Title: Best way to make money?

GenoFox - May 11, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
I need some money (for a PS3) I already got a hundred, and other way to make 500 more?

I decided to do detasseling (only in NE, I think) and if that doesn't get me enough, I'd like to find another way.

HaTcH - May 11, 2006 02:33 AM (GMT)
Get a job. Work in a convienience store or something.

If you lived in a more rural area, I'd tell you to cut grass for your neighbors...

You could gamble the original 100 in the lottery. :P

1:4 chance you'd atleast break even...

Atrophy Within - May 11, 2006 05:21 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't watse my money on the PS3 if I were you, first editions releases always have problems, and thus, second and third editions are released. Look at the PS2, Xbox, and already the 360.

Just give it a few months, wait for the second edition at least, and maybe, wait for the price to drop.

Fair warning, press release states only 1 million units will be sold on the release date, and NO reserves are allowed. 1 million units for the entire US. Thats 20,000 units per states, if its an even distribution. Even further, if you dived each state by at LEAST 20 major cities, thats 1000 units per major city.

Average population of each major city is probubly near 2/3 a million people, or more.

The chances you will even SEE a PS3 is remote, let alone obtain one anytime soon, since the millions of people who missed the first thousand, will be in line for the next delivery of the PS3s.

Also, there is not many ready to release PS3 games out. Even if you DID bag a system first try, you will ahve to fork over the $50- $80 per game, if you can even find thus at any store. The games wills ell more than the systems as those planning on getting the PS3, even if they have not gotten their's yet, wills till be buying the games.

I do not mean to sound so bleak, but I seriously would vote against getting the PS3, not now anyways.

Give it another generation or two, to be safe of any issues the system may have first run. All systems have issues, and PS3 will be no different.

Atrophy Within - May 11, 2006 05:41 AM (GMT)
*sigh*

Ok, review for the PS3 release, and unit.

First of all, when Sony releases this system in stores, they have officially confirmed, on multiple accounts, that only 1 million units will be released for sale. 1 million nation wide for the US.

Thats 20,000 units per states. Every state has at least 20 major cities, of which will have several stores which will sell this system. Thats about 1000 per major city, in each state.

On average, each major city as about 3/4 a million residents. The chances any less than 200,000 people in those cities WON'T be interested in the PS3 is nearly improbuble.

So, what we have here, is a ratio (in estimated terms) of 200 people in line for every 1 system.

There will be absolutely no reserves for the system, per Sony's policy as well, so that this 1 million unit release can be evenly distributed.

The estimated amount of time it will take before a system can manage to stay in a store for more than 12 hours of shelf-life is around 3 months. Then the estimate jumps to 24 hours for estimated shelf-life before purchase. They estimate this for an additional 9 months.

Looking at those figures, it is beleived that not a single PS3 will be able to remain on a shelf for more than 24 hours, until a year has past since its release. This is mainly due to Sony's decision to release this unit in smaller amounts.

It seems stupid of Sony, but accually it is quite cleaver. Not everyone wants a PS3, nor cares. But by releasing a small few, compared to what is expected to be the overall gross sales for this system, is a kind of test and tease. It first tests the systems function, and ensures the system performs as predicted. At the same time, it promotes the system, as those who HAVE obtained one will cling to it, and thus self promote it to friends, family, ect.

Asside from the release numbers, ect. There is another issue at hand.

Every singe game system ever issued had several problems. Already PS2, Xbox and even 360 have had several generations of systems. You can surely remember the PS2 issue of the systems of the first generation failing to play DVDs at times for no reason. Well, Sony has no way of knowing until release if this system will have problems down the road.

Sony has altered the PS3 and its ahrdware many times, so its understandable that the company has not given the unit to be released a GOOD test run to see of its abilities, and to work out any bugs it may have.

Putting your almost impossible chance of getting your hands on a PS3 to begin with, also, you should note its wiser to allow the system to go a few months past release date, to ensure the system has no problems. getting a newer generation is the best way to go, as each generation that is made, will have issues the previous one had, fixed. In most cases anyways.

No, asside from the availability, and the generation issue.... There is the games to worry about.

PS3 will not be released with many games available. As well, each game will be from $50 - $80 a peice. Not only will the people who accually obtained a system be buying these games, but those planning on getting the system will jump the gun and buy the games early.

In fact, its estimated that the games will sell faster than the systems.

In my honest opinion. I suggest waiting at least 5 months after the release date. As well, the price will drop eventually.

