Title: avitar probelms...

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 01:39 AM (GMT)
ok, FOD just made me this sweet avi, and it wont let me make it my avi...help?

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 01:46 AM (GMT)
AVATAR.

You should follow the basic rules of making a topic. ;)

A clear descriptive topic, and a clear descriptive post. If you have a problem, elaborate on it, and be clear in saying what the problem is.

"wont let me make it my avi" is not descriptive.

If you told us what it showed, like it says your avatar is too large in terms of size or space, file type not accepted, and etc.

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 01:48 AM (GMT)
It said that there was an error, so I tryed to put in a URL, and that didnt work...and sorry I misspelled avatar.

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 01:54 AM (GMT)
Well, what kind of error? Can you provide a screenshot?

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
um...no...my compy dosent do screen shots...but I will copy and paset the error message.

Fury OD - March 13, 2006 01:59 AM (GMT)
Iv created the Avy 120 by 120...?_?...Maybe You should save it on Bitmap..Or maybe JPEG..Hmm..Im not shur..

Maybe it needs to be resized..*thinks*

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 02:00 AM (GMT)
The error returned was:

You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo

That is wat it said. Is there any solution?

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
What was the file type of the avatar?

Fury OD - March 13, 2006 02:05 AM (GMT)
I gave her it under JPEG..

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
it says its a BMP file

Fury OD - March 13, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
Hmm. can you save it onto another field?..Try saveing it on another one, maybe JPEG

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
EWWW!!!

A BMP! Time for you to listen to Tilly's rants!

NO! Do NOT saverename it as another file type. Contary to popular thought, renaming the extension does not work.

There is file information inside the file that is file type specific, you must convert it. There's a reason why there's different file types.

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 02:11 AM (GMT)
how do I do that?

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
Open it up in a program (no, not paint) like Adobe Photoshop, and save as, and select another extension in the drop down box. It should work.

And why would it be a bmp when fury gave you a jpeg?

I wish IE supported transparent PNGs...*sigh*

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
ok, I will do that...and I dunno how it did that. all of my pictures are being saved as a BMP...

ok, I have no idea how to do that, I just tryed it with this photoshop thing I have and it wouldnt work...

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?

BMP is IMO the worst file type. Even worst than GIF whose quality is more poor, but it's animatable.

BMP has nothing good about it.

If you want transparent or animated go for GIF.

If you want a good quality transparent go for PNG.

If you want an image at a smallish size (dont' save over and over again too much) go for JPEG.

There's tons more, but this is all I need.

Oh and PSD.

K-62 - March 13, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
Here use this http://www.irfanview.com/ file>save as>change "save as type" to gif, jpeg etc.

While were on this topic, does anyone know how to change the windows default from bitmap to something else?

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
I've seen that before, it works, but the thing hasn't been updated in ages.

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
ok, yes I am not very good with computers! And I dont know how to work that site...

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:27 AM (GMT)
See the drop down menu? Select the mirror closest to you.

K-62 - March 13, 2006 02:28 AM (GMT)
You have to download it, its just a simple little program.

If you're really that bad just click here http://www.download.com/3001-2192_4-10491149.html the DL window will pop up in a sec.

Why change/update something if it works

Murasame Liger - March 13, 2006 02:31 AM (GMT)
I dont get it! o_O What drop-down menu?

EDIT: ok, I will try that

EDIT again: ok, I still dont get this, man...i hate computers

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:36 AM (GMT)
x.X Some download prompt should popup with K-62's link.

K-62 - March 13, 2006 02:39 AM (GMT)
Fury OD could just post it here and you just copy the link.

lol this topic is going to be 3 pages soon

ZeRoRaVeN - March 13, 2006 02:46 AM (GMT)
No, I think there's a file type problem....

K-62 - March 13, 2006 02:54 AM (GMT)
Oh, I thought OD had the original jpeg file.

What the hell is this imvu.com thing it's so big and eye burningly fuzzy?!

Actually, they have programs that will mass e-mail someones inbox, forcing them to abandon the account or spend hours upon hourse deleting all the e-mails.

