Things have been slow on this board recently so I decided to post this. What with Abarenoh not being a Zoid, I thought it was better to post in the general discussion. Anyway, this is odd, but given that I've recently seen a thread where someone was worried about the fandom/board dying, I thought I should post anything reasonable (I.E. anything that isn't spam) I could think of, and this was actually all I could think of.
And since I don't think she saw it last time, I guess I should say thanks to Tilly (again) for posting information somewhere that allowed me to find out about Amenbo, since otherwise I wouldn't have been able to find Abarenoh.
The limb test:
The limb test summarises the possibility of something not having the limbs, which I believe began with the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Megazord, which featured a "Triceratops" with tank tracks instead of feet, and a "Pterodactyl" with wings but no legs or anything where the legs should be. Obviously, if something doesn't have its limbs, there isn't much reason to buy it. Needless to say, the components of Abarenoh all have their limbs, otherwise I really wouldn't be posting this.
Contents:
Bakuryuu Tyrannosaurus (Tyranno)
Bakuryuu Triceratops (Kera)
Bakuryuu Pteranodon (Ptera)
Some kind of weird handle thing that attaches to hte back of Kera's head.
Tyranno:
He has articulated shoulder joints and wrist joints. Also, the legs bend at the main leg joint, the knee joint and the angle joint. The legs can also rotate at the main knee joint. The mouth can be opened, and when a switch is pressed it causes his tail to spin around and round... more on that later. Anyways, all he's really lacking is a neck joint, which isn't important since the T-Rex standing position makes it hard for a neck joint to work anyway, and elbow joints, which isn't much of a loss since he arms are really small anyway.
Ptera
She has wing joints that are... as articulated as they could be, I guess... and her neck is articulared in two places. also she has articulated leg joints, but not knee, ankle or tail joint, which isn't much of a loss since her legs and tail aren't very big. Also her mouth doesn't open, but it's worth noting her wings have the Pterosaur 'finger-claws', whereas the Quetzalcoatlus from this series does not.
Kera
He has articulated legs, but only at the knee joint, so really they only bend backwards. Oh, and his mouth opens.
Weird handle thing
Wel...l it works... what other qualities would a handle be expected to have?
Transformation
Transformation is a bit difficult, not that much though. since this is supposed to be a kind of 'soul fusion' of the three dinosaurs, their bodies are used and nothing else is, which leads to two unusual things - firstly, Ptera becomes some kind of helmet some armour for the torso, which, in the TV show, meant a weaker version of Anarenoh could be formed using only Tyranno and Kera, which in turn meant Ptera didn't necessarily have to be distracted from anything of importance that was happening. Secondly, during the transformation, Tyranno's arms become part of the lower torso, positioned right above the legs, which actually prevents the legs from moving at the main joint.
Abarenoh
While this fusion warrior is somewhat humanoid, he still has Tyranno's feet, Tyranno's head attached to his chest (in the series, the Bakuryuu could still think and act individually, and Tyranno could bite giant movster even when fused as part of Abarenoh), Tyranno's tail isthe left arm, and can spin like a drill, which in the series was a technique used to kill giant monsters. Kera becomes the right arm, although the 'hand' is a bit odd... a lever on the back of Kera's head can be used to move the horns, like fingers, with the shorter horn acting as a thumb. However, Kera's mouth can also hold things, so the hand is less like a hand, and more like... two hands, I guess. The armour that Ptera became can be removed and can become a boomerang, which can be held by the horned part of the Kera hand.
In seomthing of a twist that's kind of odd for a fusion of thre living creatures, Tyranno's tail, Kera's tail and Ker'a head can be removed. When Kera's head and Tyranno's tail are removed, two humanoid hands can be exposed. Tyranno's tail and Kera's tail can form a spear/sword, and the handle that attaches to the back of Kera's head allows the head to become a shield. This feature was probably included because most Super Sentai teams don't have help from giant animals, and instead have mecha. Given that Super Sentai has been going since 1975, Toei probably decided a semi-'robotic' quality was needed to help the fans with the transition (well, you know how fans of long-running TV shows are. For the most part they don't want anything different)
Motorised functions
Abarenoh's shoulder joints are motorised, although only the arm formed by Tyranno's tail does anything; there were other Bakuryuu released individually, which can fuse and become alternate arms for Abarenoh. They have their own motorised functions, which is why bother arms are motorised.
Dislikes:
Very little, actually, aside from the leg problem.
I'm guessing some people though having one motorised arm and one arm with a lever is odd, but for some reason it doesn't bother me.
The only other thing that bothers meis not for Abarenoh so much as the show - not only does Ptera not become a vital part of Abarenoh, but she also doesn't contribute a finishing trechnique (there were two finishing techniques, one using Tyranno's tail as a drill, the other using the fusion of Kera's tail and Tyranno's tail as a spear). But, since Ptera is the only female Bakuryuu out of these three, sometimes I wonder, if Kera was female and Ptera was male, would it bother me as much? Since I thought Ptera was a more interesting character than Kera, and I'm guessing if their genders had been switched in the design stages their personnalities would have been, so I guess no, it wouln't bother me as much.
I'm not sure how to end a review, exactly, so I'll make it blatently obvious - this is the end of the review.
