Title: The New Revolution: WII
Description: ....it could have been worse
Drk-X - April 29, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
...I'm very surprised no one else posted this when the news has been out so long >.<
http://revolution.nintendo.com/New name: Nintendo Wii.
For those that don't know Japanese spelling/pronounciation, it's pronounced as "whee" not "why" so yeah.
The name is changed in order to give a better connotation to the average person that "Playstation" and "X-Brick"...it makes sense too. Games are meant to be fun. X-Brick 360's name doesn't make sense. 360 = full circle....nothing changed except for load times, graphics, and crashing :]

...spammit, what a stupid name. >_< I get/like the themes and whatnot behind it, but they coulda picked something less faggy sounding. xp Oh well, I'm not gonna let a stupid sounding name keep me from getting one. xp
I'm just gonna keep calling it the Nintendo Revolution. >_>
PlushRayseTiger - April 29, 2006 09:53 PM (GMT)
"United Wii stand, divided Wii fall" The name will take some getting used to, but I like it better than PSP or PS3 because it's original, to say the least. "Mommy, can I play with my Wii?" *Wii is still on pre-order, even if they change the name to something worse*
Steve - April 29, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah. It's a funny sounding name, but it doesn't make it any less of a system. Hell, this name could possibly help it sell better... I mean, the gaming world is all aflutter over this and has gotten them to stop and look at the Revolution/Wii... I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a big publicity stunt. xp
I'm *so* gonna get one, no ifs ands or buts. I mean... d00d. Super Smash Bros ONLINE! Only reason I stopped playing Melee was 'cause I ran out of people to play it with after they all ran off to the X-Brick... no chance of that happening with the Wii.
And the new controller kicks ass.

Haha... yeah, I know its old news but here's my 2 cents:
Even though its a stupid sounding name, it opens up a whole crapload of marketing ideas like advertisements with "Wii will Wii will rock you!" and all the other cute puns you can think of. So, overall- it might not be another Nintendo naming screw-up.
At least its alot more original than the PS3 or the X-Box 360.

Wow, finally a board where nobody is senselessly bashing the name... I’ve been staying away from the GameFAQs Wii board (which is still called Revolution on there. Guess CJayC doesn’t like the new name) like it’s been the plague.
Personally, I’m growing to like the name more. It’s different, and to me, different is good. It’s why I also stay away from iPods like they’re the plague. Plus, after reading (half of) the Game Informer article on Red Steel and staring at the amazing screenshots (just because they’re not as good as 360, doesn’t make them bad...) there’s no way I CAN’T get a Wii *snickers* I mean, who wouldn’t want to grab your Wii’s controller *snickers harder* and wave it around to control a katana in the game! And guns! Hell, turn the controller sideways while holding a gun and in the game you’ll also be holding the gun sideways like you’re some gangsta! Now, if only it supported using two controllers to dual wield...
Also, numerically, W = 23 and I = 9. Subtract two 9s from 23 and you get 5. This is Nintendo’s fifth console (not including VirtualBoy, which was technically a portable, just not a very portable one). Odd, huh?

Haha, some of the reactions are funny but most of them fail.
Too bad most of them never thought of the lines of: Ahhh... the names of the next generation gaming consoles, XBox 360 and the Revolution are waay too similar if you think about it. Following a path of a revolution is a circle and a circle has 360 degrees with respect to the origin.

Heh. Well, if it *really* comes down to it, you could say "Oh yeah? Well my Wii totally pisses all over your 360/PS3!" xp

OMG its teh Axel!Anyway i'm going to buy PS3 because of the controller's bluetooth XDD
The_Princess - May 18, 2006 06:48 AM (GMT)
Yes becasue nothing says uninspired like ganking the concept of your compeditors controller and then dropping in an over priced, wireless turnkey that won't actualy provide any significant change in functionality whatsover over a home brand (and therefore much goddamend cheaper) alternitive.
Seriously, a very significant part of the ps3's cost is going to be in licencing fees. ok if its goign to be a PC replacement, but it's not, and for the price you can get a pc with bluetooth and a Wii.
I;ve personaly come outa the E3 hype finding to my great suprise that my position on the curretn gen of consoles (ps2 beingthe one console to rule them all) entirely reversed.
Zelos - May 18, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
Psst; hey, Star; the PS3’s controllers ripped off the Wii’s motion sensitivity and the Wii’s controllers use Bluetooth as well (I’m not even sure if Bluetooth is what the PS3 uses...) plus the Wii will be at least $200 less expensive and offer new gaming experiences the likes of which you’ve never even thought possible.
