Title: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Wolf Kokoro - July 27, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
*repeats* What do you want to be when you grow up? Personally I want to be an Actress or a Singer. If performing for people doesn't work out for me,the other thing I'll be is a animal trainer.

Kirbymaster212 - July 27, 2004 06:45 PM (GMT)
I would like to either be a Paleontologist, or Herpetologist, or Entomologist, or Icthyologist. A paleontologist is a scientist that digs up/studies dinosaurs. A herpetologist studies reptiles. An entomologist studies insects, and an icthyologist studies fish. I would actually like to be them all. If none of those work out I would like to make/test video games.

JammerLea - July 27, 2004 06:58 PM (GMT)
I am working towards becoming an illustrator. I would most enjoy to illustrate comic books if possible. Whether that'll provide a good income is another story! ^^;;

König Warrior - July 27, 2004 10:36 PM (GMT)
Currently I'm looking towards a line in AeroSpace Engineering. AeroSpace Engineers for those who are unsure design and build air and spacecraft. I know this is something I'd like because designs of aircraft and a lot of spacecraft from Sci-fi shows have always interested me.

The Zombie - July 28, 2004 01:15 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm already grown up but I would really like to be a fighter pilot. Unfortunately my eyes keep me from doig so... :(

Breaking into the showbusiness can be pretty hard unless you know some people who can get your foot in the door and contrary to what most people think, you don't actually make tons of money unless you are a famous celebrity. I used to act and model but I was never too outgoing and I never really liked the frequent trips into NYC so I stopped but my sister is a musical theatre major so she plans to make it her career too.

I plan on owning my own barn and being a horse trainer and breeder. If I can find the patience for children I might also do some instructing.

An illustrator? Nice. I'm going to go to college for Digital Media and Design. Neat eh?

I'm currently studying biomedical engineering in university, since I want to do that. A biomedical engeer is someone who applies engineering principles to solve problems in medice and biology. Basically, they design all the machines and equipment used in medicine and study the human body from a engineering standpoint. I am looking specifically at neurosensory engineering (probably with a focus on the eye or ear), biomaterials, imaging, and prosthetics (from a neurosensory or biomaterials point of view). I need to pick one of those in the next few months so I can figure out where to go to for my PhD.

Vega - July 28, 2004 02:00 AM (GMT)
I'm working at becomeing a structural engineer...what I have always wanted to do was design my own rollor coaster. I've always been a bit of a thrill seeker.

If that doesn't work out my second choice would be a History teacher because I am fairly good with kids and History is one of my favorite subjects

If that also doesn't work I could also go into Law Enforcement...my mom's whole family was New York City police officers.

I know it's going to be hard to become a celebrity, but I believe that God will help me step up into the bright lights. I'm already doing piano lessons to get started on music.

But,if not show biz, maybe I'll just be an animal trainer. Depends on what God wants me to do. Oh,sorry, for saying his name here! *anime sweatdrop* I'll shut up now....

Kirbymaster212 - July 28, 2004 02:17 AM (GMT)
Vega, get Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. lol, I have it and build all the roller coasters I want :P

You should probably also join any community theatres near you too. The more you have on your resume, the better it looks^^

Himawari - July 28, 2004 05:19 AM (GMT)
I want to work in the Entertainment/Music Industry.

I've always wanted to work in the Japanese Entertainment or Music Industry.. I think that would be awesome..

Zinou - July 28, 2004 05:33 AM (GMT)
....I want to be a movie director. Or CG animator. Or storyboard artist. Or novelist. Or screenplay-writer. Something, anything like that. XD I'm going for an art major in college ... but ... bleh.

I am grown up ... 21 in two months, here. >_>;

Capitila - July 28, 2004 05:46 AM (GMT)
Gah, all we've been doing at school recently is picking subjects for my last two years at high school that would look good on our University Admission Index. My main subjects are Math, Physics, Software Design and Development, Engineering Studies and advanced english. These should get me into a university course to get a bachelors degree for computer science, majoring in programming. With that I would get into some multi-media programming, which is animating, 3d modelling and stuff.
It's really hard though, and If my plans don't work out I will look at something else in the computing industry.

None of the courses I'm taking next year have anything to do with horses. Three of them are art classes and then i have physics, advanced math, english, and gym. Although I suppose you could possibly apply physics to horses and decide which way you might get thrown off the horse

Laerza - July 28, 2004 08:58 AM (GMT)
Teaching.Education. I think i will make it.If not a abstract/graffiti artist. My teacher said i was good at it. But that was during punishment,i was caught..

HooHa_Man - July 28, 2004 11:19 PM (GMT)
I want to be a Neonucleardeconstructavist!

*pauses*

...But my mom won't let me... <_<

Sir Maverick - July 29, 2004 02:52 AM (GMT)
*raises eyebrow at blackchaos13* Right....

I don't know what I want to do, but I'm considering building weapons systems for the military....Or maybe bomb squad....and then there's the linguist position that sounds cool....and....OH, I'm really not sure.

HaTcH - July 29, 2004 03:38 AM (GMT)
Ohh what to do! I'm planning on being a Software Engineer, perhaps write database apps and stuff.

Something with computers, oher than owning a computer repair shop...

FoxofNight - July 29, 2004 06:02 AM (GMT)
*raises hand* I wanna be taller and a complete weirdo when I grow up! ^___^

On a more serious note, right now, I'm not really sure. Something involving the arts, like a drama or a band teacher, or maybe a voice actor. The addition of video games would be a plus, though, like a concept artist on a development team or something. Maybe even work for a gaming magazine or something.

