morning.
BUT HE HASNT COME BACK.
I've conducted a search around my block and surronding blocks, nada.
If he doesn't appear by tommorrow I'm going to put up missing posters and maybe a reward. Well does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
I tried salietlle photos but keyhole doesn't like my address. <_<
MrGuy - June 6, 2005 12:28 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't worry too much yet. My cat's went missing for three days once (she's an indoor cat) and she turned up unharmed. Sometimes cats just like to wander off and do stuff. I've seen cats chase squirrels and stuff from hours.
Also, my friend's cat escaped up in New Hampshire while they were on vacation. About two months or so later they found her clawing at the door. She travelled about a state to get home. So cat's have a sense of direction.
Good luck.

Good suggestion... DON"T LET YOUR CATS OUTSIDE! *hits you with a blunt object*
I will say this time and time again. Domestic cats are NOT ment to be outside. EVER! Don't let them outside. There is nothing outside for them. Take them for a walk if you must on a leash, yes they have them for cats. Its foolish to let them outside.
Sorry if I don't sound sympathetic, but I'm not gonne be towards you as its your fault. Cats are not equipt to survive outside unless they are feril. House cats CAN and have done well, but not in cities and such. He/she could get hit by a car, or killed by soemthing bigger, or perhaps starve.
Chances are your cat found a male or female its hanging out with for a few days like some cats I know of, but still. If it comes back, don't elt it outside ever again. Thats goes for anyone who owns a cat. I know this all too well. I used to work for an animal clinic and I've studied stuff involving such. Don't ever let a cat otuside unless it can be confined. Not for the sake of you not feeling the pain of lossing a beloved pet, but for the sake of the animals life.
Put up alot of posters, and as a good note, put out a can of tuna every night. Notify the animal control or whatever near you and check frequently incase your cat is found.
Unabhängiger Wolf - June 6, 2005 05:17 AM (GMT)
That's -feral-!
Oh, and you shouldn't have pet your cat outside. Why do you think pet shelters are overflowing with unwanted kittens? There's a chance your cat's hooked himself with a female and getting her pregnant or something : /
Do yourself a favour and NEVER LET HIM OUT AGAIN if he ever comes back. Also, NEVER DECLAW your cat. Without claws, there's no way he can defend himself from attackers.
In some places, it's actually legal for someone to shoot animals on their propertyif they intrude. just another reason why it's such a stupid idea to leave your cat outside where he can get run over by a car or shot, or contributing to the nation's pet overpopulation. Think of the kittens that get killed every year!!!
Capitila - June 6, 2005 06:49 AM (GMT)
That moral support is great, guys. Seriously.
Hopefully it turns up on its own, if not you could just check around animal shelters or something, as well as the whole poster thing.
Since we moved to the city we haven't let our cat outside, which is probably a smart idea.
Good luck with the search.

