Title: Is it worth it?
Description: xbox 360
Glitch2000 - January 9, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
For all you xbox 360 or Halo owners.
Is it worth it?
I've been thinking of buying one, not sure if I'll try for a new or used one if I do decide to get one.
There are some problems though of course.
The TV that I usually use for game systems and such already has my Wii and ps2 hooked up to it, and unhooking either one of those would both be difficult and annoying. I use the wii frequently, and the ps2 is my DVD played for the TV.
I could hook it up to the main big screen TV, but my dad usually watches TV in that room. However, it might not be much of a problem.
Also, I may not have time to play it much because of school work and all that jazz.
So I don't know what to do....
Opinions please?
Are the games for the console worth it?
How about the online play.
Berzerker_templar - January 9, 2008 01:57 PM (GMT)
to solve the unplugging problem just go out and get one of those things that allows you to plug in mutiple AV cables.
the 360 is a good buy and its online service is quite good (friends list, marketplace, game library, ect.). the games have achivements which gets you addicted to it (achivements don't do anything except give you bragging rights).
as for games, don't just get it for halo 3, get if for games that you can't get on either Wii or PS2 (like the newer gundam games that are a lot better than previous ones, AC4 if you like fast paced mech battles, and of coarse shooters like H3 or COD4). it really just depends on what you like but can't get on the others. there is also something called the Xbox Live Arcade which have some classic or new games (like Bomberman, Arkadian Warriors, Hexic HD) the only problem I have w/ the arcade is THERE ISN'T KILLER INSTINCT! I loved that game :( . you can also get some Xbox Orignal games now like Halo, Fable, and so on; the only problem with them is that they didn't change anything about them (Halo is still the same as it was on the Xbox and Fable doesn't have the bonus content or anything new added.
the downsides to Xbox 360. Its made by microsoft so something is bound to make it act up, like the dreaded Red Ring O' Death (windows has a blue screen 360 has a red ring... go figure). latly I've, and a few friends, have experienced bad connections, we tend to blame this on the last big update b/c it only started happening since then.
The 360 is a really good investment, its more affordable than a PS3 and has some of the same games or (in some cases) better games, and I've heard that Xbox Live is a lot better than the PS3's PSN (i'm not sure I don't have a PS3 and care to get one).
Glitch2000 - January 10, 2008 01:31 AM (GMT)
Hmm, okay, great.
I know of other games I would like to get besides Halo 3 of course.
I have another question though. Can it play DVD's? If it does, then if I get one, I will probably unhook my ps2 and replace the xbox 360 with it, moving the ps2 into the office that has a small TV.
What causes the xbox 360 to act up?
And I hear it has a warranty, will this cover it if it does act up on me?
I'm pretty excited for the headset stuff with the online play. The only problem is that I believe I will need to buy a separate thing to use my wireless internet.
Berzerker_templar - January 11, 2008 01:09 AM (GMT)
It can play Dvds (after all it uses a DVD drive).
I'm not really sure what causes it to act up, from what i've heard from a friend of mine (who has had it happen to him three times I think) is that the power when out while he was playing it and it got the ring, and it could also be due to how warm it gets (it doesn't seem to have a good cooling fan. The Red Ring has never happened to me and I hope it doesn't.
Im not sure about the warranty, so i can't help you there.
there is a wireless network adapter thing you can get for the 360 but it will cost a pretty penny (like about 10,000 pretty pennies).
Glitch2000 - January 11, 2008 04:46 AM (GMT)
Damnit.....
Well, I guess the wireless internet thing turned me off or something, lol.
I don't want to spend that much for it...
The internet feature with a crap load of the games was one of the main reasons why I was considering getting it.
Berzerker_templar - January 11, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
is there anyway that you can use a network cable? if you can then you could use that untill you get the Wireless network adaptor.
Glitch2000 - January 11, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
I would have to have a wire going through the office, through the kitchen, and then across the hallway to the TV in the living room...
XD
So nope, lol
It would just be too difficult.
Wandrian Wvlf - January 12, 2008 09:31 PM (GMT)
I suggest trading in everything you have that's PS2-related for store credit and getting it all, wireless networking adapter included. Here's some noteworthy titles:
Dead Rising(zero multiplayer though :/)
Armored Core 4
The Orange Box(only Team Fortress 2 has multiplayer, but it rocks)
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam(no significant online features, sadly though)
Dynasty Warriors 6(February, and I already know it rocks :P)
Dead or Alive 4(if you can look past the plentiful boobage, it's a good game)
Bomberman Live
The red ring of death is a hardware failure. If you ever get it, you can just send it to Microsoft and they'll fix it for free(sans postage). Every 360 is under warranty since it hit epidemic levels apparently, but it would seem an intercooler(or just not playing it for days on end) prevents the problems.
I suggest going with the premium pack, it's probably the best value of the three packs and there's no arguing with a hard drive(twenty gigs)...Especially if you love playing music and games at the same time, or downloading stuff from marketplace.
XBL is bordering on the ridiculous for how much it includes, most of which I don't care for. There's two levels of it, silver and gold. Silver is free but you can't play absolutely any game online whenever you want...you need to wait until a day you *CAN* play a game for free(Monday's also ladies night so you may want to look into that)...But I'd suggest just forking over the $5 a month for the whole enchilada, you won't regret it. Also, the available online features vary from game-to-game, even though *ALL* 360 games have some sort of online feature(even Dead Rising which merely has leaderboards for it's survival mode :/).
The marketplace is a large part of XBL. Throw your money at Microsoft(even right there through your 360...seriously X_X) in exchange for MS points, which you use for stuff...Avatars, dashboard themes, videos(trailers, shows, movies, music videos, and other stuff you'd rather have on a DVD or some sort of transferrable file format) and the odd game add-on.
Glitch2000 - January 13, 2008 06:28 AM (GMT)
Hmm, trading in the ps2. Never though of that. Dunno if I will though...
I have some games for it that I'm still in love with, and just got Ico for it and working on it. Maybe I could try and sell some games or something. But I feel like I still wouldn't get enough for just the internet adaptor.
But that's a really good idea....
And you listed some good info about the stuff too, thanks. :]
Maybe I haven't lost hope, haha. I'm gonna sort through my games to sell sometime soon. I can sell my ps1, but I'll probably just get $10 at the most for it, lol. *shrug*
Thank you so much though. :]
Oh, one more question. How do you get music onto the xbox 360?
Wandrian Wvlf - January 13, 2008 01:57 PM (GMT)
Putting music on your 360 more or less requires a hard drive, as a teensy little memory card(which come in 50&250 meg varietis, IIRC) simply won't hold enough to be worth the investment.
All you have to do is pop in a CD and when the media player opens up, select the Rip CD option to add it to your 360's hard drive. If it's a release by a major record label, your system will also more than likely recognize it and even label the tracks what they are for you...Unless you're ripping an obscure album or something released after the last system update. You can also edit information about songs and albums, such as their names and who released them. I'm guessing that no one(or not many people) knows how to transfer things off of a 360's hard drive, so no music companies have been pissing and moaning about that.
Playing the music is just about as easy(unless you have hundreds of songs in which case how you sort them will affect how easy it is to get *TO* the specific music you want). You just press the guide button(the silver one with the rings of light and green X on it in the middle of the controllers), then go to Select Music. Then you've got your options of play all(delays of about 2-5 seconds *WILL* occur between songs if you have say ten gigs of music present); or search/play artist, album, individual song, or playlists.
Oh yeah. If you do end up getting the premium pack, the hard drive comes preloaded with a few songs(of varying styles and quality), some videos related to the 360, and an arcade game called Hexic HD(puzzler).
Emophia - January 13, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
Even though I'm a PS3 owner, I'd say a 360 is worth it to your average gamer... Go for it...
It just wasn't for me, since I import all my consoles and games... And that failure rate combined with the region locking just wasn't worth it for me...
That, and I found a PS3 60gig at the same price...
Glitch2000 - January 14, 2008 04:37 AM (GMT)
Sweet, wow. Thank you so much guys...
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna try and get this thing now.
I just need to save up a bit and sell some of my old game boy stuff or something.
Also my dad doubled my allowance for no apparent reason, so that will help crap loads. :]
I've already got all the money I need for it, but I still just want to save up extra from what I normally get for it for some reason.
Thank you so much though you guys.
I'll let you know when/if I actually get one so I can hopefully play you guys or something.
Glitch2000 - January 14, 2008 08:29 AM (GMT)
Sorry for double posting.
But hey, Wandrian Wvlf, is this the premium pack you recommended?
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Premium-Gold-Vi...00299195&sr=8-8I'm not sure which one you're talking about.

