Title: A "strange" dessert?
Description: Curious
Zinou - July 26, 2004 11:34 PM (GMT)
There's this dessert...
I was describing it to someone outside my family, and they found it to be/sound disgusting. I don't think it is, but I wasn't really aware it wasn't a common snack until I asked several people and they gave me WTF looks.
Dessert being? Lime Jello, canned pineapple, walnuts and cottage cheese. All mixed together and set up into something that's always been called "green Jello gunk" (yes, lovely!) around the house. I kid you not. (I wonder if it has a real name? Anyone know?)
Has anyone else ever heard of/eaten this before? It's REALLY good ... as long as you don't kill it with pineapples like my sister/mom likes to. It makes boring ol' Jello not-boring anymore. >p
Zelos - July 26, 2004 11:52 PM (GMT)
Hey! I eat that too! Or at least a variation of it. We just call it Green Fluff, and someitmes it's also made using cherry/strawberry/watermelon (I have no idea which...) Jello too. My mom sometimes puts Marshmellows in instead of Cottage Chesse though, but she does use Walnuts.
And yes, it is great, though I too have goten some wierd looks from family when we've had them over for dinner and I tell them what it is
TheBlackCat - July 27, 2004 12:43 AM (GMT)
No, I have never had this. I hate nuts.
Wolf Kokoro - July 27, 2004 01:10 AM (GMT)
I never heard of or even ate this "dessert" before. I don't like nuts neither.
TheBlackCat - July 27, 2004 01:32 AM (GMT)
Yeah! I thought I was the only person on the planet who didn't like nuts. Its good to know I'm not the only one.
Fire Panzer - July 27, 2004 01:55 AM (GMT)
...And this would be one of the casual conversation topics that I finally end up replying to...
I've never heard of a particular name for it before, but I have seen (and eaten) the same thing before (minus the walnuts).
Bananas seem to be the most common fruit substitute I've encountered, but there are others based on where I've seen it presented. I also recall strawberries used as another fruit substitute.
JammerLea - July 27, 2004 02:00 AM (GMT)
I've heard of/seen stuff like it. But I've never had any, I'm don't really like Jello... or pineapple... or cottage cheese... or walnuts... oops. But I don't think it sounds disgusting.
HooHa_Man - July 27, 2004 02:38 AM (GMT)
I have personally never HEARD of making a mixture like the for dessert until now.
But I have yet to actually taste it, so I refuse to call in bad or good in either sense.
Know what I mean?
Zinou - July 27, 2004 02:39 AM (GMT)
Ok, yay, so the mystery dessert does exist elsewhere. Crisis averted, problem solved. *little sweatdrop*
Sorta. But mmm .. all these variations of it actually sound good ... marshmallows and stuff would be gooood in it. Maybe I should try making some like that. FP, I fear strawberries getting nasty in Jello ... do they? But bananas .. hmm. And Zelos, you say it's good with other flavors of Jello? Should try that too...
I don't know how someone could not like nuts. o.o What about cashews? Peanuts? Almonds ... they're weeping. ;p j/k.
And Jammer, yay. Though with that list of dislikes you probably wouldn't like this stuff at all.. XD
[edit] Blackhole, yhea, most people haven't heard of it. At least who I've asked RL. (Marvel the strange looks.) Yes, I know what you mean, it's like trying to describe the texture of calamari by looking at it .... or something. >.>
And ... I recognize you from FF.net, but have never seen you here. Welcome to ZE and stuff. o.0

"Why thank you *bows* I see my reputation proceeds me..."
*evil smirk*
"As for the dessert, well, it simply depends on YOU, and YOUR opinion, right?"
*looks around*
"...You know, no offense or anything, but for how many people you have logged on at once, this place is decently slow."
Zinou - July 27, 2004 03:20 AM (GMT)
Pshreh, it's not normally so slow. Everyone's just getting over the trauma of the board being uprooted again, methinks.

*snorts*
'Again' eh? Well that's got to be annoying...I'm assuming this is the second time?
*looks around*
"...I wonder if anyone else recognises me..."
TheBlackCat - July 27, 2004 03:26 AM (GMT)
More like the sixth, I hear.
Zinou - July 27, 2004 03:36 AM (GMT)
Yes, 5th or 6th I think? I've been around since the original forum on Proboards...
But, Blackhole, don't let that scare you away. This is a disturbingly hardy community. :P

*laughs*
Trust me, I originated my RPing from GFAQS.com
*grins*
That's gotta be the biggest forum on the internet, and with that, it's also the biggest hand out for Flamers and Trolls.
*smirks*
I've probably been through atleast five Troll attacks, on the boards I've been to.
Zelos - July 27, 2004 03:53 AM (GMT)
Hah, don't worry. Five of those six restarts were under the influence of Duerotycoon (whether direct or indirect, it was HIS servers that caused three of those five, so I don't blame him) who no longer hosts the boards. The previous restart was caused by a hacker deleting all the forums. And we would have had to start over again if DT hadn't hacked Invision or my accoutn or something and recovered my password which had been hacked on here two days ago... I've changed it to a much harder one though, so no worries.

Does it count if you're allergic to nuts? I mean, it's probably because I'm allergic to them that I don't like them, but then some people like things they're allergic to.
Tilly - July 27, 2004 12:05 PM (GMT)
I don't like nuts much either...unless they're in chocolate, in which case they're sometimes good...
Shadow Tigress - July 27, 2004 03:17 PM (GMT)
The lime jello and canned pineapple sounds good, I'll eat that at least. The walnuts...mmm, not much into them but if dripped in chocolate, it could be worth a shot. Can't stand cottage cheese, btw...
SeraPhoenix - July 28, 2004 01:38 AM (GMT)
I love nuts, cashews are my favorite. As for the desert, I've never heard of it but I had this one strawberry jello desert that was really good. One layer was cool whip, then the jello with nuts and then a lemon tasting cake that I can't think of the name of. I think there might've been something else but I can't remember.

On the question of strawberries getting nasty in jello, I have no idea.
As far as variations of jello, I've seen many different combos of fruit-in-jello-mold before. The cottage cheese addition was unique to the lime-flavored jello, though. When I tasted it, they went well together. I would assume the reason why I never saw it with other flavors is that it doesn't go together with them as well.
The Zombie - July 28, 2004 11:32 AM (GMT)
That stuff? My Grandma makes it all of the time. It's good as long as there isn't too much pine-apple... :P

Not really. It's hard to know your allergic to something without trying, and if tried at an early age, the body tends to automatically "not like" things that came with disagreeable sensations attached.
