Title: Free Image Hosts Any Good?

Unabhängiger Wolf - July 21, 2005 07:06 PM (GMT)
Can't believe I'm actually making a thread, but I've been thinking of cancelling my Picturetrail account. I like the service/features, but seeing as how I really only use it for avatars and sigs, there's not much reason to pay $$$ for hosting several images.

I've checked around for free hosting sites that lets you upload images for message boards, etc, but all of them have a bandwidth limit of 1500 or less per month. Do you guys ever have any problems with any of these places? I don't want my avatar/sigs to go POOF in the middle of the month. That's the only thing that's preventing me from checking these out.

My free webhost doesn't support off-site linking (it used to), so that's out of the question.

Photobucket is perfectly fine....if you run out of space/bandwidth....make another one. XD

is that your answer to everything? "Make another account?" The terms state that you can have only one account. The l;ast thing I want to do is get my account taken from me.

Photobucket is good, but I use Walagata. Unfortunately, Walagata has only a limited amount of free accounts. But it has excellent bandwidth.

I checked Walagata and the site was cruddy. What's the bandwidth for that?

Photobucket, and if you have AIM, netscape gives you free webspace too.

What makes Photobucket better than every other image host, eh?

'Cause everyone's using it. No seriously, its quite good. Besides what's YOUR alternative

provides image hosting for Ebay, live journals, blogs, message boards, and online photo albums. Photobucket is reliable, fast and very simple to use.

Currently, Free accounts get 25MB of space and 1500MB of bandwidth per month. Premium accounts have bandwidth restrictions lifted and have up to 1GB of disk space.

I liked their old interface for some strange reason...

If you must be anti-photobucket, check out http://www.imageshack.us/ it doesn't require a account which can be good/bad, you get benefits, but then you have trade-offs...meh...

But http://www.filehost.ws/ has 5 image hosts all put together along with the accepted images, image size, and lets you upload to those sites without leaving the filehost.ws page, the uploaded button is right there. But that's from what I see...I just googled it up....I was actualy looking for another host I knew but googled it wrong...

Drk-X - July 21, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
Unless you have a really bad case of hotlinking leechers like I do on my hands, I couldn't possibly see any actual need of anything more than 1500 MB of bandwidth...

....Look at myself, I use tons of bandwidth every month on all sorts of things and I don't even use up that much...

Unabhängiger Wolf - July 22, 2005 12:05 AM (GMT)
There's lots of alternatives, that's why I am asking.

I am not anti-photobucket. I just asked why it's just better than everything else out there.

ZeRoRaVeN - July 22, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
I was joking. This might be one of those don't ask questions. Well in any case so far I haven't seen any photo hosting service that's efficient as photobucket, some of the others mentioned don't have accounts (which allows me to mange my photos) and or are feature lacking. Show me a better alternative to photobucket and I'll jump ship.

Unabhängiger Wolf - July 22, 2005 12:32 AM (GMT)
Hmm, you are right. I've checked out other hosts and they don't albums, etc, that PB has. Picturetrails had albums and stuff too, which I liked.

I guess I'll stick with PB then. The only forum I go to with loads of traffic has a feature that lets me upload avatars and sigs to their server, so I guess bandwidth isn't much of an issue.

Photobucket is evil when you upload long gifs.