Tilly - March 15, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
And talking about that here is a bad idea. *thwaps you both*

The Zombie - March 15, 2006 05:51 PM (GMT)
Ouch... *hides from Tilly*

Anyways, BMP's are something that shouldn't be used often...

Oh that's amazingly easy to code in php.

Use phpmail() and then put a infinite loop!!!

(Edit by Tilly-Oi, I said not to talk about that. *thwap*)

JammerLea - March 15, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
Zero, didn't Tilly just say not to talk about that? Or have my browsing skills gone bad?

*ahem*

In Adobe Photoshop, you want to use a feature that is NOT "Save" or "Save as" but "Save for Web". From there you can choose from the formats .jpg, .gif, and .png. All of these files are Internet Friendly image files. .jpg is the most common, though .gif isn't too bad for avatars.

You can mess with the quality of the image too to see how much compression you want or don't want. *shrugs*

I find .bmp files to be nice for my desktop images, but that's about it.

Errrrr, Save for Web is when you want to save a sliced image for a layout... o.O

Save As is for saving as file types other than psd.

Murasame Liger - March 16, 2006 01:18 AM (GMT)
But my computer dosent have Adobe Photoshop...

K-62 - March 16, 2006 01:25 AM (GMT)
Click>>>> http://www.download.com/3001-2192_4-10491149.html

the download window will pop up and click 'save as' then select your desktop after its done downloading double click and install it. Then open your image with the installed program, afterwards click in 'file' then 'save as'. In the 'save as' window you should see a bar near the bottom that says 'save as type' click that and you will get a drop down thingy that has all types of formats on it. Select 'jpeg' or 'gif' and then click the 'save' button on the left side of the window. You should have a .jpeg or .gif file on you desktop.

If needed I can also make pictures of each step, but it might take awhile. :P

Oh boy. If you knew anything about php then you would’ve known that what I posted had nothing to do with email sending.

Not only did I state it in my post & code itself that I had omitted the actual code needed to send email, but it was in the comments itself.

I was demonstrating the use of while. Did you see the “//EMAIL SENDING CODE GOES HERE” comnment? That would be where the actual email sending code would go. Please, read my post more carefully before you decide to screw the rights of members and just edit out parts of their post.

Guess what? So is it restricted now to post links to php tutorials demonstrating the use of the while function?

Look similiar? I can't post links to that?

Tilly - March 16, 2006 02:07 AM (GMT)
No, I don't know PHP. That's why I edited that out, in case it did contain something harmful. I'm not screwing your rights over by telling you not to talk about spamming people, either.

JammerLea - March 16, 2006 02:31 AM (GMT)
@Drk-X - Maybe it's because I'm most familiar with Photoshop 5.5 which I don't remember ALLOWING the .jpg option under "Save As" and have therefore never tried "save as" on the newest Photoshop at school, but as far as my experience goes, "Save for Web" works perfectly fine in Photoshop. It's Adobe ImageReady that is used for slicing web layout images. (The newest version of ImageReady has given me constant ANGST because of that, and thus I always use "Save for Web" under Photoshop at school.)

@Murasame Liger - A previous post of yours where you said you tried that "photoshop thing" or something led me to assume that you have Photoshop. If you do not have Adobe Photoshop, please let us know which image program(s) you do have so that we may assist you better.

@Zero - I'm sorry, but your post did read as something attached to the previous topic of e-mail spamming. Whether it was or not, I do not know (meaning it wasn't stated clearly enough if at all, and I missed it). The average person does not have the same php knowledge that you do, so I personally don't understand a lick of any programming posts you make. If this is indeed our mistake, I apologize on behalf of the message board.

Tilly - March 16, 2006 02:36 AM (GMT)
Saying that a spam program is "amazingly easy to code in PHP" certainly counts, methinks.

ZeRoRaVeN - March 16, 2006 01:08 PM (GMT)
*gives Jammer a cookie* thank you.

@Tilly why else we we get so much spam? :D

I can't tell you how much you sound like a web hosting company in a support ticket.

Photoshop can also slice, and I'm sure .jpeg or .jpg is there. The save for web is a bit complex for someone new to photoshop.
