Title: Calendar Question...

Rev Raptor - December 9, 2005 09:20 PM (GMT)
Okay, BLM made me start thinking about this. My settings are (of course) set for JST. Does the calendar take into account the time setting of the user when announcing birthdays?

If that's too confusing, let me put it into a situational view. My birthday is on December 15th, but to prevent friends of mine on the other side of the international dateline from getting confused, I tell them it's on THEIR 14th. You see, right now the calendar says it's December 10th, which is correct by my clock. But some others will see it as being December 9th. So when my birthday rolls around, I will see it as December 15th, while others will see it as December 14th. Will I see under the announcements that it's my birthday, but others will see it the next day, or will everyone see at the same time?

This is more a curiousity question, really. I'm a programmer ^_^ I like to know how things work.

Hehe, you have the same birthday as my Grandma.

Anyway.. Your birthday will show up on the 15. So when it's the 15th in Japan, you'll see that it's your birthday. When it's the 15th in America, Americans will see that it's your birthday.

So in other words..

I can't even remember what my settings are. Did I leave them on GMT?

...yes, yes, I did. I tend to do that anyway. It and Australia are the two time zones besides central and eastern I can remember, so I'm used to people being almost a day ahead of me...no real confusion there.

The calender in the forum here respects timelines, which is why I always find Momonga saying happy birthday to somebody before their name appears in the birthdays today list.

People would think other people had birthdays on different dates if the birthday was announced based on one timezone.
