Title: Snaaaake! <3

Steve - April 13, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
On my way home from school, I spotted the most awesome little Garter Snake sunning itself in the grass next to the path. It was so pretty... different from any other Garter Snake I've seen. Instead of black with three yellow stripes, this one was black with a single yellow stripe running down its back fringed by two red ones. I just *had* to get a picture of it, but I didn't have my camera on me... so I took it home, stuck it in Stompy's cage and took some pics.

Isn't it cute?

Stompy doesn't seem to care.

I'll probably take it back down where I found it and release it later. For now, I'm setting up Stompy's plastic cave for it to hide in. He doiesn't use it anymore, so the snake is gonna bunk there until I can walk back down to where I found it.

Aw, it's all tiny and pokey. The one time I got to see a garter snake up close as a kid was when I accidently poked one when raking leaves, and it scared me by being all RARR HISS I BITE YOU before I tossed it off the rake and it slithered off.

I saw 2 garter snakes like 2 years ago..they were both just hanging out near to the house..

But befor I even got to look at them up close my pops took a merchede and began to chop them up..And I quote " DIE SATAN DIE!!!!" unquote...

I was pissed..I was like, WTF !!! are you crazy..How could you kill an innocent snake like that..He said "SHUT UP!! ITS EVIL!!! ARE YOU EVIL TOO?!!!!"...

And I watched the red blood everywhere and almost threw up...*bad exsperiences with garter snake* !_!...

Aww! That poor snake!

...Well, here's a much happier picture. I was out of the room for a while, and I came back... to see THIS.

They're friends now!

...I'm half-tempted to keep the snake now. xp On one hand, Stompy doesn't seem to be afraid of it, and vice versa. OTOH, it's a wild animal; it could have diseases and stuff, and I don't want Stompy to catch anything from it. Hrm.

:'( ...I want a snake tooo...Naaa, maybe I'll just focus on the lovebird first...^_^

Cute. I found a rather large female brown snake 3 days ago at the local park, thing. Its just a brown snake, and she is about 15 inches long. Not as pretty as the one you found, but she lets me hold her, and stuff. I took her home and am keeping her. First time I went to pick her up, she just kinda chilled in my hands, and when I put her face near some water, she drank, without seeming to be nervous, or afraid.

I'm trying to get her to eat, but I bought superworms, and they just annoy her. I will probubly try feeding her small fish, or frozen baby mice, but I'm not sure. I want to see if I can't catch some small frogs at the park to give her. She is a cute snake, you can just let her crawl all over, and she won't try to hide, or get away if you reach towards her.

I have a small baby red earred slider that is jealous of the snake getting all the attention. Aren't they just too cute though?

Where do you live, Steve? I wish the garters around here were that pretty. lol I would have a firend for my female.

On the note of if the snake has a disease, if its with your lizard, its already too late to worry about that. Your lizard is alreayd now exposed to it, however, if they both seem fine, in which case they should be, I don't see any harm.

Take the snake in for a visit with a vet to be sure. Is it a male or female? I know sometimes males will be redish., but thats just here in Michigan, I don't know about other states.

Either way, cute snake, and pics.

I live in Ontario, Canada. The garters have just recently come out of hibernation, now that most of the snow has melted.

No idea if it's a male or a female, although it has no "bulge" near the base of its tail so I'm assuming female.

I'm not *terribly* worried about Stompy getting sick. Bearded Dragons are tough, and I've fed him wild insects before... but there's a Animal Hospital nearby. Maybe I'll bring him in.

STOMPY/GARTER SNAKE OTP <3

It's a very pretty snake. We used to have garter snakes at the house I grew up in; my sister and I used to love to catch them and bring them into the house to scare our mom. We were brats. :P Our garters looked a bit different from this one you've found, though.

I picture this really cute scene of a tiny snake trying to be all tough. ADORABLE!

Exactly what I was going to say XP

I've only ever seen one snake (outside of the zoo) and not close up, because it was poisonous...
Anyone want to bring snakes into New Zealand so I can see some more? XP

Scottfab - April 14, 2006 01:46 PM (GMT)
I want it.

I should see plenty of snakes, I'm in the midwest now. Too surburban I guess.

Keep the snake. Take it to the vet. But you'd probably want to give it a seperate cage.

By the way, your lizard is the most apathetic creature I've ever seen.

That's exactly what my dad would do. He thinks snakes are the devil...0.0

Anyway, cool snake Steve. How did you pick him up to take him home? I tried to pick up a baby black racer once and it bit me... <_<

Steve - April 14, 2006 03:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah. I caught it with my hands, brought it home in my backpak. I've been handling it since then, it's pretty docile.

I might release it today, depending on if I'm feeling not-lazy enough to change out of my PJs. xp

König Warrior - April 14, 2006 05:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's pretty cool. I can relate to some of you, my dad is completely anti-snake. It's not that he thinks they are evil, but he is very afraid of them, my dad has a phobia of all snakes because of the many that are poisonous.. especially where we live.. souther Arizona... round spring, summer, fall... you start to see a lot of Rattlesnakes.. Diamondbacks are common even. Sadly lately a lot of natural areas are being turned into housing developments around where I live now, that will just draw more snakes out.

Zeke - April 14, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)
Aww!!! Cute snake! That's so cute! We had one in our yard before, but dad ran it over with the lawnmower... I'm a reptile lover, so I was upset about that... It was a real pretty one too.

Matrixdragon - April 15, 2006 12:20 AM (GMT)
It seems all our elderlies are against snakes...

usually male snakes will have two little claws, were their rear legs once were, before evolution deemed legs useless. Not all species have them, so I'm not sure if your snake would have them, but usually the males will. I'm assuming mine is female based on that, but femlaes are usually never a pretty color, as it's the males in most species who must attract the females. I would say yours is probubly male, mine is female, but I couldn't say for sure.

Its pretty none the less. If you have such pretty snakes there then i should be able ot find a few ones around here jsut as attractive. hehe

Going to the park tomarrow to see if I can't find a possible friend for my baby turtle. Red earred sliders and painted turtles generally only lvie 10 years in the wild, in captivity, they can live 50 years, so I guess its not a morally bad thing I take a few from the wild. Especially, since if I manage to breed them, the babies will be released at the park. Meh

At the park the other day, I saw a goldfish int he pond. An accualy, pet store goldfish. I was like "WTF?" hehe. Oh well, I guess people got tired of their pet, and let it go. How is servive the winter, if it was released during or before the winter, is beyond me.
