Title: Space Shuttle Launch
HaTcH - September 9, 2006 03:06 PM (GMT)
Whut! :P Space Shuttle Atlantis is set to launch in 10 minutes. Check it out on TV. The station I'm watching is C-SPAN.
Anyway, its a 6 person crew and and 11 day mission to install solar panels on the Space Station.

Hooray, I've always watched those with my little brother. It's almost like a tradition, at least for the last two launches.

D'oh! Missed it... Ah well, it'll be on the news for a while. ;)

Yeh, AFAIK, all is well. There was a little bit of a scare with some foam, but they're quite sure everything is fine. Yay NASA!

zomg darn! I was totally gone during the whole thing. D= Oh well.
I'm gonna miss the space shuttles when they retire them, but... safety first and all.

I missed it of course. Far too damn busy lately. I would much rather be watching the footage of the Crocodile Hunter being nailed by a stingray. More exciting than a several thousand ton bit of scrap metal being hurled into space.
:P

I was listening to the coverage on ESPN, and they had a camera mounted between the shuttle and the booster. They gave current statistics every once in a while about how fast the thing was moving, and after like 3 or 4 minutes, they were in excess of 10000 miles per hour. I'm not 100% clear on what the exact figure was, all I know is that it was insane. To get to that kind of speed in that kind of time involves some SERIOUS acceleration. Dang.
What a ride!

But without the gravitational pulls at the hieght they were when they got that fast it must have not "felt" that awesome. hehe
