Description: by Christopher Paolini
ZeRoRaVeN - August 23, 2005 07:35 PM (GMT)
yay! It came out today, 8/23/05, I was listening on the radio and it so happpened it mentioned something about the eldest, and telling people to buy it, but they didn't say specificily about a new book coming out, I missed the beginning. But I presumed so, so I went to barnes & noble and bought it. I have it right next to me, and I read the beginning and it's pretty good, but it's got a much gloomier tone...
Since Eldest isn't as widely read as the other series, *cough*hp*cough* I guess this won't be a discussion thread with spoilers.
It's a good series, I suggest you read the first book though.

Dude, the Inheritance Trilogy is awesome...so's Paolini, I mean - NYT Bestseller at 19?
Have read Eragon, loved it, want to read Eldest...is it good? (Needs to actually BUY Eragon as well as Eldest - borrowed it to read)
ZeRoRaVeN - August 23, 2005 08:37 PM (GMT)
Ah well so far I'm still at the beginning, but you won't imagine the difference between the first and second book, Eragon is faced with dilemmas, like to which side his loyaltly goes to, and as you recall he has to go to the elves for training...its really good...*raves* and if you read the little preview of the eldest in the first book you'll know ahead who died, which I disaprove of, they showed too much in the preview...
ShadowDragon062 - August 23, 2005 09:33 PM (GMT)
I don't like the fact that... you know who died...I'm not saying the name just in case someone is reading it currently. It was so sad though... I can't wait to get this book, as we speak I'm begging my mom for it...
D'OH! She said no....
All well, anyway I love the first book so far. I may have to read the first one again, I forgot quite a bit of it already...
MrGuy - August 23, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
I don't even remember what the first book was about. How long's it been? Two, three years? I think they killed my favorite character last book though... can't remember. I think he was either the really evil one or the sort of evil one (if there even was one) x_x;
SeraPhoenix - August 24, 2005 01:18 AM (GMT)
I got the book today but I don't know when I'll be able to start reading it. Me and my little brother are fighting over who gets to read it first. :P Plus we both still have to finish books for school too...but I should be able to finish that tonight or tomorrow.
Silverliger - August 24, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
I just got the book today. It's twice the size of the first one! Though, I read the first one a week, so this one, um, may take a week and a few days. :)
ZeRoRaVeN - August 24, 2005 05:30 PM (GMT)
I finished it hrs ago! It was great! The plot amazed me...I can't believe the betrayals..and from who it came from! Two of the predictions Angela makes come true in this book..
*points down* SPOILER ALERT! THE BOOK SUMMARIZED
Ok first Roran, eragon's brother not blood related, leads the village to fight the evil guy with the dragon (can't spell his name) soliders who want to talk to roran who refuses and attacks the soilders leading into an all out war against his village against them. And so they then are forced to leave the village, sneaking out before reinforcements come though a hard trek, steal ships to get to surdan which concinedly the varden are moving their base there. Also the twins and murtagh get captured by the enemey and afjian is killed (wrong spelling again!) but the twins betray the varden and murtagh is forced to swear allegience to the enemey (don't ask me to spell his name) and eragon goes though trainging at the elves land and gets gifted by the dragons with elf-like abilities and can fight just as well. And then the do a big nice long battle with eragon and the soilders of surdan and varden fighting and then as they are losing the dwarves come and help them but later the dward king is killed. Then a red dragon with a rider comes, eragon is tired and fights him, then they get on the ground to sword fight, since eragon is wore out he could easily beat him but is tired. Then it turns out its murtagh! he has a dragon named thorn and then he manages to immobilize eragon and saphira and tells them he has orders to capture them alive and since the two eggs the enemey have are male saphira is needed alive to mate and make a new generation. Also it turns out eragon is in love with araya and they meet in the elves land another dragon and rider, they both teach them the ways and in the battle with eragon and murtagh murtagh releases him from immobilization and doesn't kill him though he is close too and leaves. Then eragon talks with roran who brought himself and the village to surdan for their safety and because roran's wife to be has been captured by the enemey...the end..ok my summary is crappy and all but the book rocks.
ShadowDragon062 - August 25, 2005 09:51 PM (GMT)
Ok, I just read that whole summary... and it's a good thing I only skimmed it, I only read the key points that surprised me. GOOD BOOK from the sounds of it.
Blade Liger Mirage - August 26, 2005 12:22 PM (GMT)
I got it in the 23rd. Still, I haven't started it since I have 3 other books to read first <_<. But it took me like....2 weeks to read the first, but I won't get to Eldest for a few more weeks.
ZeRoRaVeN - August 26, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
Aww...eldest was great...but there's one huge difference I notice between the first and second book:the characters all suddenly say aye all the time...I don't get it! Suddenly everyone is responding with aye..its werid...I finshed the book in 2 days.. I could;ve finished it in one..but technically I started at night on the 23rd and finished in the morning on the 24th (like 9:00 AM) I also finish the harry potter books 4,5,6 in one day...I like finishing them fast then rereading them later...
Murasame Liger - August 27, 2005 12:40 AM (GMT)
I just got it yesterday, But I havent started it yet. But Will when I get the time!
EDIT: I have read chapter one! and thats it....
ShadowDragon062 - September 11, 2005 02:59 AM (GMT)
Just finished the book. A few things that should happen in the next book really have to be this.
Warning: Spoiler's Below!
We Begin with Eragon and than everyone else.
1) Eragon gets trained by elves.
2) Eragon gets a new look after his training into an elf-like human.
3) Eragon falls in love with Arya.
4) Eragon fights a huge battle
5) During the battle, he meets Murtagh who was supposedly dead from the final fight in book one.
6) Murtagh gets a new Dragon named Thorn
7) Truth is revealed... that Murtagh is Eragon's brother, and that Morzon was Eragon's father.
8) Murtagh steals Eragon's Sword "Misery"
9) Eragon's is wiser, and needs a new sword *coughnextbookhewillgetablueonecough*
Ok, now on with his cousin Roran
1) Roran's in love with Katrina
2) Roran proposes without asking permission from Katrina's father
3) Ra'zac come after Roran, because he knows about Eragon
4) Roran challenges them... and they try to escape fighting
5) Ra'zac kidnap Katrina
6) Roran attempts to find her, by trying to find Eragon
7) Meet up with Eragon at the end and they realized he is a Rider
8) Roran has some family issues to discuss
9) Eragon scry's for Roran revealing that Katrina is ok, and that the brothers will go together to retrieve Roran's wife.
Loved the book, nice detailing. My only complaint was that Chris didn't tell if Eragon was getting a new sword or not, but finding that out abuot Eragon... boy that must really suck.