Well, perhaps I would be alittle more compassionate towards those who have losted a pet if that same person would have not been so careless with said pet to begin with. But meh, what do I know...
Anyways, do the tuna thing. You may attract more than your own cat, but its a good bet he may be coming by the house, but just not sticking around cause whatever he found he likes, holds his interest more. If you ahve food out for him he really likes, he wills tick around the house more, or be more apt to reappear since he sees he will get something good out of it.
JammerLea - June 6, 2005 01:08 PM (GMT)
"losted"?
You know, you guys could try to at least sound a little more compassionate while giving out this information. You sound like you're attacking him. Stop it. Not everyone knows everything about the best ways to take care of their pets, that doesn't automatically make them incompetant. There's always lots to learn about pets.
And what do you know about ZeroRaven and his cat? Maybe he doesn't live in a city. Maybe the cat is neutered. Quit making assumptions.
And Wolf, some places don't allow you to have cats unless they're declawed.
In anycase, ZeroRaven, I hope your cat does return in time, and hopefully in good health.
I'm not too sure about the food thing, as something like that could very well attract raccoons and other such scavengers. But it may help, I dunno.
Andrea Zephlyn - June 6, 2005 02:40 PM (GMT)
I sympathize, man. I have three indoor cats. We only let them out with parental supervision. If they run off, we chase them, put them inside and don't let them back out for a few days. (Grounding, one could say)
As far as kitty coming back goes, there's not much you can really do. Cats aren't like dogs, (as you probably noticed) and they know how to hide. I'll pray for you. LIke they've said, kitty might come back within a few days. If that's they case, I suggest parental supervision for their outside adventures from now on. Leaving a cat whose come to love the mystery of the outside inside makes for an unhappy kitty-cat.
Unabhängiger Wolf - June 6, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
WHAT BLOODY PLACE makes it mandatory for cats to be declawed? I hope no cat owner actually live in those places! Those poor cats!!!
Sorry, but animals come first! Animal overpopulation is a very serious problem. Think of all those animals put to sleep every year because people are stupid enough to not watch their pets or do not spay/neuter them.
There's such thing as cat collars and leashes, you know!
Animals come before people! You KNOW how I feel about animals!
P.S. I didn't come to this forum to be nice either.
JammerLea - June 6, 2005 06:49 PM (GMT)
Holy crap, Wolf. Settle down. >_<
My friends Molly and Justin have two cats, they've both been neutered and spayed and they're probably going to get them declawed because they are specifically indoor cats.
A lot of apartment buildings and such like for cats to be declawed.
IN ANYCASE this is a topic about ZeroRaven's cat, not about all the neglectful owners in the world.
And I know you're not here to be nice...

That totally conflicts Freelance's point on why its BAD to let an unfixed cat outside. <_<
You never see the FBI looking for lost animals, but a person goes missing, its the end of the world. I honestly think it should be the other way around. They put animals to sleep due to overpopulation, why not humans? Fix some people for once. :P :P :P
A good suggestion... If your cat comes back, take him/her straight to the vets for a check up. Cats can get upper respiratory infections easily while outside for days. Its very bad and it will kill him/her if not treated early. Its also extremely contagious.
ZeRoRaVeN - June 6, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
Ok I wrote a nice long post but then some firefox plugins I had messed it all up. <_<
To keep a story short I found him 2 hrs after I posted. ^_^ and well was going to tell you guys and all...in any case thanks alot everyone. My cat is "grounded" he won't be going out unless he at the very least has a collar.
My cat is "fixed" or well neutered. So I don't worry too much. Though it might have been nice to have kittens.....damn...
Anyway what happened up there?
Thanks for your help everyone.

That is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever seen you post, Lycan.
Glad you found your cat Zero, a missing pet can cause quite a bit of worry.

It wasn't ment as a serious comment, but I guess if you asumed I ment it seriously, then I suppose you made the stupidest asumption I've ever seen from you. :P :P :P kidding.

was all pointless...but thanks for caring everyone!
There was this time on the Animal Planet that they had this show and on this show a dog was stuck in a sewer pipe (don't ask how) and they had to dig up the ground, the road and sidewalk because the pipe was small enough only for a dog. Then they found there were too high and had to DIG AGAIN. We're talking about over hundreds and thousands of dollars to find the dog. They even got one of those robot cams and put it though. They got the dog eventualy. But some people care. Then again it was the Animal Planet channel which is entirely about animals.

*Fg-Dark_Monk waists a roman candle.
The cat is back! Congrads, talking about cats one of mine actually moved to my neibors house. The naibhor adopt her from us and she never comes to visit, but when i see her she's always very cuddly and no longer bone skinny form being outside all the time.
ZeRoRaVeN - June 15, 2005 12:25 AM (GMT)
You mean your neighbor adopted your cat, and your cat moved on purpose?
Did your neighbor know? Wouldn't they like give it back to you?
ZeRoRaVeN - November 5, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
My cat was lost [again] for 5 days and we found him today! yay! We found him after a neighbor told us they saw him near a abandoned house. Turns out, he was stuck inside. It was a abandoned house that was a DUMP and unfit for living, it even had alot of police notices on the door...we kinda tresspassed, we had to go in the basement and get him out...alot of work...I tried to get my dad to call the police..he said it would take them 3 hrs to get there....yes I'm sure..espically when the police station is on the block next to us...