Glitch2000 - January 14, 2008 06:26 PM (GMT)
Gah! So expensive.... but okay.
Thank you again.
Wandrian Wvlf - January 16, 2008 12:37 AM (GMT)
Expensive? Yes. Souls go for a surprisingly high amount of currency these days, though...
Papaya's correct about the battery packs. It's worthless just using the controllers with batteries as they don't last very long at all. If you feel like going all the way, you could just buy two battery packs to minimize interruptions to your new addiction.
Glitch2000 - January 16, 2008 01:48 AM (GMT)
Hmm, okay. I'll probably buy just 1 unless I can get a good deal on 2 on ebay or something.
Just to save some more money or something. And if I find that I'll need a second, then I'll get it.
I'm excited. I can't believe I'm actually gonna try and get one. Bwahahaha.
I still need to wait quite a bit. First to sell my crap. Second to save up more money. And third, to try and find the best deal out there or something.
*wiggles in seat* :D
Hooray for violent games that I am deprived of.
AlphaZoid - February 28, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
Oh, it's worth it.
I ADORE my 360
ADORE!!!!
man so much has happened since i've been here...i suck! ;_;
Tigerhawk71 - February 29, 2008 01:21 PM (GMT)
yeah. i heart my 360.. all i need to do now is get this cabin wired up.. the damn crappy wireless i have in here makes it hard to play most games online - and downright impossible to play others... infact i'm basically limited to guitar hero online. Halo, gears of war, AC4, anything else at the moment is a waste of time.
Mr Konigbreaker Head - March 1, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
I love my 360, but when my last girlfriend and I split, she took it from me. (She DID buy it, along with a 32' flatscreen, but they were gifts for me. :/ ) So now I can only play when I go hang out at her house, and she has no interwebs, so no LIVE for me until I find a way to get the 360 back to my dorm.

BREACHED.
I owe Wvlf a few AC4 matches but i need to sort my connection out first.
I owe Konig some Halo 3 matches but same problem... that and he's pov so he needs to get his own 360.
I can't remember who else, but i'm supposed to be fighting some other people on some stuff. If anyone has GH3 i'll give them a game sometime too... when we get a new guitar. The yellow and red fret on the one we have keeps dropping out which is very not cool when you play online.

Glitch2000 - March 5, 2008 04:17 AM (GMT)
Wii broke. Need to fix that before chasing after the 360 idea again, haha.
But I'll be getting one for the summer if everything goes planned.
And that's a big picture of an asian chick.

the xbox 360 hard drives are removeable. you're crafty, young and thats all you need to set up a drive to look like the one she has then switch them over sometime and play dumb.

I would rather skip that hassle and just get my 360 back.
