Title: Zoids Evolution Invigoration Announcement
JammerLea - November 16, 2005 06:15 AM (GMT)
GOAL: The ultimate goal for this project is to revive the entire Zoids community, not just Zoids Evolution. The goal is to keep Zoids Evolution alive and build it up until it is at it's very best, and can stay there.
Members of Zoids Evolution Forums (ZEF), today planning has started to revive ZEF anew. As dedicated members our goal is to keep ZEF alive, improve its current community, content, and integrate it with future plans for Zoids Evolution as a whole. This means we will be making some changes to the current forums in order to better maintain it. These first changes will be small and will involve some cleaning and pruning of the forums. I promise you there will be no changes that shall affect your enjoyment of the forums, you may not even notice these first changes at all.
Within the next few days, our Zoids Invigoration Tactics Team (ZITT) will be planning an outline for our goal, and looking for a way to get the community in general involved in the development of these plans. I cannot say what they are at the moment, since this is the only start of our venture, but we will continue to make regular announcements in this or another thread. For now this is just a 'heads up.'
If you have any questions as this develops, please feel free to ask. I encourage any feedback as we progress with this project. If you have any complaints, please send them to me through Private Messaging, and I will discuss them personally with you.
For now, we sign off, with our current ZITT members,
Jammer Lea (Head-Admin), Konig Wolf(Admin), Capitila (Super Mod), DueroTycoon (Technical Director), ZeroRaven (Member Representative)
As General Eisenhower once said, today, is the day of days.
DueroTycoon - November 16, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
Whoop whoop cheer cheer!
Jammi used my Eisenhower quote! Whooohoooohoo go ZE. We gonna pwn. And for the occasion, I have a new signature,
ZeRoRaVeN - November 16, 2005 01:39 PM (GMT)
And I thought you were kidding when you said member representative...also btw about the chat thing, I trust one of us will start the chat right?
We should also keep notes on the wiki site to show what we've done in each chat, not everything, but a general idea.
Fury OD - November 16, 2005 08:34 PM (GMT)
 What did I say when I first joined this forum....???
I said that this forum will never die. Didn't quit know about ZE at the time but I always had great hopes for this forum and Zoids. Lets give it up for ZE!!^_^
Steve - November 17, 2005 04:14 AM (GMT)
Indeed. ZE is indestructable! We've survived through multiple board implosions and come out more or less unscathed. ZE shall keep on tickin' so long as there's dedicated members posting here.
We may not be the biggest Zoids forum around, or have lots of big name fans and a million members all the latest news and bells and whistles and all that, but we're the site that just refuses to die. We've been around for three years now and we're not about to keel over yet!
'Sides, I'm gonna keep on posting in here until the boards are permanantly shut down and/or deleted, so as long as I exist, ZE will exist. :P
Scottfab - November 17, 2005 08:20 AM (GMT)
If you need help with something, I'd be glad to help. Even if I'm one of the newest people. And Fuz hates me for being crappy at Zoids Saga. :P

OK, question. I know DT has his heart set on vB for whatever reason, but you know, there are other forums systems out there versus vB or IPB for that matter.
One is Yabb (http://www.yabbforum.com/) Which is a free CGI based forum. I had it installed on my computer for a very short time while I attempted to learn mySQL...
Another free one that I tried was called phpBB. (http://www.phpbb.com/) What I like about this one is that its EXTREMLY similar to Invision. But its fuh-ree!!
Why do we have to pay money, that just sucks.
And I think if you're going to ask the people to choose you do it in an unbiased way! (The page on the Wiki that has this info is very biased toward vB :P)
Both of these are open source, which means they are always being updated and changing.
König Warrior - November 17, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
I've seen phpBB before, it is very much like Invision, and it seems to work.
JammerLea - November 17, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
Well, there are currently no real plans for moving.
I'd rather not move at all if possible. Maybe actually come up with a decent skin for the board, but moving will probably be the LAST thing we do.

I agree, I was only noting I'd seen phpBB board before.

The reason is, that he HATES IPB..he loved it until (yes I've memorized why because I argued with him to go IPB) IPS shut down ibplanet...and really likes vbulletin..
Yea I know...it was actually worse..I made him change..that's it DT I'm going to change the page on wiki to be neutral..
But yea moving is last resort now...
DueroTycoon - November 17, 2005 11:18 PM (GMT)
I did tell you that if you found anything wrong with vBulletin to post it. I don't understand why everybody here is so biased to vB. It's the original multiforum system.
Yes, I loved IPB until they made it pay only and killed the community. If they hadn't done that, I would have no problem with them.
Tilly - November 18, 2005 01:19 AM (GMT)
I've used phpBB before, though I've never done any proper customizing. One project I may be working on requires it, though, so if I get into that I wouldn't mind poking around there.
But yes, I don't want to move either.
And if we get another skin...BIG FONT. HIGH CONTRAST. Not some blinding tiny thing! This font here is about as small as I can read comfortably. I can read small text just fine, mind, I mean what I'm able to stare at for ages.

