Title: Death
Description: Be warned. Not for the light-hearted.

Ian Gillies, a friend of mine, was murdered on Monday night. He was locking up his restaurant when he was accosted by an employee who stabbed him with a steak knife after robbing him of R5000 and a cellphone.

The employee was fired a while back for cellphone theft, but Ian re-employed him because the employees father had been a loyal employee for over 20 years. Aparently the employee hid in the restaurant when his shift was over, and waited for Ian to be alone.

I don't really know why I'm posting this story to a Landrover Forum, but I guess I'm a bit shell shocked by the news, and after the initial anger and hatred has started to subside, the sadness is welling up. This thread seemed an appropriate place to post this. If it's inapropriate, a mod is welcome to remove it.

It is so sad that a charismatic, wonderful persons life is worth less than 450 pounds, and that a loving father, a great restauranteur, music lover, entertainer, and friend is gone.

His funeral is at 3pm today, and there will be a wake at the restaurant this evening where we will no doubt drink far too much and celebrate the time he was able to be with us.

This was a dear person in everyone's life who knew him. The quote above was taken from the Land Rover site which was where Steel told me of this post.

Ian, was to anyone and everyone who knew him someone you could relay on and someone who was fun loving and energetic. Basically put, he was someone you could always relay on to be there when you needed him to be.

The time of his death has really sent shockwaves threw our entire community and made a serious impact on a person i know. He had since the death of Ian Gillies gone into a shell which he no longer communicates with anyone, not even his mother who has since became quite, but still interactive.

So i am not asking you, to say anything, but just have the best wishes in your heart for Ian Gillies family who has had to go threw one of the most terible situations and again all i ask is that for a moment, you just think of them and pray for them..

Thank you.

I feel your pain. On Wednesday 21st of September on a Wednesday night, my friend committed suicide. She always smiled and secured others but yet, she kept her emotions and worries to herself. No one was expecting it. Its quite a tradgey in a school and we were shocked to hear this after our exams were over.

She was such a lovely person. Still missing her. :(

*prays for Gillie's friends, family, and relatives*

uhh forte lives in Austrialia, you make it sound like 2 murders is all that happened, I doubt that Austrialia had just two deaths.

Well I pray for Ian Gillies family & friends, sorry to hear about your friend forte....

I too will pray for them as well. My 5 month old baby cousin died this past week. She died peacefully in her sleep so I thank God for that. I believe He knows best though we may not be able to understand it. Her wake was yesturday...

Reading comprehension. Yuri said that two people in his area were killed. He never said anything about the whole of Australia.

Sorry to hear about Ian Gillies. Condolences to his family for having to deal with it. Was he your friend? Or Steel's friend? Or a friend of some random person on the Land Rover site?

Forte, was that the girl you posted about in your LJ? It's disconcerting to know that such seemingly happy people would still commit suicide.

Yeah, thats right. I even have dog-tags (from my friends) with her name encrypted on it. =(

Yeah, when someone at my school died, they handed out these pressed dogtag-like pendant necklaces to all his friends.

My sympathy goes out to the Gillies family, and all here who have lost someone they know.