One thing I do know for sure is that I want to be a crazy aunt. That way, the lil' rascals wouldn't be my full responsibility, but I'd still get to spoil them rotten and take them to all these weird things. Yeah...corrupt the kids...hehehe...

TheBlackCat - July 30, 2004 12:52 AM (GMT)
Its great to see there are some other engineers in here besides me. Makes me happy to know there are some other crazies around. :D You have to be a little bit insane to make it as an engineer (or perhaps more than little).

I know what your saying man.. luckily everyone tells me I'm quite weird, which sometimes I try to be. However I am often very cynical too.

TheBlackCat - July 30, 2004 01:02 AM (GMT)
Ditto here. One of my high school professors called me "Odd Todd" (Todd is my real name, BTW). Coming from him that was a compliment. And I have him to thank for my cynicism, too.

König Warrior - July 30, 2004 01:03 AM (GMT)
I got my cynicism a while ago, but my most recent Algebra teacher was someone you could look to to provide good cynicism.

My father's a civil engineer, but I wouldn't really say that he's insane...he just makes the people around him go insane  He hates spending a penny and he can really get on your nerves by always solving anything that involves complicated math out loud...and he also expects you to be able to follow the problem that he's solving when it's the middle of the summer and you're brain dead <_<

Mine too....But I can usually follow....

JammerLea - July 30, 2004 02:51 AM (GMT)
XD There're engineers in my family, but I don't see 'em often. My dad works at a nuclear power plant. Once I called him about how to put "thermodynamics" in a sentence for my friend for a class. He asked me, "which equation do you want?" =_=;; He's SO smart though and I can actually follow him when he explain how the power plant and everything works.

You know, now whenever I look at this topic, I have to say....

I don't want to grow, because if I did, I couldn't be a Toys R Us kid. XD

König Warrior - July 30, 2004 03:41 AM (GMT)
Lol, don't we all Jammer?

As for the Engineers and the smartness, yeah, it's all true, and I'll probably be one of those people who can do all that stuff with the complex math. Ever since I mentioned I'd like to be an Aerospace Engineer, my mom decided she would let me make it through high school without taking Calculus.

However it is something I should take for a career like that. I would like to be an Aerospace engineer and I stated why before, so you get my point.

BIGPHISHOWNSYOU - July 31, 2004 01:07 AM (GMT)
I wanna be the next william hung!

No, I wanna be a pilot or a small local restaurant owner with my brother.
I have it all planned out too. When Im old enough I sign up for the air force and take college while im on duty. Then when im done with that, I can Retire from it and become a commercial airplane pilot within a week or two after retiring. (Its very easy to become a commercial pilot after piloting an aircraft, except helis, in teh military)

Shadow Tigress - July 31, 2004 01:55 AM (GMT)
I remember when I was a little girl, I wanted to grow up and be like my dad when it came to his job, he worked on AF jets as a military officer. When I got older, I realized the military was not for me and decided to remain a civilian instead, lol. My bro followed in dad's footsteps and joined the military when he became of age...no big surprise there.

Well, I'm already grown up but sometimes, I do wish that I could become a kid again...no bills, no responsibilities. Ah, that was the life...

*thinks about the school yard bullies she had to deal with while growing up*

On second thought, never mind...

SeraPhoenix - July 31, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
I used to want to join the AF too. My grandfather used to be a tailgunner during WWII and I always wanted to fly a plane, but like ST, I eventually realized that it wasn't for me either. I also wanted to be a scientist, a teacher, a dancer, actress, animal trainer, stunt double, and artist but now I'm pretty sure that I'll stick with the equine business.

TheBlackCat - July 31, 2004 03:43 AM (GMT)
You must, absolutely must be able to do calculus as an engineer. You have no idea how central calulculus is to any engineering. Both mechanical and electrical require a thorough knowledge of calculus. I can't remember the last course, besides chemistry, economics, and english, that did not require calculus of some sort. I can't emphasize enough how critical it will be for any engineering degree. I honestly can't do basic calculus anymore, I am too dependent on my TI-89 like many of my classmates, but I still need an understanding in order to run the calculations. And my 89 can't do complex calculus.

JammerLea - July 31, 2004 03:49 AM (GMT)
T-89??? They're that far now?? x_x I have a T-82!

I'm still baffled at my highest score on MEAP test being in Math. x_x It's kind of creepy. XD

TheBlackCat - July 31, 2004 03:57 AM (GMT)
I've been using an 89 for about 5 or 6 years now. Thanks to that calculator, I can no longer do basic algebra or calulculus (don't even mention arithmatic), and many of my classmates are in the same boat. My 5-year-old 89 failed just before a test last semester and I had to rush out and buy a new one or I would have bombed the test (and every other test I had after) :( It is extremely powerful and helps a lot but it has its price (i.e. you forget basic math because it does it all for you, and does it better than you ever can).

Wait..your asian right..?

What mILitary? Im obsessed with WWII stuff..Oh yeah, know what plane lol?

SeraPhoenix - July 31, 2004 05:42 AM (GMT)
Yes, I am asian, Korean to be more exact. But I was adopted and have lived in the US since I was five months old...so my grandfather was in the USAF. I'm not sure what plane it was but I could find out tomorrow...err, today when he wakes up. All I know is that he was a tailgunner and he got a purple heart because of some explosion that melted the change in his pockets.

König Warrior - July 31, 2004 06:17 AM (GMT)
Oh don't think I was underestimating the need to know calculus for engineering, I understand, the way I worded it may have made it seems like I didn't.. either way, I'm gonig that way.
