One of the first things I noticed in GF were the names of the red and blue organoids. They made me smile because I'm geeky like that. I thought it might be funny if I expand upon it:
This is how one goes about the naming of organoids:
Step 1.
Open up either GMAX or 3D-Studio MAX or VIZ (GMAX is a free custom-content tool for many games)

Now open the texture/materials editor (arrow is pointing to it)
Good! you're almost done!
Step 2.
There are all sorts of weird technical terms here! Pick one and that's it!
You have named your organoid!
How creative!

As you can see, the creators of GF didn't have to look hard to find the names Specular and Ambient... in one of the primary parts of the texture editor.
If there were a another one, they would have named it Diffuse.
Then Alpha Channel, Bump Map, Gloss, Opacity...
Maybe this is only funny to people familiar with 3d modelling programs. I don't know.
