Title: help?
Murasame Liger - May 3, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
Ok, in my English class, im doing a big project or research paper. and It would be awsome if I could do it on Zoids. So I was wondering, if anyone knew a good topic I could use to write a research paper. And this paper will be 6 to 8 paragraphs long. So like, if you guys could help, that would be great, thank you!

What are the specific requirements of the research paper? Surely, it's not like, "Go research something, make sure it's 6 to 8 paragraphs!".
Murasame Liger - May 3, 2006 11:27 PM (GMT)
lol, well the retarded teacher didnt specify that much. But like...hmmm...im not sure how to explain it. But all of the topics that he gave us were depressing, so he said we could choose another. So like, maybe, what do you think you would write about? thats kinda wat im asking.
EDIT: btw, I meant to put this in Spam, but I put it in media, sry.

The effect of violence in cartoons (namely Anime) on children.
The educational benefits of cartoons (namely Anime) on children.

Do a serious contemporary issue. That'll definitely score if you can write well and sophisicated.
Or do what I did in Year 8: Sweet Condensed Milk. I used the same speech twice (Year 8 and Year 10) and it exceeded my expectations when it comes to marking...
Maybe that's just me... :\

Moved it to spam. ^^
I don't have a specific idea relating to Zoids, but that would be amusing if you could do a decent report on them. Funny, 6 to 8 paragraphs just doesn't seem like a lot to me anymore.
You SHOULD write about something that interests you personally. Don't just write to do the assignment. It'll be better if you like the subject, because then you'll be willing to put more effort into it, and... it'll just be better. Personal interest will come across in a report. XD
So first, why don't you make up a list of topics that interest you or may interest you? o_o

I almost wrote one about 24 and portrayals of heros and villains. But I didnt. I cant see how to make Zoids into a legitimate research paper. Atleast in my potential 24 paper, my professor is a fan.

Yeah, exactly. Its more going to be a recount more than anything else. I'm kinda assuming that you need statistics and surveys as support on this research paper (actually, i have never done a 'research paper' for english so i wouldn't know! just trying to help!). Its best if you can ask one or two people on a survey and bullcrap the rest. Statistics... grab some statistics from the internet (and i don't care what country!) and yeah, bullcrap that afterwards.
The entire point of this post: For support; add any believable bullcrap that you can think of.
And from my previous post- serious contemporary issues like "the mixed reactions of Moussaoui's sentence and is his sentence justified?" (i'll probably do that one if i was in ur shoes). Boring but you only need to look at a couple of news articles, have a general view of the audience reactions and your set. Not much research required and putting the information together into 6-8 paragraphs isn't too hard.
But its all up to you! Do something about your interests... (like Rat said) like "the origins of guitars and how they evolved throughout the ages" and sh-t.

Make your research project on the whether or not democracy works and if the participation of the common person in government has true value. I had to write an argument essay on this in AP English and I got a 9, which is the highest grade you can get. I'm sure you can turn that into a research paper.
HaTcH - May 4, 2006 05:15 PM (GMT)
Yeah, doing a research paper as a formal argument is probably the best approach. Think of some subject that not everyone agrees with and then through the course of the paper, inform them about it.
Last semester I had an english class devoted to writing Arguments (as a matter of fact, that was the title of the book... XD) and we used all kinds of different argument styles.. It was a pretty good class.

Here:
The Benefits of Introducing Kids to Plastic Modelling (that includes Zoids):
1. Makes kids familiar with handling precise parts
2. Following Visual Instructions is a good practice for other applications
3. Kids who play with toys that they are encouraged to explore the assembly of will probably find it easier to make simple repairs on their vehicle, or things around the house when older. (I don't know if it's true, but it makes sense)
4. Plastic Modelling is a safe, very productive hobby that can get kids interested in how things work, fine-scale painting and perhaps other similar arts at an early age.
It's broad, but you can use Zoids as an example for all of this.

All right, as it turns out, I couldnt think of anything that my #^#@ed up teacher would accept. He told em I couldnt write about zoids cause he dont know wat they are. So im gonna write about Dragons instead.
JammerLea - May 7, 2006 05:49 AM (GMT)
o_0 That's silly! Well, at first I thought, what's wrong with writing a research paper on an unknown topic so that he can LEARN about it? But then I thought perhaps it has something to do with the fact that if he knows the topic, he might have a better idea of whether or not the info is being made up pr not.
Of course that could be solved with the use of a bibliography... oh well.
I thought something on the history of Zoids might've been interesting. But yeah... finding proper materials to research from is the hard part.
Dragons are nice. Be sure to tell us how the paper turns out.
