I was looking up stuff on Praying Mantises, and came across this video... ever wonder if a Praying Mantis could take a Mouse in a fight? Take a gander and see for yourself!

Turn down your computer's volume. The fight is more enjoyable without the idiot cameraman's commentary, IMO.

Yeah, Praying Mantises can be pretty vicious... here are some pics of one eating a Hummingbird!

Despite the ferocity of the mantises displayed here, they're actually rather calm, gentle insects. I've kept several of 'em as pets over the years... they like to have their backs stroked, and will turn their lil' heads and look at you with their big googly eyes... I miss my pet mantises.

Not really surprising, bugs rule the world! I heard that their reaction time is much better than ours. But the again, bugs are superior to a lot of things. :)

Ah well. The mouse didn't even put up much of a fight. Now, if it had been a shrew, now *that* would've been a fight! Shrews are smaller then mice, but they're nasty little predators with serrated teeth and a venomous bite... a shrew could probably give that Praying Mantis a run for its money...

Nah, the shrew wouldve won. The reason the mouse lost is because it has no predatory instinct.