Its suggested at least 8% of the PS3s will be stolen, and then sold. Maybe you could get lucky enough to find one used at a Game Stop.

I say save your money, and just buy something else to pass the nest few months before you accually get the system.

If you absolutely MUST buy it, then as Hatch said, get a job and work for it.

Drk-X - May 11, 2006 04:05 PM (GMT)
I know a way to save money at least....

....don't get a PS3 :]

Atrophy Within - May 11, 2006 07:37 PM (GMT)
I just checked the E3 updates, and there is new news.

PS3 will debute with two different versions. One will be $500, and it will NOT have a harddrive. The other version HAS the harddrive, and will be $600.

You can NOT buy the $500 unit without the harddrive, and then install a harddrive. So, if you EVER wish to have a harddrive on your PS3 you MUST buy the $600 unit.

Also, another updates.

ALL PS3 Games will be non re-sellable. Once you purchase your game, open it and insert it into your system, the unit will imprint onto the CD, and register it to your system alone. You can NEVER use that game on any other system. So if you system breaks, or is stolen, all your games are worthless. As well, all your games cannot be sold as there is NO way to remove the registration on the disks.

Once a game is registered to a system, which is is by simply inserting it into your unit, it is completely worthless. You can never sell it, or trade it. There will be NO used PS3 games, EVER!

Keep this in mind when you play using your system. If you are a big fan of having lots of games, do realise, if your system ever gets busted, you drop something on it, you die and kick the crap out of it, or soemone steals it, ALL those games are of a $0 value, and cannot be used for anything.

I've not heard anything on if Sony will issue special games that can be rentals without having to be registered, but I will post if I do.

You are wasting a lot of money on a system as poor as this one if you DO buy it. Just remember that.

You CAN try to get Sony to refund you for your games and system if the system itself breaks for no reason, however, good luck with that. DUe to the fact the games are trash once the system is dead, they should be obligated to refund for all, so long as you can prove the system malfunctioned due to their error, and not yours.

Still think its worth $600?

xXfriedenXx - May 11, 2006 08:04 PM (GMT)
Get a job, invest in stocks and bonds, and wait until it's cheaper! Triple win!

GenoFox - May 11, 2006 09:20 PM (GMT)
I wasn't planning on buying it the exact day it comes out, maybe if I have the money.

THere is a lot of reasons for me getting the PS3, one of them being Metal Gear Solid 4.

Wrong. The $499 version has a 20 GB HD and the $599 has 60GB....$100 for an extra 40GB....for the same amount of money, I could buy a 250GB Laptop drive and modify the PS3 after a quick job...

Leave the E3 updates to those who keep up with it....or at least get yourself a TV that has G4, despite how much that channel sucks today..

The_Princess - May 12, 2006 12:04 AM (GMT)
More reasons to Wii. Espicaly since as an old old gamer I can drop 5 bux and download a NES game, t bux For SNES and 10 bux for n64 stuff. No matter how many joy pads i go thorugh, playing console games works best on consoles, not emulators. With rumours of Turbio Grafix games being added to the list of downloadables too, the Wii keeps looking better n better, despite its retarded name.

Thats what I got the info from. E3 coverage from G4. Stupid channel, but meh, only one with coverage I beleive. Only one that I recieve anyways.

There is one cool thing about the PS3 though. Sensors int he controller which allow you to manuver in the game by simply moving the controller. No doubt difficult to use, and not compatable with all games, but I bet it will be pretty nifty.

Supposedly you can't modify the PS3. I doubt thats entirely true, but I've heard countless times Sony is trying to make it unable to be modifyed. Dunno how that will fly, but meh. if you ahve to modify a system to get it to be worth using, tis not worth having to begin with.

I would never spend that amount of money, jsut to play ONE game.

I'm just looking forward the God of War 2, and Prey. I will just let one of my idiot friends buy the system. hehe

Hdorriker - May 12, 2006 07:29 AM (GMT)
Wii may have a bad name... but quite frankly, aesthetically, it is way nicer to look at then the PS3... ...IN EVERY FREAKING WAY.

I mean seriously, the PS2 case(s) ACTUALLY look newer than the 3's!. BUT At least Sony *did* get rid of that HORRIBLE 'boomerang' controler that looked like a mid-nineties, catastrohpic ergonomics experiment that resulted in the ugliest controller EVER.

Aside from that: $500 for a new system? NO... just, no...
Give it a few months, when the 'OMG ITS A NEW F-ING SYSTEM BUY IT NOW!' rush dies down it will drop in price INEVITABLY. Just as Atrophy_within said

Geee how original...motion sensitivity....now if only the Wii didn't have that for a year...good move Sony...

