Title: DVD's to Screen Shots
Description: Sorry, if it's been asked

ShadowDragon062 - August 5, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know how to take a DVD and get screen shots off of it? I mean after I heard about Duowolf's computer frying and everything, and how all the data was lost, I just gathered up all of my Zoid DVD's, wanted to get the screen shots, email them to her so the site can come back. Anyone know how? Thanks. :D

If your computer has a program like Power DVD that can take screen captures, you're set. Try poking around on any programs that came with it...you might be lucky.

Otherwise, it's not fun. I can't get anything to work on this compy, be it screenshots or captures with PSP. (And yes, I have acceleration off in Media Player.) I'm going to resort to squishing all the DVDs into avis when I feel masochistic and/or bored enough and screenshotting those instead, I think, because then I can use them for music videos too...

1. Open up Photoshop (I heard pain works to but I haven't tried).
2. Open up the DVD in Windows Media Player (whatever number).
3. Open up the DVD in Windows Media Player Classic while keeping the first open.
4. Find the screen you want in Classic, then press the Print Screen key on your keyboard.
5. Go into Photoshop and go to File > New from clipboard. If you're using paint, try that. If it doesn't show up, go to Edit > Paste.

I think there's also some hotkey that allows you to just do it in WMP. But I can't remember what it was. I learned it from DrkX though.

Geez you guys use the must difficult of techniques to get screenshots, I mean cropping each one after it's taken? That's lots of work.

I have my own way which involves using a screen taker (not screenshotter) program that's like printscr with loads of functionality piled on (video, ftp uploader) we had a similiar thing with this going on in another topic, but anyway a much easier way is to simply open Windows Movie maker and use the take screenshot button when playing the video, sure it prompts you to save the file every time, buts its much easier than having to crop the image each time. No way I would crop each file, how else would I have a few hundred zoids genesis screenshots in under 2 hrs?

Thank you everybody for the great help so far. I have only tried the last one, since I was late into reading this, but I am not sure how to start the DVD to start taking screen shots. Anyone know how? Thanks again, and good day.

ZeRoRaVeN - August 7, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
No problem, it's lots of work though, and you have to rip the videos off the DVD first before you can really do anything, although it is possible to take screenshots without ripping it, you'll find it much easier to get them off the DVD. Good luck.

ShadowDragon062 - August 7, 2005 12:35 AM (GMT)
Thanks so far everyone. I've tried everything, and I can't do it (maybe because I'm too stupid with computers some times, or my knowledge is limited), but the third one works most well, so I've decided to continue with that one. I just need to know one last thing. How do you rip the stuff off the DVD? Thank you.

ZeRoRaVeN - August 7, 2005 01:05 AM (GMT)
So far I haven't really done it [much] but I know that you need software to do it. One example is Super DVD ripper, and a few others.

Since you probably won't want to pay, here are some from a search from download.com
http://www.download.com/sort/3120-20_4-0-1...vd+ripper&ca=20

There's also the big name companies who's programs can rip DVDs, like nero, and Roxio's Capture.

EDIT: 'cause lycan doesn't want me to post those links...

Zero, delete those links immediately. Its illegal to rip DVDs, and this is a forum on InvisionFree, of which has rules against such. This forum could be deleted if that was noted. Email him the links.

Don't ever risk this forum like that by breaking the rules of Invision AND the forum itself.

Sorry Zero Raven. And Sorry everyone else if I caused a problem. I just wanted the site Z.E. to comeback, and after Phelan gave me a link on AIM for Duowolf's problem I wanted to help somehow.

Drk-X - August 7, 2005 06:38 AM (GMT)
...doesn't WinDVD already have a capture feature???

BTW, don't worry about it so much. I have access to all of DuoWolf's Fuzors screencaps as well as a large amount of Classic and Zero screencaps and she can ask for my Genesis screencaps anytime. A long while back, she gave a good amount of screencaps to primehunter of zoid dome. I got back into contact with him recently and he still has them. Thanks for being concerned though.

ShadowDragon062 - August 7, 2005 03:55 PM (GMT)
So is she going to get the original Z.E. to comeback? Is it finally going to go from that "college thing" to like the actual site again?

Drk-X - August 7, 2005 04:46 PM (GMT)
ZE was more than just screencaps. I have thousands of screencaps for Genesis, Fuzors, and quite a bit for Classic and Zero but it's still not ZE. There were also bios, ripped sprites from the first two Zoids Saga games, and so much more...

ShadowDragon062 - August 22, 2005 12:05 AM (GMT)
I just wish the site would come-back, but anyway do you have the link to the primehunter of zoid dome? I want to see that. By the way I really do want to know how to get images off a DVD because on Volume 9 G-File, they have some sweet images of the Geno Breaker that I want to use as my desk top. I tried everything and nothing worked... so any ideas? Thank you everybody who's helped so far.

Ooh, Tilly, how do you squish DVDs into avi's? 'Cause I wanna try making AMVs and screenshots, too, someday...if I'm ever smart enough to figure out how.

Meh links deleted,I was away for some time I think, however they are not illegall, I think, because the court ruling affected only the product of 321 studios...

This is like that bittorrent time...

Isn't just like ripping just outta a DVD?

Some people say that pressing PRT SCRN will copy and past the scene you are on into photo bucket, but when i run the movie again, the iamge is gone... and when I close Window's Media Player the image becomes a black blob. Did I do something wrong?

Note: PRT SCRN is right by F12

ZeRoRaVeN - September 5, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
Wasn't this question answered somewhere? Just turn the performance in WMP to none...

ShadowDragon062 - September 24, 2005 12:33 AM (GMT)
Question. I'm so dumb with updating my computer, but I'm good with it at other places... coughxangacough. How do you turn the performance in Window's Media Player to none?

ZeRoRaVeN - September 24, 2005 02:12 AM (GMT)
First select the options in tools/right clicky

Then performance

tada! I played around in photoshop for fun a bit..

EDIT: *turns them into links*

ShadowDragon062 - September 24, 2005 02:20 AM (GMT)
It still didn't work.

I used Window's Media Player and I went to options and put it down to performance none. Do I have to post it in a certain place?

K-62 - September 24, 2005 02:31 AM (GMT)
Do all that and then go into paint and press ctrl+v

Edit: it doesnt have to be at none it also works at half way point.

ShadowDragon062 - September 24, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
Ok, does the movie have to be uploaded into the computer to work? It worked when I listened to music that was downloaded into my computer, but it doesn't when I play a DVD. So do I have to upload the movie in first?

Tilly - September 24, 2005 02:46 AM (GMT)
DVDs won't screenshot normally that way. You need to either ripsquishaviify them or use a DVD playing program with a capture function...

ShadowDragon062 - September 24, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
Thought so... Thank you Tilly.