I'm not. From my exprience with both Invision, vBulletin, and many other companies I believe vBulletin is a superior board system. I can understand why people wouldn't want to move though (having to repost all important topics, post counts, etc.). I personally wouldn't mind moving in the least, but whatever.

You sure it's not just your Text Size? If it might be that, go to "View" > "Text Size" > "Meduim" (as that is the default). If that's not the case, then I guess it's something else because I'm using 1024 x 768 and it's just fine for me at "Medium."
I definetly vote to stay even though I am having very little to do with the forums (ZeroRaven pointed this out, and I was naturally interested as my interest for the forums spurred from ZE, and anything to restore ZE would be something of interest for me).
As for skins...yep...not that I have any major problems with this, but it could definetly use a facelift.
I think everyone should just drop the whole thing of moving the forums, no matter whether it's a better forum system or not. It's futile...a majority of the people will vote against moving. Why waste time when you already know what the result will be?
At any rate, it's good that there are some revival efforts going on. I wish I could be a bigger part of them, but ah well...I'll pop in now during school when I have access to the 'net for half an hour which I usually spend playing games (gotta love it...1.5 hours of a computer class) just to see what's going on with this.
Good luck, and of course, if you need some help here and there, well...hey, I never said I'd be gone for good from ZE ;)
Until then,
The one and only.
PS: Ironic, eh? "one and only" ... I'm sure there are like 50000000 other Blades in the online community.
DueroTycoon - November 18, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
Alright, let me just do a little math here.
Right now, it would cost $608 plus or minus a few dollars per year in AdFree in order to keep the forums 100% adfree. Think, we're going to try to make the forums much more active. That would skyrocket.
Now look at the price for vBulletin ($160) and IPB ($180 or something). I really would be willing to pay the entire price for a lifetime subscription to it if we had promise in the community. Eh... the price balances much more nicely for a nice forum. Just a little math for your mind.
sammich - November 18, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
Awesome reasonable way to bring a community back to life~!
Hey... why do people keep bringing up moving the forum? I didn't see Jammer mention anything about that. o_O;

It's way too expensive, the IPB/vbulletin license is nothing compared to that..and since you're providing the hosting costs are minimal..but we don't want to move...at least not most of us..
@sammich because it was brought up but never fully addressed, ZEF's moved many times and people want to settle down...
Zelos - November 18, 2005 02:53 AM (GMT)
If ZIT will indeed have a government based around the community voting, why not have a vote on what to do with the boards? It could just be a closed topic on here, but plaster links to it all over the place and mass PM a link to it to every single member here :D
ZeRoRaVeN - November 18, 2005 03:01 AM (GMT)
Nah, Bulk Mail it, mass PM doesn't work as well...yes that is in consideration, but after we do some more board changes....of course you would know if you had AIM...*nudge*
Zelos - November 18, 2005 03:25 AM (GMT)
I'll consider it :P Don't believe anything Duero tells you about me, by the way. He called me yesterday and the conversation went something like this:
Duero: Get AIM now.
Me: Nah, I don't want to.
Duero: But everybody wants you in the chat!
Me: Meh, I don't feel like working on anything right now.
Duero: Okay, I'll tell them that: "Zelos said to take away his Admin powers..."
Me: Oh noes! Teh horror!
I saw him before school again this morning, and he once again told me to get AIM, however I politely denied his request yet again :P
DueroTycoon - November 18, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
Nope. It went:
Me: Get AIM now.
Zelos: Nah.
Me: Yes.
Zelos: I'd rather not.
Me: But we want you to help rebuild ZE.
Zelos: I don't care. It's Jammer's forums not mine.
Me: Fine. "Zelos said to take away his admin powers" (Me typing)
Zelos: Ok.
Yep. Before school this morning he said he just didn't care. I have to pound him tomorrow.
Zelos - November 18, 2005 03:47 AM (GMT)
I IMPLIED that this is only temporary :P Learn to read between the lines :P
Now, give me five good reasons I should get AIM and join the chat(s)
Illidan - November 28, 2005 11:21 AM (GMT)
Here's another vote for YABB, in the random-offchance anyone is considering it. I've been a member of a YABB forum for quite some time and found it quite optimal.
http://www.mangband.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi for an example.
ZeRoRaVeN - November 28, 2005 10:28 PM (GMT)
We are NOT moving, they decided that we're moving because we would lose so many posts and we want to stay in here where it's for the most part stable and secure.