Just because the people at Sony say it cannot modified does not make it true. you don't have to work at Sony to be smart, SOMEONE will come out with a way. [/common sense]

That is assuming you have a computer with 2 compatable IDE/SATA ports (which ever it uses), an operating system that can read the partition table, and the ability to mark the new drive bootable. (if it runs how I think it does)

The PS3.. is this the one that had multiple Mac processors? That means big endian bit encoding, so you'd need a Mac to read the drive.. (well... it could probably be done with some sort of emulator)

Also, what is the purpose of the hard drive, beyond game saves? Obviously its an important feature if its freakin 60GB!

Drk-X - May 12, 2006 05:07 PM (GMT)
Both the PS3 and X-Brick 360 are pretty much computers, so not only are they for saves and replays, but you can store stuff on the drives as well.....waste....

PS3 is the one that has the laptop processors and hard drive...

HaTcH - May 12, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I figured. I thought the games would like... install on the PS3, and would partially run from the hard drive. *shrugs*

The Zombie - May 12, 2006 06:05 PM (GMT)
PS3 sounds worthless if you ask me... Buy a game and if your system busts, you have worthless software. What does it do, burn onto the CD? Ridiculous... I think SONY has finally smoked too much crack with its stupid ideas.

Go get a job at a fast food place they usually don't ask for any experience and also train you. I recently got a job at PizzaPizza, they trained me and are paying me $9/h starting pay. Its pretty go considering its my first time working.

One more thing, I dont get why everyone is using this help me thread to drop opinions on someones desire for a PS3. If he/she wants one you got to respect that, don't tell them things like it sucks and don't waste your money.

Did you seriously expect people to simply comment on the best way to get money when a person explains the reason is a console? That's an opening right there for console discussion. People will express their opinions and some may disagree/agree on his choice to get a job to purchase a certain console. It's almost inevitable. In a way it's related, he could be persuaded to go for a cheaper console thus changing the array of options he has and can consider to earn money.

Mystickskye - May 14, 2006 01:37 AM (GMT)
Whilst expected I still find it rather rude and disrespectful. This guy has said he wants a PS3 and it's very possible that he wanted one quite badly. Certainly I'd think so if he's going to be paying the initial launch price. All I really see is people going "PS3 is stupid! Don't get one!"

I know for a fact that I'm going to be getting a PS3 and none of the comments in this thread have done anything to dissuade me from that. I'll also be getting another next gen console though whether that's a Wii or 360 remains to be seen.

JammerLea - May 14, 2006 06:41 AM (GMT)
Um, while it's true that there are various opinions on what the person wants, whether it be a game console, car, CD, whatever, the initial topic open is how to earn money, not the debate over the quality of the item that is wanted.

o_o

Yeah... the best way to make money is to get a job. It really depends on the individual as to what type of job they can get and will be good at doing. Of course there's that saying of "beggers can't be choosers." It's hard to just ask other people for suggestions. XD;

I worked at Burger King before... that wasn't too bad, but then it was a fairly decent BK and not too far from where I live. Fast food isn't the best job ever, but it's a good experience. And it DOES pay at least minimum wage.

If you get a job where you work as a waiter/waitress, you'll make LESS than minimum wage, as they expect you to make the rest in tips (so you better be a GOOD member of the wait staff). Can't say I ever want to work as a waitress. o_o

Stay on topic? How- how does one do that? Obviously I must post my personal opinion about the console itself!!! How else will everyone get to hear about how much I loathe the ps3?? And I need to be heard.

Yes, I'm joking.

AS for the money problem: Getting a job magically helps you earn money. It is a proven scientific fact!

If I were more ruthless I'd make a good Zoid scalper. As it is anything rare ends up in my collection or passed on to friends :p.

GenoFox - May 19, 2006 01:55 AM (GMT)
Haha, I got a job a few days ago and I start tomorrow night I think.

Yeah, and I was thinking about it. I decided not to get a PS3 this year. NOBODY on this board changed my mind about it. THe price is too high, the launch titles dont look to good.

I decided to get an Xbox360. less money, a few better games and something to do until the PS3 price goes down and Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out next year, and more money to spend when I get a better job.

Illidan - May 23, 2006 12:38 AM (GMT)

The PS3 is a GIANT ENEMY CRAB of a console and its insane price tag is the PS3's weak point. Use your REAL TIME WEAPON CHANGE to flip it over and attack its weak point to inflict MASSIVE DAMAGE!
