Title: What a day
Description: Waterfalls are awesome

Atrophy Within - May 28, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
Its about 90 degrees outside I would say, clear sky, and a short breeze, yet I'm inside avoiding the sunburn associated with such a fine day. Itsn't it funny how you can wish and wish and wish for such a nice day in the winter, yet when it comes, the heat is unbarable and you find yourself inside, freezing from the AC and wondering what youa re going to do for the day?

I was just wonder what all of you plan on doing for your nice summer days? I've been turtle catching during the rainy days, and swimming for the warm days, but now I'm bored of both. I've even gone hiking with nothing more than my boots and a bottle of water for hours on end.

I found a small waterfall off the property up north we have, and its just big enough for a nice swim below, or a cooling shower under the fall, or even a fun hike up the slope to the openning of the underground river that leads to the falls.

Its really cool, as there are lots of turtles and fish in the pool at the base of the fall, and snakes and lizards near the top. There is a fox den near by and somewheres in the area there is a coyote that howls back if you come out at night and sing the song of the moon.

I've been sitting at the base of the fall every night now, just watching the stars overhead. Never in my life have I been in a place where the city lights are so far off, in their direction you can see a faint red glow coming from them. Above on clear nights the sky is so full of stars its as if the black velvet of neverending space is overwhemled by the thick fog of yellow, blue and white twinkling masses. Its absolutely stunning.

The falls is on our neighboring property which is for sale. I'm signing the paperwork for it on Tuesday when the holiday is over, and since the falls is without name we will be registering a name for it. The water is rough at the top, but its very gentle when it hits the base of the fall since there are rocks that stick out, slowing the water, and spreading it out. I was thinking of Nevala Falls, since the name is rough, then soft, like the falls. It was the name of one of my friends horses, and she was a very gentle horse, that loved attention and being rode.

There are a few smaller falls near the main one that are run offs to either side but I don't think we will name them. I'm going to take some pictures soon of it. Its so beauitful, despite not being less than 50 feet tall. You can lay down at the base, next to the water, and look up at the sky. Its so peaceful. All you hear is the gentle sound of the falls, the crickets, sometimes the coyotes, and you are enveloped by the see of stars, and space.

I'm trying to dig a small pit near the base of the falls, for a firepit. My friends and I will also be planting bushes in a circle around the treeline in front of the falls, marking the small bank and field of the base, and the treeline apart. Its very neat. We might also wear out a sand and dirt path from the fall base to where a field is, which will be our main camp site area. I'm hoping to put in a modular home further into the woods, for for about 7 acres in any direction from the falls, I want nothing but tents at the most. Its very cool. I love being up north, especially on the porperty, its very calming.

Being in the city is like having a big sack of weights on my back. All the nose, all the smells of buildings, car, people. Its so choking, and blinding. I'm lucky if I can see 20 or more stars at night in the city. Mainly we only see constilations liek Orion and the Little Dipper, ect.

I think everyone should enjoy the outdoors, ecpecially being in the woods if possible. Nothing kicks in those natural, wild instincts, like trudging around in the woods, and occupying yourself with the wildlife, and scenery.

So thats pretty much what I'm doing this summer. playing in the woods, swimming, hiking, and fishing.

So to the point of this thread, what are YOU doing this summer? Do you have any special places you go? Anything cool?

(Jammer you are sooo invited to come and visit this summer! :D )