Hmm use white rather than yellow, that way members have to highlight it, and members coming by the thread don't stumble over to it accidently.
Well about the sword thing, I have a feeling that elf, the one who made all the swords for all the riders may come into play even though she swore never again, but then don't forget what the werecat said, if you need a sword go to...uh the menoa tree was it?
Great book...I think it is on par if not better than harry potter, the HP books are overdone! Too long, same thing..geez...overated...love eragon though..and the thing about he finds out about his family...geez and it was predicted..wow I never expected that! That was a great twist to the story...

When I looked at the color's white was not listed... so I couldn't really let people just read it could I? Yes, Eldest was a great book.
Murtagh's cool, but one heck of an evil brother. So is Thorn. What's your favorite Dragon so far?
Dranxis - October 1, 2005 03:23 AM (GMT)
Even though I (for my own personal reasons) hate Paolini's guts, mostly over jealousy, I have to admit that Eldest was one helluva book. Like the first one, the climax was staggering, and he threw in some twists in there that I didn't see coming. Even though he is not the most original writer (but then again, who is?) Paolini has come a LONG way from that very first chapter. Excellent storytelling.
Oh, and my favorite dragon has to be Glaedr. His stuffy attitude towards Saphira had me in giggle fits.

Saphira hands down..not because she's like the main dragon but because she has the most interesting personality...

Why do you hate Paolini's guts? He's a great author! I'm very much impressed with the storyline with the second book...for me this is my harry potter replacement...I'm seriously TIRED of the overdone, exgaggerated, now plotless, boring story! It's too long! Eragon however is too short..but that may be good otherwise it'll turn into harry potter.
ZeRoRaVeN has joined the cult of anti-harry potter ranks.
I did like the series...in the beginning..but now..there is nothing left! We know harry potter is going to kill Voldomort..stop dragging out the frickin' story dammit! *rants*
Eragon is way better than Harry Potter in my opinion..
Dranxis - October 1, 2005 03:57 AM (GMT)
Well, I don't hate him as a writer or a person, I love the Inheritance Trilogy. I was just really pissed off when he was published, like, two weeks after I began my own novel. It's been a while since I finished it, but he has stolen my title as teenage author.
Yeah, I know, it's an immature jealousy, but I still think of him as a rival. +__+
