Title: An animation program...

Fury OD - October 29, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)
 Hey, I'm back. but any way, I need help finding a animation program from the internet .I'm trying to make my characters move and stuff...So any info and help would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance...

You mean 3-D animation or just gifs?

For the latter, I use GIMP, as I do for pretty much all my graphics work. Its animation takes getting used to (put stuff on layers in order, save as gif, for starters), but it's good enough, I think.

Paid program-wise, all I've used is Animation Shop, since it came with my old copy of PSP 6.

so, can I download Animation shop from the internet?, or would I have to buy the program?

Tilly - October 29, 2005 03:05 PM (GMT)
I think they might have a trial up...but you'd have to pay for it after a bit.

I've heard of other free gif animators, but I've never tried them. If you don't dig GIMP, someone might know of one...

Do you need the entire image editig program or just the .gif compiler?

If you just need the compiler, use Alchemy Mindworks

Adobe Imageready is a great program too..but its so advanced it's for the pros...and it's very expensive..but it's one of the better ones..well it is made by adobe...*has program but rarely uses it*

Free, dangit!

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

There's a version out there made to look/act more like Photoshop...I'm not sure where it is, but you might be able to find it with Google. I like GIMP's interface better than Photoshop, though, especially the ability to break off bits of menus you use often and keep them on the screen.

oooo you mean GIMPshop, the photoshop rip-off....it was in PC magazine...hmm let me see...*looks for the page in the magazine* ahhh

Tilly you are too much of a GIMP fanatic...how many times have I seen you try to spread the GIMP-ness to others?

GIMP is awesome, and for animation they have GAP (GIMP Animation Program), both can be downloaded from gimp.org. Little tricky at first, but good once you get the hang of it.

Well, too often I see people wanting a decent graphics program and thinking they're stuck shelling out for Photoshop or the like when all they want to do is make sigs or animated gifs or something. So as long as such things keep happening, I will keep poking people with GIMP :p.

When I got PaintShop Pro 7, it came with Animation shop 3... When I upgraded to PSP8, it came with Animation Shop 3. Thats a pretty good program, can make AVIs, MNGs, GIFs, and various other moving image formats. (It can also read in portions of a video file directly)

I love Paintshop Pro. I've used Adobe and I don't see why its so great.. PSP8 was like the average joe version of Adobe PS. Its WAY cheaper too. The only trouble is that the creator, Jasc, was bought out by Corell I think. So theres no more updates for PSP7&8, but they did release PSP9. Maybe one day I'll get the newest version, but for now, PSP serves me well.

One word: Tablet.

It's the only reason I bother with my copy of Photoshop Elements...or rather, the pressure sensitivity and brushes that go with it. Without one, I only used PSP for lines because otherwise its brushes and the like were argh.

Well, and screenshots. Yay capture function.

*raises hand* I want a tablet...*recalls the tablety thread*

The problem you see...is that you guys are "shelling out" money for it...see I didn't...so I don't see the problem..that's why. :P

Flash is THE best animation program, obviouslly...takes time to learn...but once you got the basics down..keyframes. movie clips..etc..you're set...then you can learn actionscript. :)

The problem with flash is that it's big and isn't for stuff like avatars or AIM icons..though you can output them as .gifs...rather than use a gif animator I wonder if it would come out better in flash...and then output it was a gif..

Bragging about bootlegging software doesn't make you look cool :p.

The only graphics program I've ever bought directly was PSP 6, waaay back when. The others I use are either free (GIMP, ArtRage) or came with other stuff I needed (Painter Classic and Photoshop Elements with the tablet).

Pity the new version of Painter Classic (Bonnie had 1, I have 2) is crap other than the watercolors (which would be incredibly fun if not for the FIVE UNDO LIMIT RAGH). Take away all my cool tools, will you...

Are you accusing me of using bootlegged software? Not all of my software is bootlegged...oh wait..hmm..windows..roxio...office...photoshop...macromedia studio...cute ftp...spysweeper...give me a moment here...winrar...limewire pro...microsoft plus!...pinnacle studio 9...oh yes that's right! My Norton Internet Security, as ancient as it is [2003] is in fact, legal. *nods*

Too bad the 3D programs a ridiouslly expensive, well except for the lego thing, and one or two open-sourceys....Maya is a few thousand...no I don't have it..can't do much 3D myself..
