Title: Zoids Con
Description: could it happen?
HaTcH - February 9, 2006 11:02 PM (GMT)
Ok everyone, I'd like to announce the preliminary stages of Zoids Con that we the members of ZE would like to hold some time this (or the next) summer. I had a nice long chat with Jammer, so this isn't just spur of the moment, I'm serious. I know there was another member that wanted to set something up as well...
But before we can start figureing out anything, we need to start collecting information.
What we need to do:
a.) Find a place (somewhere in the eastern-central United States) that would be somewhat close to everyone. I want to guess somewhere in Illinois/Indiana, but we need to still figure out where everyone will be coming from. Based off that we can move the location more toward a median point. In an effort to save some money, it would be best to hold the get together in a state park with grills and a camping area, this would also give us bathrooms =] (or job johnnys).
b.) We need to determine the date of the expo. I want to say a Saturday/Sunday kind of gig, as that would be easiest to fenagle with work schedules and things. And for school perhaps it could be held in late July, early August. (give people a chance to make the extra bucks on their summer jobs... ;))
c.) We need to figure a ball park estimate of how many people will show up. I know some people will be able to drive, others may have to take a plane or something else, but one way or another everyone could be able to get there. If we held it near a city, airports would be closer and also hotels and stuff for those people who don't want to camp.
d.) We will need food money. This would include actual food items like burgers and hot dogs and soda, but also stuff like napkins, paper plates and charcoal/propane. It would be alot to ask 1 or 2 people to provide all the food, so a pool would be nice.
If we can determine these sort of things, there'd be no problem with having such an event. But this is ALOT of stuff, and we might not be able to get it done in a reasonable amount of time for a 2006 shindig, and instead have to wait for 2007.
This thread is completely open to DISCUSSION. Please try to CONTRIBUTE to it with your own thoughts/ideas and not just spam it to death. ;)
If everyone would like to please add yourself to the following page.

Ah, yes this would be a great idea..It'll be cool to see the members of ZE, and how there personalities are on the outside world..But unfortunately for me Im under age..Can't drive..And am needed on my block/ town for things..I can't come...It would be cool though..If you guys are still, wanting to do this a second time, like in a couple of years, I should be at age to do so..
Tilly - February 9, 2006 11:13 PM (GMT)
ZoidFans has pulled off a good number of them, big and small. But it's mostly adult members.
Chicago would be good. I can get there by bus easy enough, and buses are cheap :p.
(edit) ZoidFans also does a darthing bin thing. People bring or mail spare/trashed Zoids and Zoid bits, and anyone interested mashes stuff together and tries to make customs. Some rather nice ones have come out of it, too, after being refined post-bash.
If we can find a way to get an AVI-playing DVD player involved I could bring Japanese /Zero or dub Fuzors.
Steve - February 9, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
I'd love to go, but I don't think mommy would let me. xp But I can always hope.
ShadowDragon062 - February 9, 2006 11:41 PM (GMT)
My statement was said by Steve. To tell you all the truth, my parents and sister know nothing of me posting here on ZE. My sister however, mistook it as I'm writing a story thing like fanfiction... but enough about that...
The closest place I could actually get to would be St. Louis, or Chicago. Maybe California possibly. But, unless you held it in my home state, Kansas, then I will definently not be there.
Zelos - February 10, 2006 12:46 AM (GMT)
Bah. Chicago is overrated, I say we should do it in Plainfield :P It's only about *Checks Google Earth* 41 miles away from Chicago :D
While you're all here we can go over to DT's house and beat him up thank him for all he's done for us.
The_Princess - February 10, 2006 01:17 AM (GMT)
so not going. Traveling overseas for a con is beyond my meens.
aduckie - February 10, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
I vote for Chicago, IL.
I can provide housing. I live in Chicago, IL. xD
I can bring the food and some other things.
Summer would be nice. You know, maybe we could hold it in Loyola University Thomas U. Flanner Hall? My sister goes there, so we could get a discount. That hall is HUGE! There's also a beach close by, so we could go swimming and loads of restaurants (its campus!).

Hey, I plan to show up in Australia sometime when I can get the money and eat all your food.
Murasame Liger - February 10, 2006 03:07 AM (GMT)
Nothing comes to Washington darn it!
Matrixdragon - February 10, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
I'd also love to go but I'm only 14 and I don't know if my parents would want to take me to Chicago for a Zoids con. I live in Charlotte, so if it were held somewhere between Tennesse and Florida I *might* be able to make it.
It's a wonderful idea though. :)
Momonga - February 10, 2006 03:35 AM (GMT)
I'd love to go.. and if it's in my school holidays, I might just be able to pursuade my parents to let me ^____^ but no promises yet...
Zelos - February 10, 2006 03:53 AM (GMT)
I still think we should do it in Plainfield, Illinois at my house, or maybe Duero's (without even telling him first...) but maybe if we do do it somewhere else, there should be a poll made to see where the most people live around.
JammerLea - February 10, 2006 04:05 AM (GMT)
We should tally up who lives where. I'll edit the first post for that. Just list states... provinces for Canada, etc... and we'll take note. That shouldn't be too bad, right? In case people don't want to list their hometowns.
It might be hard to put something like this together by this summer, but we'll see.
HaTcH - February 10, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
Everyone, please do this:
http://www.frappr.com/zeIt only asks for your zip code, email, and handle. So theres no trouble about giving too much information out.
ZeRoRaVeN - February 10, 2006 01:17 PM (GMT)
You should do it on Feburary 20th in NYC. That's when the NYC Anime-con is going to be on!
Then again I already my are plans to go there and spend my day with the under-sq thingy....
New York City. Everyone but HaTcH likes NYC. Because he's not used to the city.
Silverliger - February 10, 2006 03:27 PM (GMT)
Oh cool! It would be so sweet if I could meet other zoidians but... sadly I live way to far from most of you guys. I live all the way down in Texas. Flying is very expensive right now. Anyway I'm saving up to go to an Anime Convention in June.
PlushRayseTiger - February 10, 2006 08:33 PM (GMT)
I want New York City! because I'm a Bronxite and lack a car... But if someone pays for the airfare, I'll go as far as Alaska. :P
Tilly - February 10, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
New York is too far for me right now. Gimme half a year and I might be able to work something out.
Who needs planes for within the US? YAY BUSES.
PlushRayseTiger - February 10, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
Buses.... X.x *conjures up images of the trip to Poughkeepsie* Hmm... ow.
Tilly - February 10, 2006 09:18 PM (GMT)
Greyhound buses are nice, and I rode various public transportation all over England and didn't keel over and die :p.
Sir Maverick - February 10, 2006 10:46 PM (GMT)
*has to agree with PlushRayseTiger about buses, even Greyhounds* ((Sorry, Tilly, but I'm bigger than you are, and that makes a difference.))
If it's in the Midwest or Northeast, I'll do my damnedest to find a way there. Chicago sounds decent (I have relatives there, so if they've got space I'll probably have a place to stay).

