First up, what do you see in this b&w picture?

Also:

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... the McCollough Effect:
http://research.lumeta.com/ches/me/
possibly the best and creepiest illusion ever.

In short, looking at alternating vertical black and <color> bars and horizontal black and <complement of first color> bars can affect the way you perceive black and white bars for a really long time.

WARNING: This isn't just an afterimage, that's why I didn't include pictures here. It somehow affects your visual systems/memory at a higher level. If you're an artist or something you might want to avoid this. For a web demo like this the results should only last a few hours or a day, but in the original study, some of the participants were affected for weeks or months afterwards.

Hehehe. This one should have you going 'huh' for a while.

What do you se at first? Take a closer look and you will see much more.

Dude, the two you img linked to are freaking obvious. Not much of optical illusions if someone can recognize them are first glance. And if you've taken a TINY bit of High School physics then the McCullough Effect should be common knowledge...

Good job a-hole *thumbs up*

Do you know how to have fun and not be a *** about something you have seen? You could have just said that you have seen these and move along, not be a ***** about it.

I showed my and 3 other Physics teachers (all of 10 years or more) and they said they had never heard of it and though it was cool.

You must suck to go to movies or magic shows with. I'm guessing you would be the one booed out of the hall for spoiling the end or trick for everyone else.

Do you speak for the entirety of the board? Or are you just part of the Borg?

I'm sure there will be ppl here that have not seen these and will get a kick out of them. And not everyone will find them as quick as you did. I saw the figure in the b/w photo quick because I grew up with them around. I showed it to my friend after school today and she did not see it for over 5 mins.