If this is going to happen next year, I will be able to drive out there. Or atleast move it more to the west. Maybe Cali...
HaTcH - February 11, 2006 02:27 AM (GMT)
No, california is WAY out of everyone's way. If you check the map you'll see theres a large distribution of people in the northern hearland.
Matrixdragon - February 11, 2006 02:46 AM (GMT)
Ok, put meself on Frapper. Pittsburgh might be nice. It seems right in the middle of everyone so far.
JammerLea - February 11, 2006 03:36 AM (GMT)
Train is also a nice way to travel, depending on if there's a station near the location. It's been years since I've been on Amtrak, but I enjoyed that the few times I took it to Chicago.
Tilly - February 11, 2006 03:59 AM (GMT)
Even if we can't manage a big gathering, I wanna have some kind of informal DVD marathon. Maybe us midwesterners could manage that...
Phelan - February 11, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
Speaking as a man from down south I probably won't be able to make it unless I have a place to stay. I can get there (probably) but can't afford to shell out the money for a place to stay.
Though I wish y'all the best of luck.

If I could come I could certainly make that happen... I've got all of CC/GF and NC/0 on DVD now...
Nightmare - February 11, 2006 09:27 PM (GMT)
This Zoids Con sounds awesome, but I dought I can go, (parents), but anyway, if it was in California (hopefully Silicon Valley cus thats where I live) I could try and go.
dragonmaster100 - February 21, 2006 01:40 AM (GMT)
Depending where it is I might be able to get my parents to let me go, or just drive there since I'll be able to drive in less than a year. My parents just don't like me going that far yet, but sometimes they let me do stuff.
yuris back - February 21, 2006 10:28 AM (GMT)
sounds to me that a lot of under 15/16s are on this board(me being one of them) so i suggs\est if you cant get it all done this year, it would be kind of better to wait a year so everyones older, but thats just my opinion(i cant go anyway, live in down in oz)
zeroreborn - February 21, 2006 01:04 PM (GMT)
well me and Atrophy Within are "supposed"to go on a road trip this summer so where ever it is we will probably be there..
Demon_Within - June 5, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
Is this ever going to take effect? Would sound fun, however, what exactly would everyone be doing once they all meet up together? Build Zoids around a campfire and sing the openning theme to New Century Zero?

Order of Events:
1. Show up in costumes
2. Make a video with the models, re-enacting all the famous battles.
3. Make a video with the cosplayers, re-enacting all the famous dialogue
4. Raid KB Toys and buy every zoid on the shelves
5. Tremble in fear when someone arrives cosplaying as Prozen
6. Tremble once more as someone arrives cosplaying as Gene
7. Watch Gene and Prozen duke it out with a pretend Bio Tyranno and a pretend Deathsaurer
8. Watch Jammer jump every guy who looks like O'Connell
Ever gonna happen? Nope, not likely...
Demon_Within - June 5, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
hahaha. The JammerLea one is just amusing.
Well, K B Toys has no more Zoids, so that one is out. I wouldn't mind dressing up as a character, I've done it one before. If perhaps someone had the brains to just suggest a multi-anime based convention, perhaps there would be more to do, and more people to attend. I still have my Darcia outfit, which would be fun to put on again.
I would say no ZEF convention, but a general anime convention from animes such as Zoids, Inu Yasha, Gundam and whatever else which has a lot of series. A general anime con would have too much variety. I would suggest Dragonball as well, but I hate that series above all others.
HaTcH - June 5, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
I called it Zoids Con, but really its limited to ZEF and friends... (getanimed, BSH etc...)
JammerLea - June 5, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
We have friends? o_0 (kidding)
Hahaha... I don't jump people, promise. >_>
Yeah, without a commitee or funding, it's not likely, though it's fun to imagine.
Another idea that may be more likely would to choose an anime convention somewhere that people can attend and make up a time and place where the group could meet.
I did that once before with a bunch of old TRHQ members at Anime Expo '03... We met a few times in some lobby's, decorated some shirts, drew on the back of a poster and took pictures. =3
I think that'd be a great way to do a meeting and not have to worry about a lot of organizing or funding. o_o
I still wanna do a Re Mii cosplay, but... no time to make a costume right now, and I'm so mad at Jafax. DX
Atrophy Within - June 5, 2006 11:49 PM (GMT)
Toa dd to Jammer's suggestion. Perhaps we could select a convention, then, for ZE, set up a Zoids section of the convention. If its a general anime convention then there are sections that are made by people who go specific to certain things. Would be cool to do that, and have a section for Zoids consisting of ZE members. hehe
